west mids it was not too bad when I took the children to school, but by 9.30 it was blowing me about in the car park at the supermarket. rain started at 10.02

GloriaSmud · 05/02/2014 10:31

Leicester signing in here ~ was quite nice this morning and there was a nice sunrise but now it's overcast and the wind's really got up in the last hour.

Posted this link before during other storms but the Guardian have a live blog here, which has the latest news ~ I've always found it a bit more up-to-the-minute than the BBC one. The BBC does have some footage here from Dawlish, which looks like it has taken a real pounding.

magimedi · 05/02/2014 10:41

Windy here but dry at the moment. Not too bad at all.

Threebats - I find it most interesting to hear what the weather is really like in other parts of the UK. I can almost predict what time the rain is going to reach us from reports from further west!

HesterShaw · 05/02/2014 10:47

That was a night to remember alright. Wrecked boats, flooded cottages, hotels damaged, trees down, power gone, railways gone. Quite intense.

Marne · 05/02/2014 10:56

Still really windy here and very wet, no damage here though but am hearing stories of trees down and house flooded nearer to the coast, hope everyone stays safe.

SpottyTeacakes · 05/02/2014 11:22

Hope you're ok Hester.

Dp had another tree fall in front of his van this morning and then another one near him whilst he was at work Shock

It's certainly windy here but nothing too bad...

SpottyTeacakes · 05/02/2014 11:23

Oh we've got amber for rain tomorrow now too Shock

SpottyTeacakes · 05/02/2014 11:24

Through to Saturday....what's the likelihood of my food shopping being delivered Saturday morning?!

denialandpanic · 05/02/2014 11:25

amber for rain until saturday!!

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2014 11:26

part of the pier in Brighton has collapsed apparently. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/02/2014 11:29

Which pier (not that theres anything left of the old one really)

Spotty Shock your poor dh, the trees have it in for him for sure.

It was just on the ITN news but heard rather than watching so not sure. sorry OYBBK.

SpottyTeacakes · 05/02/2014 11:39

It was the old pier

TheGreatHunt · 05/02/2014 11:42

It's quite calm here in London (SE). Bit windy but not dark or raining. I hope everyone on the s coast is safe.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/02/2014 11:53

amber warnings

ormirian · 05/02/2014 12:35

If it carries on we'll be on an island! We're in Bridgwater so between the Levels and the sea. Levels are swamped - dog and I have had had a few long walks recently with my camera - it's quite terrifying but also beautiful (assuming it's not your farm or house that is being flooded of course). The flood defences were revamped back in the 70s after a few bad years so in theory town won't flood can't help being glad we moved away from the river and up a hill a few yeas back. Local park next to the river was flooded a few times and some houses nearb. Not much flooding other than that in the town itself but can't help think it's only a matter of time. The low tides look like high tides - thanks to all the water being pumped off the levels and the spring tides. All a bit apocolyptic!

In north Kent the weather has turned, windy and wet now. A lorry was blowing all over the m25.

Not nice at all, await the closing of the dartford closing now!
Really for those in badly hit areas Sad

Lovecat · 05/02/2014 13:55

Hello, sorry to barge in (I will go and start another thread if necessary), but is there any way of knowing what the weather will be like in Southend on 16th Feb? I have checked 3 different websites and got 3 different answers.

It's DD's birthday party at Adventure Island - she has been dying to go there for the last 3 years and we've always said no - this year we gave in, but I'm very concerned about there being weather issues. We have to confirm the slot tomorrow... in past years we've had indoor activities and glorious sunshine on her day, but typically this year we book for outdoors and it looks like it'll be either freezing cold or dangerously windy or chucking it down or all three!

Any advice would be gratefully received (and then what the heck do I do to conjure up an alternative birthday party with less than a fortnight to go?!? Shock )

Madmog · 05/02/2014 14:19

In Gloucestershire here and it's been raining all day (except for about ten minutes). I think the rainfall has lessened slightly as some of the rather large puddles from overflowing drains have lessened here.

Weather forecaster was saying this weather is definitely here for another week and it could well be too weeks. No joke for those with flood water or other weather related problems.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/02/2014 14:22

Its very early to know for sure lovecat - but it looks pretty likely to be quite wet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/02/2014 14:22

Seems like it was the old pier. Poor sorry thing (I have a piece of it!)

So the picture as it stands.

Today this crap will slowly ease off.

Tomorrow afternoon more crap comes in. By friday parts of the south could have up to another couple of inches of rain. Hence the ambers. snow risk for northern and welsh hilly areas.

Friday evening into Saturday another big storm - similar gusts to today, maybe a little higher inland. Lots of rain. Can anyone feed in some wave info into this? Hester, our wave expert, still seems to be offline.

Still very windy Sunday.

Monday a storm grazes the south. More rain (or perhaps even snow) for the south.

Tuesday more rain blah blah blah.

NE Hants here.
I have literally just been dragged through a hedge backwards Confused
Walked got blown back from town with my umbrella inside out to discover that one of my fence panels has collapsed into next door.
My neighbours are lovely but have 2 very large dogs which need to be in a secure garden. So I have been out crawling through their overgrown flowerbeds trying to prop it up. I did a pretty good job actually, braced it against a mahonia.
Wind seems to have eased slightly and it's stopped raining for at least 10 minutes now.

travellingwilbury · 05/02/2014 14:36

What a marvellous summing up there OYBBK .

It really is grim isn't it ?

I am so glad I am off work for a couple of weeks . I am getting really anxious now driving in this weather , you never quite know what you will find round the next corner .

I am in West Sussex and do a stupid amount of driving down country roads I don't know .
