here primarily for gales/severe gales (gusts up to 80mph) but also for snow on thurs and friday. In parts of Scotland, esp the NE the combination could lead too blizzard conditions and severe wind chill. Take care.

106 mph gust recorded in Stirlingshire! The wind has gotten worse here in Fife the last half hour or so. It's been bad all night but now it's getting scary.

Perihelion · 05/12/2013 08:00

Gusts of 80mph+ recorded from Forth Bridge since 6am.

42notTrendy · 05/12/2013 08:04

Thank you for doing this oybbk. It's my first port of call in the mornings to see what you have updated!
Gusty here in Nottingham.

mankyscotslass · 05/12/2013 08:07

DM in Renfrewshire reports very high winds, she is surprised the Erskine Bridge has not yet been closed.

There have been lorries overturned on the M74 and the A83.

justmuddlingalong · 05/12/2013 08:09

Teenagers passed by my window 5 mins ago wearing hoodies. All for the sake of looking cool. The rain is torrential and it's soooo windy. They should be wrapped up in wellies and duffel coats! Grin

BanjoPlayingTiger · 05/12/2013 08:12

Its not nice out there in Durham. I've been awake since 4.30 with the noise of it.
I think I will mostly be staying in today.

WankingInAWinterWonderland · 05/12/2013 08:14

My bins were over this morning, recycling everywhere, and DS has just gone to school, I was going to keep him home as its so bad but schools are open.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 05/12/2013 08:17

you are welcome :)

I'm off to work but will catch up with everyone at lunchtime.

I can't get any of the animals out for a wee Here! Durham, on the coast.

Sitting looking out at the garden and I don't think my fence will last the day.

I did however have a great idea this morning. I thought I will walk the dogs at the beach, the cliffs will give me some protection from the wind.

Yes it will, but the sea surge will drown me. Honestly my last brain cell gave up from loneliness!

So I'm now going to attempt a nursery run and dog walk. I don't think I will be long!!

RubySparks · 05/12/2013 08:24

20000 without power in the highlands and that is expected to rise. We are south of Edinburgh and have high winds and flickering power at the moment. Lots of train services suspended and advice not to travel unless essential.

unlucky83 · 05/12/2013 08:32

Tay road bridge closed has been since 7am (mean winds 80+ mph)...and I think they are higher? It's windier here than it has been in a while (and bridge was closed earlier in the year)
DD1 has gone off on the school bus - double decker, open fields , 11 miles -but the schools are open and bus running...tiny bit worried...
I know we are used to it! - but I didn't even know this was forecast - unlike the blanket storm coverage for England a month or so ago...

StealthPolarBear · 05/12/2013 08:37

Another durhamer here.
Loads of trains cancelled. A19 overturned lorries

justmuddlingalong · 05/12/2013 08:38

The Forth Road Bridge is now closed completely.

unlucky83 · 05/12/2013 08:40

Some school buses now cancelled - because not using double deckers ...but DD1 is already on one!

littleredsquirrel · 05/12/2013 08:42

Extremely windy here in Nottinghamshire. Our gate is broken and is slamming every couple of seconds.

RubySparks · 05/12/2013 08:43

Glasgow Central Station evacuated due to danger of falling glass.

KatieScarlett2833 · 05/12/2013 08:47

Forth Bridge completely closed

ClaimedByMe · 05/12/2013 08:48

Wheelie bins and branches on the loose here in Dundee, just away to leave for the school and dog walk :(

RubySparks · 05/12/2013 09:06

ALL trains cancelled in Scotland and our power is cutting out every few minutes... So no mumsnetting for me if it stays off!

festivefrolics · 05/12/2013 09:09

Very very windy in the Irish Sea area. We are used to the wind here but it does seem to be stronger than forecast. We were forecasted F8 to F9 gusts but I spent a large part of the night listening to the house creak which it only does if we have a F10.

lyndie · 05/12/2013 09:11

That was the most awful walk to school I've ever done. I can't believe the schools were open as normal, it really wasn't safe to go anywhere!

Gatekeeper · 05/12/2013 09:14

SW Durham and horrendous here; recyling bins overturned everywhere and a few aeriels off. Walking back from the bus stop after dropping ds off I was facing it al the way back and could hardly catch my breath!

Not moving from fireside today and am baking lots. Corned beef pie and chips for tea and steamed syrup pudden with custard- lots of bulk to act as ballast Grin

WankingInAWinterWonderland · 05/12/2013 09:16

Ive stacked my bins against a wall in the hope the wind wont catch them (again) my power keeps flickering on/off too - I think/hope the worst hs passed

Happiestinwellybobs · 05/12/2013 09:20

Horrendous in Lancashire. I hate the wind:( Reports of trees down local to us.

Going to have to go out as run out of essentials. Can also report Happiestdog's extreme ear flappiness and reluctance to go out for a wee Grin

Perihelion · 05/12/2013 09:25

Nothing landing at Edinburgh airport.
Temp has dropped a couple of degrees in the last 1/2 hour, and lost a slate off my roof ( so much for sturdy Scottish roofs OYBBK Grin )
