The UK won’t get totality but depending on where you are, 80-90% of the sun should be covered. More info here.
Let’s hope for clear skies!

2 hours to go
We have high whispy cloud and it's slightly misty (which hopefully will get burned off in the next hour or two.)

Full cloud down here in central southern england

FunMitFlags · 20/03/2015 06:52

Gloria what time will it be at its maximum in the East Midlands?

NotMyUserName · 20/03/2015 06:54

Totally grey, overcast sky here in West Scotland.

I have glasses though from The Sky at Night magazine.

StubbornStains I am also armed with weed killer for those pesky Triffids Grin

Blu · 20/03/2015 07:03

Thick cloud here in London. Will we notice the darkness at 9.30?

Cooroo · 20/03/2015 07:07

Gloria - are you by any chance a fan of the late, great duo? If so please join me in a small glass of Madeira!

RoonersisNOTRoonerspism · 20/03/2015 07:10

It's cloudy here on the South East coast. I can't see a ha'porth of sky.

Relieved in a way as I am worried about ds2 hurting his eyes at school (he is 7)

BohemianRaptor · 20/03/2015 07:12

Blue sky and sunshine here in east Scotland-woo hoo.

Perihelion · 20/03/2015 07:18

I can see the SUN Grin but am concerned about some incoming clouds from the NW. But this is better than expected for Edinburgh.

OwlCapone · 20/03/2015 07:25

I can not see even the vaguest hint of the sun in South London. I suspect the eclipse may be underwhelming.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 20/03/2015 07:29

South London here too, OwlCapone. I'm going to the event on the South Bank but not hopeful.

domesticslattern · 20/03/2015 07:32

I'm still excited because it will go dark. That won't be underwhelming at all. It's just going to be pointless trying to view it directly so my lovingly purchased solar glasses are good for nothing. I am so jealous of people with clear skies!!

BigRedBall · 20/03/2015 07:34

I'm so excited! Sunshine forecast from 8am here! .

msrisotto · 20/03/2015 07:39

Completely overcast in birmingham

GloriaSmud · 20/03/2015 07:39

FunMit 9.31 for the E. Midlands.
Cooroo I am indeed a fan and perhaps will join you for a small one!

I was ridiculously existed about the SE but it's overcast here in North London [disappointed].

I saw the last one in '99 on a beach in turkey, which was eerie.

Will we notice anything?

Lovelyclaycup · 20/03/2015 07:44

Oh,man I dreamed about the eclipse last night! That's how childish fascinated I am by this phenomenon.

Lovelyclaycup · 20/03/2015 07:45

*man? Not quite, "oh, and I dreamed..."

OwlCapone · 20/03/2015 07:55

I'm still excited because it will go dark. That won't be underwhelming at all.

It goes dark every single day :o

I remember the one in 1999 being rather eerie, but it was in august with clear weather at the time.

Blu · 20/03/2015 07:56

I spent £15 on 3 copies of The Sky At Night (unlike some who had clearly just nicked the glasses off the front) and now find that the UK weather will protect my eyes for free.

But will we get the experience of darkness? (London)

AnyFucker · 20/03/2015 07:58

anybody Manchester way ? I haven't got my ass out of bed yet. How is the sky looking and what time are we seeing the action ?

ohidoliketobe · 20/03/2015 07:59

Lancashire here- I think it's meant to start getting darker from 8:30, maximum eclipse for us around 8:39, back to normal 10:30

ohidoliketobe · 20/03/2015 08:00
  • eclipse 9:30
OliviaRinHerts · 20/03/2015 08:01

I'm in Hertfordshire and which I had known before yesterday so I could have got the glasses. Must watch the news more but we normally have in the night garden on for my 7 month old

AnyFucker · 20/03/2015 08:03

heck, I'd better get moving. I will be the one in my front garden in my dressing gown as all the schoolkids walk by at 8:40 Smile
