Aaarrrgghhh - my iPhone has a snowflake symbol for Monday! I'm in East Suffolk, please tell me it's got it wrong.Confused

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2014 13:23

Sorry about the lack of updates, bit over tired and being lazy at the moment.

It does look quite possible as though the Eastern side down through east Anglia may get some snow on Monday. Maybe further in land too and i think the pennines could be a bit interesting. Going to be busy til about 6:30pm but I'll have a proper look later.

I have a few spare minutes.

Sunday night could actually produce some snow showers almost anywhere but I don't think for the majority of people it will last long and will get washed away. Monday the primary risk is down the east.

It remains very interesting through this week into the following weekend, but its going to be a case of short term forecasting. temps are very borderline so it is going to depend on upper air temps and precipitation rates. Some places will be wet, others may be white.

Thanks Kitten, fingers crossed here that it doesn't happen!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2014 18:41

you are welcome :) some of the models have a very snowy end to next week.

Sunday night and monday still look very marginal for most and altitude will have a huge factor on those who may see snow. I think people may see it fall, especially in the east, but it wont really accumulate away from higher ground such as the pennines, so at the moment I wouldnt be too concerned about it - flooding is the big story for Sunday in the SW along with gales in the west and along the south coast.

.

There was a shot of winter sports on the telly earlier, and the snow was falling heavily. It was magical and about a billion times more beautiful than our rain.

I saw blossom on a cherry tree earlier. And buds on daffodills. They'll be up before the snowdrops at this rate.

Please can we have a bit of snow (weekends only) then jump straight to spring.

HesterShaw · 24/01/2014 22:50

There are loads of daffs out here.

Thinking of those poor people on the Levels at the moment :(. Some of them have been cut off since Christmas, and it looks as though Sunday is going to top it all back up again. Sedgemoor district council have pretty much declared a state of emergency, by the sounds of it, or a "serious incident" at any rate, to try and get some outside help. The water just isn't going away.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2014 23:11

Beyond hideous on the levels and they seem to have been completely forgotten about til the last couple of days.

Feel so sorry for the people on the levels, cant imagine how it must be for them being under water since Christmas Sad, luckily the water has gone down a lot here, the rivers are high and will probably burst their banks if we get the heavy rain forcast tomorrow but I cant imagine it being as bad as Christmas. More worried about the wind as we still have damage from before Christmas (fences down ,damage to the garden) and theres still a huge tree down in the village that came down in some poor womans garden (missing her house by cm's), no one seems to have cleared the mess from last time Sad.

I'm not getting excited about snow, can imagine cold conditions could bake standing water freeze and driving conditions will be horrendous, I like snow but this year I would be happy if we missed out and sping came early.

GloriaSmud · 25/01/2014 09:14

Today's Daily Mail has some pictures here of what the villagers of Muchelney (Somerset) are going through at the moment.

digerd · 25/01/2014 11:11

After a wet night, it is brighter and dry so far today and mild 10degrees. Sun peeping through too and clouds breaking up, but for how long??

Helenagrace · 25/01/2014 12:45

Sunny here in Sussex but not liking the look of the rain warnings for tomorrow.

And as for snow well that can just piss right off! So don't need a snow day!

mankyscotslass · 25/01/2014 14:03

Squall line passed through here about 20 minutes ago. it took out several bins and fence panels a and blew a couple of people off their feet. Some thunder and lightning and torrential rain with it, but it has settled to just very windy with some rain. DH and Ds1 are heading to the football. I hope they are not too wet!

Marne · 25/01/2014 15:01

I predict a storm hitting us soon (a have a head ache and the only time I get a head ache is when there's a storm brewing) Grin. The sky is looking grey but so far today has been dry (calm before the storm?) I have a feeling its going to be quite bad as by head is killing Sad.

Batten down the hatches Grin.

Sparklingbrook · 25/01/2014 15:02

Thunder and Lightning here in Worcestershire combined with sheet rain and a howling gale. Sad

BronzeHorseman · 25/01/2014 15:12

Nice....hope it didn't last.

Sparklingbrook · 25/01/2014 15:18

It seems to have passed over now. Have drizzle and howling gale now.

SpottyTeacakes · 25/01/2014 15:33

It's come over awfully grey here Confused Sussex

Marne · 25/01/2014 15:38

My head was right Grin, wind has suddenly picked up and sky has gone dark, hope we get some thunder and lightning Smile.

pinkkoala · 25/01/2014 15:41

We have the mother of all storms, huge hail, awful lightning, thunder were we due. It quite scared me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2014 16:30
Shock It isn't often I'm taken by surprise by the weather. Been a bit preoccupied the past couple of days. Where the hell did this come from????

Sorry for the no warnings!

SE.
Just had lightning, thunder, wind and rain. Stopped raining now for the momentConfused.

BehindLockNumberNine · 25/01/2014 16:42

SE.

We have had a very pleasant day, sunny, quite mild, been out in the garden (replacing fence damaged in last storm) most of the afternoon.

Then, suddenly, 10 minutes ago, the world ended!
It has gone pitchblack (well, almost), we have wind and very heavy rain.

Shock
digerd · 25/01/2014 16:44

At its worst the rain was pelting almost horizontally from the North. Confused

pigsinmud · 25/01/2014 16:47

Surrey - went from grey to pitch black in a matter of seconds. Big rain drops. Chickens ran like mad back to the safety of their run/coop!
