Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

Outskirts of north London. Raining heavily and decidedly chilly but snow doesn't look imminent at all.

perhapstomorrow · 12/01/2017 16:45

oooo lovely big fat snowflakes.....(goes off doing a snow dance!!)

bananaskin123 · 12/01/2017 16:46

Hertfordshire. Heavy rain for a few hours now a few snowflakes. Maybe the 5.00 pm prediction is going to be right.

RigbySM · 12/01/2017 16:46

North Essex

Still chucking it down

Exercisejunkieforlife · 12/01/2017 16:47

It's been raining here, just outside Portsmouth all day but now turning to snow.

I'm meant to be going to work for 6 but the last time something like this happened everyone got snowed in on the a3 and I Do NOT want to go to work and not be able to get home 😩. I just don't know what to do for the best x

NigellasGuest · 12/01/2017 16:48

It's sleeting!! Was only normal drizzle 20 mins ago.
FizzyWizard I'm about 40 miles north of you

uncoolnn · 12/01/2017 16:48

I work in Staffordshire and it was snowing but not settling when I left work!
Now back home in north Cheshire and no sign of snow, just more bloody rain Sad

basketofironing · 12/01/2017 16:49

Very speedy update to that last post, lots of sleet now here in Brentwood. No idea of the temp as I'm sat indoors with a fire burning and have no intention of going out, except to fetch a couple more logs. No wind at all so the squally front hasn't hit us yet.

Oh well even if it does snow in london and south East it's to wethe to settle anyway.

ghostspirit · 12/01/2017 16:51

Meant to say it won't settle

basketofironing · 12/01/2017 16:51

Bloody thing, sorry for the multiple posts. Whilst that was failing, the sleet has turned to snow!!! Still light and too wet to settle though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 16:51

Quick update. The wind is properly howling and we have proper snow! Yay!

PinkBunnyOnesieOnOrder · 12/01/2017 16:55

Up in Chineham now (near Basingstoke). It's starting to settle ☃️

PseudoBadger · 12/01/2017 16:55

Snow in north London now

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 16:55

I'd expect nothing less for you OYBBK !!! Sleet in Bucks since 3pm. Dark now so not sure if snowing. Miserable though, roads were awash (didn't realise it had been raining quite so much). Like others, I'm not looking forward to an icy drive to school in the morning, particularly as the first diddy bit of road - newly resurfaced - has warning triangles on it for ice and snow - guess people have complained about it being dodgy. Oh dear

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 16:56

Yay Flumpalot! Wind still calm here which means that we havent reached our squally bit.

Happy days!!

We had 12mm of rain before the snow started clogging my rain gauge, which is a lot for one afternoon.
