I wish you could have joint thread starters! Gloria and I will be hosting this years snow watch and tag teaming with amateur weather forecasts. When reading them, please bear in mind that we are both amateurs with busy day to day lives, but we will do our best.

Please remember snow is notoriously difficult to forecast in this country as it often falls under marginal conditions.
When a forecast matters please do check with the Met Office first.

After a taste of winter already for some in the east, this mornings GFS model sticks with the winter weather theme we’ve been noticing for a few days for late Thurs 7th onwards, with a significant low pressure looking to bring in some cold and potentially rather snowy weather. Indeed, there is the potential for this to be accompanied by some very strong winds.

At the moment GFS plays around with the exact location of this low pressure, so it is too early to say where any snow may hit, but most places away from the far west seem to be in the potential firing line at the moment.

If some of the charts come off, the weather could be quite disruptive next weekend.

Snow shield fully operational. Envy

brizzledrizzle · 16/01/2018 12:39

57% risk here, I'll believe it when I see it.

GloriaSmud · 16/01/2018 16:54

OYBBK 80% chance? So it'll be a winter wonderland for you tomorrow then?!

The 'little something of a snowy nature' still showing on netweather's precipitation charts for Sunday.

It's hilarious Gloria, as I don't think we will get any showers of any nature tomorrow.

at the moment we have rain with big wet snow flakes mixed in, which doesn't seem to be quite the same as sleet I reckon. It's revolting.

Big wet flakes falling fast in Dublin, but ground too wet and warm for it to stick. Glad I'm heading home 😀❄️

GloriaSmud · 16/01/2018 17:35

Lots of snow showers showing up here. I'm expecting snow/wintry stuff for us later ~ netweather have given us a 90% chance of it so it must be true! Hmm

SinceWhenDid · 16/01/2018 19:08

95 percent chance of snow here.

notsomanky · 16/01/2018 19:45

Ahem.

Two words.

Thunder Snow. 😀

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2018 20:18

Omg Manky how bad was the thunder and lightning??? Lots of people round here complaining of losing power and lights flickering, very unusual weather indeed!!

GloriaSmud · 16/01/2018 21:14

Just adding the weather warnings again ~ the metoffice have moved the snow and ice one for England eastwards a bit (which means that Leicester's now covered by it as well now!)

notsomanky · 16/01/2018 21:15

leesmum it is incredible. We have had snow wth thunder then rain. Now it is snowing again and we have had more thunder snow. The last thunderclap was so loud the cat has taken refuge under the bed. Not got snow lying at the moment as everytime it settles it rains

notsomanky · 16/01/2018 21:25

Now we are having a hail storm. The bedroom window is slightly open so some of the hail has come in and gone on the floor. The cat has ventured out from under the bed and is chasing the hail across the carpet.

The trampoline has moved a foot across the garden and we now have a dusting of white on the ground.probably mostly hail now!

fortyfourfeasts · 16/01/2018 21:28

Gloria, we're just up from you, in Nottingham but met office keep changing their mind. Are we likely to get any snow?!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2018 21:30

the south is mostly covered as well now. I feel that me and the met office are having a bit of a disagreement here Grin I'm just not convinced the showers are going to make it that far inland across the south.

But.... they have the data and I have a few pics on my ipad, so I expect they are likely to win this one.

I have heard of snow settled on high ground in inland Hampshire tonight. We are lower and had a lot around 5.15 but it didn't settle.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2018 21:37

I think that was probably it though WhoKnows, I don't understand as that warning was issued after that precip went through central areas.

Thunder snow here earlier. Kids sent home from school at lunch time. Late start for them tomorrow. Husband stuck a few villages along for a couple of hours after work Grin

'Mon the snow!

Perihelion · 16/01/2018 22:25

Just started snowing for the 3rd time today. Only realised there was snow at tea time, as DD's pal called round for a snowball fight. Have got used to playing in the snow in the dark, for the past few years, as it's been gone in the morning.

Almost blizzard like now GrinGrinGrin (Am ignoring all logistic concerning getting to work/school etc tomorrow )

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 16/01/2018 23:00

I'm quite jealous !!!
