So r4 reports the environment agency as saying for this afternoon right down the east coast to Essex. Just eating my breakfast so will dig out the relevant info in a little bit.

We aren't affected but a lot of people not far away are.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 06/12/2013 09:39

Hope you dh is ok SoH

Hemsby sounds a bit messy. Bungalows on the beach, lifeboat shed gone. Dh has a friend with a small holiday park there. I think it's set away from the sea though, I hope so anyway.

Stay safe everyone. That second tide has happened here and it's not got worse by all accounts.

DameFanny · 06/12/2013 09:45

Poor DH Soh - hope he gets plenty of rest now

Danceasifnooneswatching · 06/12/2013 10:05

All calm in Lowestoft now hope it stays that way!!

boschy · 06/12/2013 10:40

its a beautiful sunny morning here in SE Kent... hard to believe that so many of you have been so badly affected. I hope everyone is safe and that your insurance companies are getting their fingers out.

next high tide for is is about 1pm - cant anticipate anything happening, there is no wind/rain/cloud etc.

A few photos from Boston here:

I was worried about my mum in Mabo but it only trickled over the pullover there, I think. Some epic photos on facebook of the sea crashing into the carparks on the top of the prom/sandhills though.

TidalSurgeWorries · 06/12/2013 11:16

Sorry about your car Showy, glad your husband wasn't hurt. What a horrible end to a hard day/night though.

Please tell him that his hard work is appreciated.

Have spoken to my Mum this morning, she had a rough night, not much sleep, but her rd stayed dry thankfully.

Oh Showy. So glad he's now safe home. Another one passing on thanks and appreciation for his hard work.

Indeed, big thanks to everyone working so hard last night, and through the day. Not over yet, of course.

TidalSurgeWorries · 06/12/2013 11:59

I think Kessingland is ok. Don't quote me on it, but from things Ive heard from people in the area it is ok.

They confirmed it's all ok at the mo then?

It's not selfish, sounds like it is your sanctuary, so I understand your concern.

TheOnlySevenSleighbells · 06/12/2013 12:36

It's not selfish mrsdevere, glad your caravan is ok.

I take it all is still fine in Lowestoft, it's now about high tide, I've heard the bridge is still closed. The waves are quite high here in Southwold.

I live near the adur estuary, Shoreham and that flooded overnight in placesShock I have never known that to happen. I love to run along the river and I love to see it at high tide, the river changes so much, but I never dreamt it would flood.

I went for a run this morning and could see where the banks had been breached. Some poor people in a business building at the side of the river mucking out. The airport the other side of the river was totally waterlogged too.

High tide very soon, hopefully no more flooding.

sisterofmercy · 06/12/2013 13:03

Apparently the Sea-life centre in Hunstanton are rescuing fish that have been washed in. Awwww...

Ephiny · 06/12/2013 13:05

There are porpoises in the Thames near Westminster, apparently, presumably washed in by the surge...

TheOnlySevenSleighbells · 06/12/2013 13:16

Yes mrsdevere, do you know the harbour inn? There was a foot of water in the upstairs bar apparently, that must be nearly as high as the 53 floods. Thank goodness the defences in front of the town are better than they were then. The surge has gone right up the river and flooded the A12 at blythburgh.

liquidstate · 06/12/2013 14:41

Well the family beach hut in Cromer is still standing (its council owned but we rent full time). Fortunately we are one of the brick built ones furthermost from the pier, but we cannot go down until tomorrow to see if the doors and contents are still there as it is closed of by the coastguard. Had a lot of toys and some furniture in it, just decorated this year. The lovely timber beach huts are now just driftwood, completely gone Sad.

The promenade walls are destroyed in many places and there is a lot of damage to the pier.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 06/12/2013 14:43

This video shows the flooding at Shoreham airport and footage of where the bank has just disintegrated, complete with path that we all walked along last weekend!

I ran along the other path the other side of that stretch of river this morning.

Just driven through sheringham and Cromer (going to argos, oh the joys)
Cromer looks to be ok. Obviously there is some damage such as the beach huts but it looks ok considering.
I didn't see Marvin's though.

DownstairsMixUp · 06/12/2013 15:01

:O At Shoreham! How is the emerald quay? Can't find anything about it so assuming it's ok!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 06/12/2013 15:18

I think it's okay Downstairs, from what I've read ferry Road and Brighton Road by the yacht club were affected. Plus some of the old business properties alongside the Adur beyond the railway bridge.

The waterside inn had a flooded cellar.

I don't think it was really expected this far along the south coast.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 06/12/2013 15:21

I think we have to just keep reminding ourselves it's only building and things. It's not the numerous lives it could have been.
