OYBBK only noticed the lack of gust data as it had no gusts for EDinburgh at 20:00, which was shite....The 21:00 data seems a bit more complete.

youarewinning · 27/10/2013 21:47

In last 45 minutes we've gone from F4 gusting F6 to F7 gusting F9 Shock

tillyo · 27/10/2013 21:48

Kitten, it just said due to bad wind, the staff are still there as all the traffic is being diverted through the tunnel and tolls still open. It is quite windy now. x

musicposy · 27/10/2013 21:48

Kitten you need a medal for all this advice. I love mumsnet at times like this Thanks

BasicFish · 27/10/2013 21:49

Second that winning
OYBBK the updates have been awesome, thank you, and it's great to hear what's happening where everyone is. and saves me planning my lessons

East Anglia still a bit blowy but nothing too unusual. Already had to tell work I won't make it in first thing, but hoping to get in at some point. The worst of it is due to hit us between 8am and 12pm so knowing my luck I'll get stranded at work..

1leggedwobbler · 27/10/2013 21:52

We have had F5 & F6 all day gusting F8 in exposed spots (which is where I was on crutches with a broken ankle with the kids!!wahey!) :) for us nothing unusual weather wise, we have F11 quite often in the autumn.

But the colour of the sky tonight at sunset was something I have never seen before, a very strange peachy pink colour. For those that are interested I'm in the IOM.

CatAmongThePigeons · 27/10/2013 21:52

OYBBK thanks for all this, it's been a great learning experience.

Just wet here, no wind at all.

CloudBursting · 27/10/2013 21:53

I'm just north of Portsmouth and based upon DH's weather station, we have just had a gust 53 mph. The wind speed is beginning to pick up rapidly here.

LayMizzRarb · 27/10/2013 21:54

It is really interesting to read what you write Kitten. Will this last beyond next weekend do you think? (I'm flying in 12 days from Heathrow)

1leggedwobbler · 27/10/2013 21:55

kitten, I've heard that another low is brewing that might clobber the northern half of the uk next weekend, is this true??

ChubbyKitty · 27/10/2013 21:55

Oh no. Not-so-stray cat is out again. I'd have him in but DP doesn't want him in because last time he infested us with fleasHmm

flootshoot · 27/10/2013 21:55

Pissing down in Surrey now but no wind yet..

youarewinning · 27/10/2013 21:55

LOL cloudbursting I just posted a message to you on the storm update thread. Check out bramble.net. Winds in solent gone from F$-F^ to F7-9 in past 45 minutes. Definatly getting windier here. Just got to wait and see if the actual storm hits us or not now.

youarewinning · 27/10/2013 21:56

I'm North Portsmouth too Grin

CatAmongThePigeons · 27/10/2013 21:59

Watching Marine Traffic and there's definitely a lack of ships sailing down the channel at the moment. Lots have seemingly decided to stay away. There's a few huge ships gently sailing back and forth out in the big bay but they're definitely erring on the side of caution.

MuffCakes · 27/10/2013 22:00

I'm in bristol and its raining but not extremely. I thought the storm was coming up from cornwall to bristol, wales and then across midlands?

MuffCakes · 27/10/2013 22:02

Do we have to turn off internet and computers and tvs and stuff in a storm?

CloudBursting · 27/10/2013 22:02

youarewinning - I hoped this storm would miss us, after the massive thunderstorm last week (and of course not forgetting the Hayling tornado!)

Herisson · 27/10/2013 22:03

Very wet now here in London but not particularly windy.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/10/2013 22:03

west mids: it is really quiet here and very still. the calm before the storm.

lagoonhaze · 27/10/2013 22:04

Been raining for four hours and now getting worse. Hardly any sound of cars this evening. Bet roads flooded in usual crucial places.

Herisson · 27/10/2013 22:04

Do we have to turn off internet and computers and tvs and stuff in a storm?

Not really. But there is the potential for surges so it would be better to have PCs etc plugged into surge protected adapters, if you have them.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 22:05

muffcakes - If you are in an area where you expect power cuts its not a bad idea to shut down your computer cos they don't like it when power goes on and off at random.

I tend to unplug everything bar the machine that runs my website and the internet.

BadRoly · 27/10/2013 22:05

Wind picking up now here in Cornwall but still not excessive. And heavy rain continues.

Anyone M4 area, dh left here 5.30 so should be somewhere between Bristol and Reading by now?

cloudskitchen · 27/10/2013 22:05

Can anyone in South Devon let me know how it is so far please, especially coastal South Hams? Thank you
