I'm starting this discussion because I was in danger of hijacking the Icelandic volcano thread. I started using the Mila Icelandic webcams to watch the eruption at Holoraun (the Bardabunga webcams), but lately I've seen the aurora borealis quite a few times on the other webcams, particularly the Thingvellir webcam www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/thingvellir/, although the lights can be seen sometimes on the Hekla and Jokulsarlon ones.

Another OP posted a link to the Hotel Ranga aurora cam, which is here: www.hotelranga.is/northern-lights/northern-light-webcam/

I am posting a couple of pics below for comparison to get you started. The first is a lovely aurora shot at Thingvellir from September, then a more blurry one from last night and a normal dark evening shot.

If you can find any other lovely aurora cams please post links (and pics) below. Happy hunting!

I'm still here under another name. I'm off to iceland next week so hope to get to see something other than cloud !

DustBunnyFarmer · 08/03/2015 06:59

Good luck, not. Please post pics if you get lucky.

And hints of purple in this one.
Think that's about the best of them from overnight.

Another nice sunset and aurora combo at Abisko this evening!

That's lovely, Gloria. I just noticed the cloud had lifted for the last couple of shots and there's some green.

It was beginning to look like we were in for a nice show at Abisko, DustBunny but it's clouded over again. Seems to have done that quite a bit the last few evenings ~ nice sunset+aurora and then clouding over 'til much later and then putting on another show, usually overnight when no one's there to watch!

GloriaSmud · 08/03/2015 21:17

Aw wouldn't you know it ~ in the time it's taken to type that, it's now cleared again!

DustBunnyFarmer · 11/03/2015 19:18

Sodankyla just now.

Last night at Abisko. I like the inky black sky, stars and bright green against it. Sometimes a flash of green is enough.

There's an X2 flare on the way so things could get fun over the next few days.

DustBunnyFarmer · 11/03/2015 19:38

Woo hoo! That does sound exciting. And maybe it will help Notrevealing to have a good show when she visits Iceland.

Longbyearen still live at kho.unis.no/kho_dslr.htm, as the link on the Northern Lights cameras page has been down for a while.

I have to admit wondering why Alaska is always green. Granted we don't check very often (except Badger). Do you think there's a filter?

OP posts:
PseudoBadger · 12/03/2015 14:42

Not always green!

Ok, I take it all back. Grin

Alaska was lovely overnight ~ I tried to do a picture this morning but the (MN) website was being difficult and refused to post my picture.
Abisko has a nice clear sky tonight so hopefully something to be seen soon.

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/03/2015 21:20

When does the X2 flare start to hit earth?

OP posts:
PseudoBadger · 12/03/2015 21:33

I'm getting all my info from www.spaceweather.com/ - anytime from early hours of tomorrow through to the 14th I think.

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/03/2015 21:51

Ooh, exciting.

Surf's up? (A whiff of purple on this shot.)

Loving all these pictures. We were lucky enough to see the northern lights last month in Northern Finland. To the naked eye they were white, but camera footage makes them appear green.

They looked very much like PseudoBadger's image
