Bunbaker · 14/12/2015 22:15

Those photos are fabulous

RomComPhooey · 14/12/2015 23:12

Oooh lovely. If only I had a private jet to whisk me up to the Orkneys...

RomComPhooey · 14/12/2015 23:18

Where was your pic taken, Tondelaya?

RomComPhooey · 15/12/2015 22:08

Have we just x-posted, BunBaker? Grin

Bunbaker · 15/12/2015 22:13

I wondered. Which webcam link did you use?

RomComPhooey · 15/12/2015 22:19

Same one as you, now I've clicked on yours and seen Longyearbyen at the top.

PseudoBadger · 15/12/2015 22:20

Longyearbyen is on Svalbard so could be 2 cams looking the same

RomComPhooey · 16/12/2015 22:23

A period hug for GloriaSmud tonight. I had to restart my MacBook and lost all my regular (open) tabs - your list of our main sites in the OP is brilliant!

RomComPhooey · 16/12/2015 22:23

Oh arse! Not a period hug - that would be eewww and TMI. No, a periodic hug.

PseudoBadger · 17/12/2015 18:48

And we're off at Tromso and Abisko. 2 CMEs headed our way from the 19th so could be a very decent weekend show at lower altitudes - go away cloud!

2 CMEs? Excellent news! I will keep my fingers crossed for action over Xmas as I'm going far enough north and somewhere dark enough to possibly see something if it's really strong.

Here's one from Abisko earlier

Following Romcom over from another thread, hi!
I have to see the penguin colony webcam! This is whole new world for me but I'd like to get acquainted please. As a child I saw an aurora from a hill in Kilkenny, Ireland. Long time ago.

RomComPhooey · 17/12/2015 22:47

Welcome Tirfar! If you've seen the lights IRL then you are already a champ, along with Bunbaker and Tondelayo.

I'll see if I can find the penguin cam, though it's midsummer there at the mo (Antarctica).

RomComPhooey · 17/12/2015 22:50

It's in amongst the US Antarctic Program's Palmer Station webcams: www.usap.gov/videoclipsandmaps/palwebcam.cfm The penguin cam covers a breeding colony, but there are no chicks at the mo.

Bunbaker · 17/12/2015 23:06

Yay. I'm famous!
The lights we saw were white, not green, but they showed up on the camera as green.

Tirfarthoin · 18/12/2015 08:38

Thanks for the link have book marked it for summer baby penguins.
I was a bit underwhelmed at the time it's only that my mum still bangs on about it that I remember the night. She got us all up to go and see.

Tirfarthoin · 18/12/2015 09:04

This just popped up in my Facebook news feed apologies if you have seen it.
lights

RomComPhooey · 19/12/2015 09:19

Never apologise for good northern lights footage, Tinfar - it leavens our regular diet of skycam footage.

GloriaSmud · 19/12/2015 17:06

According to spaceweather, there's a 70% chance of storms after a CME struck the earth and possibly another one's on its way. Perhaps a good chance of seeing something on the webcams.

Abisko is looking good right now.

FadedRed · 20/12/2015 16:47

Amber alert at the moment on Lancaster university site, big redness on Spaceweather map.
Keep looking Armchair watchers! Maybe, maybe UK tonight?!!! Grin

ademanlu · 20/12/2015 21:13

North coast of Northern Ireland earlier on this evening, has been very quiet on the aurora front here lately as we seem to be constantly covered in cloud. Tonight the cloud stayed behind me and the rain stayed away!
