here primarily for gales/severe gales (gusts up to 80mph) but also for snow on thurs and friday. In parts of Scotland, esp the NE the combination could lead too blizzard conditions and severe wind chill. Take care.

Getting windier here (Leicester) Our top gust so far is 15mph (a mere breeze to what the north of the country is having) and I've heard several wheelie bins go over. Our temperature is going up though ~ 8.5C. Xmas Confused

justmuddlingalong · 05/12/2013 10:39

Forth Road Bridge open again (cars only at the moment).

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 05/12/2013 10:39

Darlington here. Sounds windy here. Don't think I will be going out for a run later.

dingdongduckyfuzz · 05/12/2013 10:40

I'm near you biscuits and I've cancelled my run this morning too! Have to go to Hartlepool later...

Gracelo · 05/12/2013 10:46

Calming down in Argyll, still windy but nothing that would be considered unusual for around here.
Some trees were done and there is lots of rubbish everywhere but no major damage I could spot.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 05/12/2013 10:48

Good luck dingdong

BanjoPlayingTiger · 05/12/2013 10:48

I have just caught the trampoline. I am a bit annoyed as DH was supposed to sort it out before he went to work. Still, I have managed to secure it (I hope). I am watching it nervously at the moment.

The back fence has also blown down.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/12/2013 10:49

w mids blustery here. i am not looking forward to the squall line going through. it is raining on and off already.

IShallWearMidnight · 05/12/2013 10:50

anyone know if the east coast trains from Aberdeen are likely to be running tomorrow (parents supposed to be travelling down south today, all trains out of Scotland cancelled, but tickets valid tomorrow)? Are any bits of the line in danger of flooding etc? If it was Southern Fail, I'd know that there wouldn't be a service for about a week, but maybe East Coast is a bit more robust Wink?

RubySparks · 05/12/2013 10:51

So had a few problems leaving the house, road in one direction has a corrugated iron barn roof blocking it and in the other lots of smaller branches down and a large flooded area to negotiate!

ouryve · 05/12/2013 10:51

I'll post my Northeast news and travel twitter list, too - very handy

BlackeyedSusan · 05/12/2013 10:51

what was worse about the east cost flooding warnings was that they said it may be the worst for 60 years... 1953 was not a good year Sad

RubySparks · 05/12/2013 10:52

Scotrail are saying the problem is debris on train lines, so lots of fallen trees to clear.

Perihelion · 05/12/2013 10:52

Wanking I love your name Smile, right off out to walk the dogs.

ouryve · 05/12/2013 10:54

DH is stuck in an office complex with a metal roof. Not enjoying it!

meditrina · 05/12/2013 10:56

I don't think people remember how bad it was in 1953 and I really hope it is nowhere near as sever as that.

ouryve · 05/12/2013 10:58

And our power is now starting to flicker. Have put the kettle on and turned the heating up, just in case!

HesterShaw · 05/12/2013 11:02

I was looking at footage of 53 in preparation for a lecture on coastal defences. Truly frightening. They downplayed it because the country so so demoralised from war and rationing and so on, but it was Britain's worst ever peacetime disaster. The Netherlands had it much worse.

dingdongduckyfuzz · 05/12/2013 11:04

hmm they've shut the road I should be using in about an hour...

meditrina · 05/12/2013 11:13

An Environment Agency official, speaking in Wells, said all the conditions were in place for flooding in north Norfolk; he was saying it might be like 1978 (not 1953, so a small mercy).

Really hoping it's not as bad as they predict it could be.

ClaimedByMe · 05/12/2013 11:14

We have snow!!!!!!

FourAndDone · 05/12/2013 11:20

Where are you claimed?
I'm in the midlands and have never known it be so windy!Confused

RalphGnu · 05/12/2013 11:22

Coastal Lancashire here. Fence panels are down in the back garden - our neighbour's jack russell has escaped through our garden and is missing and my neighbour isfrantic.

Really quite frightened. The tree in my garden is cracking.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 05/12/2013 11:27

I don't remember the last two major floods '53 but there are markers all around here showing the flood heights.
My children's school flooded though... Luckily the next high tide isn't during school hours. I do have friends in the village though.

StealthPolarBear · 05/12/2013 11:28

"it was Britain's worst ever peacetime disaster."

Ever? Wow
