I'm starting this discussion because I was in danger of hijacking the Icelandic volcano thread. I started using the Mila Icelandic webcams to watch the eruption at Holoraun (the Bardabunga webcams), but lately I've seen the aurora borealis quite a few times on the other webcams, particularly the Thingvellir webcam www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/thingvellir/, although the lights can be seen sometimes on the Hekla and Jokulsarlon ones.

Another OP posted a link to the Hotel Ranga aurora cam, which is here: www.hotelranga.is/northern-lights/northern-light-webcam/

I am posting a couple of pics below for comparison to get you started. The first is a lovely aurora shot at Thingvellir from September, then a more blurry one from last night and a normal dark evening shot.

If you can find any other lovely aurora cams please post links (and pics) below. Happy hunting!

D'oh 'course it is. I'm a pillock!
Nice curtains though!

GloriaSmud · 16/01/2015 20:14

Abisko is putting on a nice show at the moment!

No aurora, but the skidoos are breeding.

Grin at 'skidoos breeding!'
Not a lot showing at the moment ~ Tromso might have a hint of green and Abisko has slightly more but that's it.
And yay! North Finland webcam is working again.

DustBunnyFarmer · 17/01/2015 22:44

This one's for you Gloria, as I read on one of the other threads you were curtailing your late night surfing.

No ~ wasn't me! (think it was OYBBK ~ she found she wasn't getting a good night's sleep after surfing late.)
Some gentle green Aurora at Abisko overnight.

Ah yes, that makes sense as you both frequent the weather threads.

More green again - DH refuses to look at the "boring green ones" now - but I like the cloud effect at the bottom of the shot.

It always surprises me that even though there isn't that high an Aurora level forecast, such loveliness still occurs!

DustBunnyFarmer · 18/01/2015 21:00

I am very relieved to have North Finland and Abisko back.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 18/01/2015 21:03

I know the green Aurora has been more common than other colours but it appears in too many ways to be boring!

GloriaSmud · 18/01/2015 21:06

Porjus almost looks like an alien landscape, with all the green and the shadowy snow covered skidoos.

Abisko is giving what looks like a green search light shining up into the night sky. The small, narrow beam effect is quite interesting.

very nice.

Hello!

DustBunnyFarmer · 18/01/2015 23:09

Hi Badger. It's been a great evening on the Abisko camera. I hope you get a chance to review the pictures before they are overwritten.

I'm nearly up to my daily limit, so here's one more for posterity.

OK, last one - there's a hint of purple and the curtain effect at Porjus right now.

And someone's finally cleared the snow off Kiruna - there's a hint of green on the horizon.

Porjus looking lovely, and Tromso being the usual consistent performer.

PseudoBadger · 18/01/2015 23:20

And just flicked on to Abisko and it's still lovely

Thanks Badger - good to hand over the baton to someone with a photo allowance still to burn.

I thought Sodankyla and Muonio were both offline, but looking carefully at them now I can just make out trees or 'scenery' (for want of a better world) around the edge. They must both be in very dark areas with little light pollution because it's hard to make out, but there is a very, very faint aurora at Sodankyla which has helped.
