here primarily for gales/severe gales (gusts up to 80mph) but also for snow on thurs and friday. In parts of Scotland, esp the NE the combination could lead too blizzard conditions and severe wind chill. Take care.

Will be very interested Gloria!

Envy perihelion.

Am listening to radio norfolk at the moment. Presenters are very cheery!

I am in Manchester, a lorry was overturned earlier on Barton Bridge due to high winds and our building has been rocking a bit (very high up).

Can't hear it as much now, so perhaps dying down.

GloriaSmud · 05/12/2013 13:27

10.3C. Bit of blustery rain but not much else so far. Still dark.

fairisleknitter · 05/12/2013 13:29

My son was observing the swirling winds outside our front door this morning. He did "do" weather in geography this year but I wouldn't put much faith in his weather knowledge.

It was seriously intense with us for a while and very blustery. I was on the brink of saying no school as the trees looked risky. It was much worse than had been forecast (yesterday) through central belt. A lorry driver has been killed not far away . A terrible morning.

GloriaSmud · 05/12/2013 13:29

Just said on BBC News that North Lincolnshire should prepare for flooding from 5pm.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 05/12/2013 13:32

9.9C (I'm trying to do the temp every 10 mins or so) and gone very dark.

GloriaSmud · 05/12/2013 13:51

9C Still dark but not actually that windy. Think this is the quietest it's been since 11am ish.

GloriaSmud · 05/12/2013 13:59

Lucky escape there!
There are reports on our local news that Mansfield's Christmas tree has been blown over and a tree has fallen on a house in Shepshed (near Loughborough.)
Temp down to 8.7C atm.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 05/12/2013 14:00

I think it will pick up again when the skies clear Gloria. Still seems very lively.

Lucky family!

According to my DM, after a brief quiet sunny spell, it is now snowin on the banks of the Clyde.

Four seasons in one day (almost).

TurnOffTheTv · 05/12/2013 14:18

It's been bonkers in Durham City today. 10am brought winds and rain of end of the world proportions, bins flying everywhere, then lovely sun! 45 mins ago it was sideways rain, hail and snow, now the suns back out!

allmycats · 05/12/2013 14:23

A1 closed both North and South - North Near Pontefract, South just before Doncaster.
Here - 8 miles south of Doncaster trees are down in the street and blocking the road
The weather, apart from the wind is bright and sunny

Perihelion · 05/12/2013 14:23

Standard Scottish weather then manky. Snow didn't get going here. 3C now, started the morning at 8C. Pressure rising.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 05/12/2013 14:24

Totally terrified all night here, ended up going out at 4:30am to move the garden table and play frame. W have lots of massive trees at the end of the back garden and I was frightened one would come down.

Next door's goal post has knocked their fence down and a trampoline in a house behind us isn't there anymore. Other next door's trampoline rolled down their hill.

In Glasgow.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 05/12/2013 14:24

Oh yes, it's now snowing too. Hmm

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 05/12/2013 14:27

schro - serious question: why dont people secure their trampolines? I know its been a nasty storm but you arent unused to them up there.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 05/12/2013 14:29

Brightened up here (Leicester) and the wind's dropped. I think the temperature's finished dropping and gone from 11C down to 8.8C in just over an hour.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 05/12/2013 14:29

I have no idea why they don't, we don't have one and our big playframe is holding our table steady against the wall. Next door have just put their garden chairs, table and parasol(!) on and beside their playframe. Worried about the parasol.

Bloody hate trampolines, they give me the fear in storms.

GloriaSmud · 05/12/2013 14:30

Reports of snow showers showing up here.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 05/12/2013 14:30

keep measuring Gloria!

ouryve · 05/12/2013 14:35

Why do people need a parasol out in December, anyhow?Hmm
