...Anyone else's heart sink at heatwaves?!

Agh! Just looked at the weather app and next week looks like hell! On Tuesday, when we have a big event and I'll be running everywhere and driving for hours, it'll be over 30 Confused

Every bloody heatwave I get sick, moody, and then also don't sleep for weeks. Every time! No idea why. I dread them

... Are there any fellow heat-haters about on Mumsnet who fancy a whine? may well just be me

Lots of water today everyone. God I'm tired!

U2, poor things, can you wrap ice packs in tea towels for them or something? that's probably obvious sorry

The ferrets not the patients that is. Although that would work too.

I find the heat hard to cope with and have a portable air con machine at home which helps me to survive. It's a pain to store most of the year but a life saver when it's really hot.
I'm also a fan of those aerosol water sprays when out and about combined with a fan Smile

Snog · 19/07/2016 08:34

And for anyone who suffers from chub rub, forget wearing cycling shorts under dresses or special underwear, just get yourself the life changing product Bodyglide, originally designed to stop nipple friction for runners. It's a stick formation that you can use on your inner thighs and it has silicon in it so hey presto no friction. Bliss.

As for working in places with no aircon, ime even in what are usually smart environments, smartness goes out the window when it's hot. I wear loose cotton dresses in dark colours with gold sandals.

cosmicglittergirl · 19/07/2016 08:36

It has definitely been muggy for ages here in London. Perhaps I notice it more as I'm outside a lot with the kids.

Roussette · 19/07/2016 09:11

It's the humidity that's the problem Honestly? I would call the Middle East and Asia humid, not here!

As a heat lover my top tips are... create a through breeze with windows/doors open. If you can even open your front and back door, it will make a huge difference to the heat in your house. Close blinds on rooms where the sun is. Loose natural fibre clothes.

This thread will last longer than the "heatwave", BBC news has said it's breaking tomorrow night, one more tea in the garden tonight and that's it!

My family and I went to Vegas a few years ago. We did sightseeing and lounging by the pool on alternate days. While they were enjoying the sun by the pool I was shaded in our rented cabana with air-con, a book and chilled drinks. I arrived home as pale as I left. That was fine by me.

I'm blonde with freckly pale skin - I burn easily and loathe the heat at the best of times. I hate being sweaty and love a cool breeze. Cannot stand humidity. I get irritable, tired and itchy when I'm too hot.

I'm almost 13 wks pg so I'm extra cranky atm Hmm

Lorelei76 · 19/07/2016 10:49

Rousette - I see you're taking the 4 Yorkshireman route.

Does anyone know if age changes how you cope with heat? My mum comes from a hot country but she can't stand it now anyway - she doesn't go back there so it doesn't matter.

I used to like it but now don't, obvs the commute and office don't help but I managed much better in my 20s.

there's a couple of neighbours who are absolutely losing their minds in this very hot building. When I originally saw new builds advertised with air con I was surprised but now I realise it's because a lot of new builds are so well insulated, it becomes necessary in summer. My flat gets really hot from 20c up so temps like this are quite surreal.

Lorelei76 · 19/07/2016 10:51

OP I hope your day is okay with all the ferrying about. sorry I probably missed you - I take 2 camping bottles filled with water, stick in the freezer, then keep them with me on my commute, stuffed up my top if necessary. Yes it looks mad but I have had people look at me jealously - and you're in a car so no one will care anyway.

mogloveseggs · 19/07/2016 10:52

We have no water! Been off sine I got up and they don't know what the problem is yet. Doubly hot and grumpy now

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 19/07/2016 10:54

I'm

Melting.
Haven't slept all night.

Lorelei76 · 19/07/2016 11:03

oh mog! What a mare.

Chardonnay, I took one of my precious pills. (I'm at work, yes, I know I shouldn't be posting!)

Maybebabybee · 19/07/2016 11:07

Oh bog off delatron, let us moan in peace.

I have migraines triggered by heat. So ill moan all I like.

I agree it's been muggy for months, in London anyway. And we didn't have a decent winter either, it was about 13c and rainy the whole time.

I love the sun. Give me a nice 3c sunny winters' day over this manky sweat fest any day.

Roussette · 19/07/2016 11:08

Lorelei not sure what the "4 yorkshiremen" route with added eyeroll is but hey ho... if it's about reminiscing, yep I'll own that!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 19/07/2016 11:10

London can be muggy at all temps.

My trains today were like saunas on wheels.

Maybebabybee · 19/07/2016 11:12

Also spare a thought to those of us with no garden to sit outside eating dinner in.

Ghodavies · 19/07/2016 11:13

Since I've had my long term illness I do t cope well with heat at home.
I dreaded the idea of a foreign holiday (we've only done two) but I found that manageable with lots of cool drinks, the breeze off the sea and some shade.
However it is completely different at home where life is expected to carry on as normal and I can't manage it.

I really wish I could, but I'm glad the weather is lovely for others and my children ☀️😀

Artandco · 19/07/2016 11:23

Maybe - do you not have a park or grassy area anywhere near your flat?
The London parks were full last night with people eating dinner and having drinks between 6-9pm

Gemzb85 · 19/07/2016 11:30

Well i gave ginger hair and fair skin. When I get hot I sweat stupid amounts on my head and face literally driping with sweat. Then I get heat stroke and awful headaches so I will do anything to stay out of the sun to save the embarrassment

princessjonsie67 · 19/07/2016 11:35

Not alone. Much prefer the winter. Snuggling by the fire, cosy clothes, warming stews to eat mmmm . That's why I moved to Scotland (although as I tyoe is 27 degrees)

WaitrosePigeon · 19/07/2016 11:36

This weather is absolutely vile.

JudyCoolibar · 19/07/2016 11:40

As a heat lover my top tips are... create a through breeze with windows/doors open. If you can even open your front and back door, it will make a huge difference to the heat in your house. Close blinds on rooms where the sun is. Loose natural fibre clothes.

I've done all of that. Plus I've got a fan blowing straight at me.

It's still 31 degrees indoors. And I'm still TOO BLOODY HOT.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 19/07/2016 11:42

You can't sit indoors with a fan pointing at you when you've got the pigging school run to do Angry

bluetea · 19/07/2016 11:46

when I was younger, I used to love the heat, sunny days and sunbathing, but now I'm in my 40's I hate it!
