I wish you could have joint thread starters! Gloria and I will be hosting this years snow watch and tag teaming with amateur weather forecasts. When reading them, please bear in mind that we are both amateurs with busy day to day lives, but we will do our best.

Please remember snow is notoriously difficult to forecast in this country as it often falls under marginal conditions.
When a forecast matters please do check with the Met Office first.

After a taste of winter already for some in the east, this mornings GFS model sticks with the winter weather theme we’ve been noticing for a few days for late Thurs 7th onwards, with a significant low pressure looking to bring in some cold and potentially rather snowy weather. Indeed, there is the potential for this to be accompanied by some very strong winds.

At the moment GFS plays around with the exact location of this low pressure, so it is too early to say where any snow may hit, but most places away from the far west seem to be in the potential firing line at the moment.

If some of the charts come off, the weather could be quite disruptive next weekend.

OYBBK and Gloria, I've just moved to the south shropshire hills near ludlow. I am 350m up the hill... please tell me I'm getting some snow?

oybbk glad it is just a full brain.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow, Lee!
A little something in the way of netweather's precipitation-type chart for tomorrow.
(lubey ~ didn't you used to live over Leicester way?)

Gloria yes that's right. I was near Hinckley. Still crossing everything. I like the look of that chart... I love snow and have a ton of supplies in as I'm all hunkered down and decorating madly. A snowy view and snowy walk would make my year so far Grin

Sorry for the multi post, app kept telling me it failed to post

GloriaSmud · 15/01/2018 19:54

MN seems to have 'gone a bit weird' ~ I've just looked on other threads and there are a lot of 'repeated posts' about like yours, lubey, so I think others had the same problem! (Ah, I thought you used to be over that way. Sounds like you're all set if something of a snowy nature arrives!)

It's a bit early yet but the latest GFS showed up this for Sunday as well, moving from west to east.

SinceWhenDid · 16/01/2018 06:58

We have a light covering but not much.

brizzledrizzle · 16/01/2018 07:01

Thanks I hope you are ok and in good health OYBBK.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2018 07:21

That's really kind of you brizzle, thank you! Smile

By this evening, I'm expecting the snow boundary to be around the Oxford ish area, with snow also possible over high ground in the SW. Elsewhere across the south, the occasional sleet or snow shower is possible.

Thanks oybbk - I am well within the met office warning area and on very high ground so I remain hopeful. Good to see on the other thread that the storm may be less severe than expected, its been blowing an absolute hoolie on this hill the last day or so, that getting much worse would be a concerning thought.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2018 11:38

some amber snow warnings out now

UKMO have just put us in the yellow area - just South if Gatwick!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2018 11:48

oh yes :)

I think there will be some disappointed people in the south over lower ground, the showers are going to be a bit of a mix.
