Armchair aurora watching

I'm starting this discussion because I was in danger of hijacking the Icelandic volcano thread. I started using the Mila Icelandic webcams to watch the eruption at Holoraun (the Bardabunga webcams), but lately I've seen the aurora borealis quite a few times on the other webcams, particularly the Thingvellir webcam www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/thingvellir/, although the lights can be seen sometimes on the Hekla and Jokulsarlon ones.

I am posting a couple of pics below for comparison to get you started. The first is a lovely aurora shot at Thingvellir from September, then a more blurry one from last night and a normal dark evening shot.

If you can find any other lovely aurora cams please post links (and pics) below. Happy hunting!

Despite the high Aurora level, it all seems to have died down a bit now ~ maybe it'll get going again in another hour or two.

North Finland is lovely at the moment (trying to hold off taking photos ~ think I've only got one left!)

North Finland is fabulous at the moment (now on my tablet and don't think I can do pictures) and all the other aurora service cameras have sprung into life too!

tonight has been a good one for aurora watching.

Indeed it has. It's been so good, I spent half an hour pricing up a cabin at Abisko Mountain Station and flights to Kiruna from the UK. I can't be doing with the Discover the World trip where you spend a bomb and only get one night at Abisko. We all know how hit & miss it can be. I reckon organising a trip independently would be do-able.

Have you got any picture allowance left, Name? There's a fabulous shot just come up at Abisko. I've snapshotted for tomorrow, just in case, but I can't post it now.

Suffice it to say that 6 pictures are nowhere near enough on a night like tonight! I should really be turning in soon, but I don't want to miss anything.
