quints - not worth it, delays and cancellations already announced.

My weatherstation has announced its raining cats and dogs. No wonder my cats look so agitated! Grin

oh - might get that app Grin DS would love it and it is his Ipad so cant really clog it up with apps for me!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 21:17

Geckos - I'm just an amateur, I frequently put up disclaimers about how I could well be really wrong and not to rely on me! I am really really interested in it - go to conferences and what not and done a bit of online studying.
There are lots of weather enthusiasts around the weather section though, not just me :)

They're showing the lifeboats on BBC news I don't know how they do it. The boat is getting tossed about like a leaf in the wind.

Geckos48 · 27/10/2013 21:20

So you have a love for it?

Thats good enough for me!

Sorry you shouldnt have to qualify yourself I was just interested!

I think its fantastic that we have you, I love speaking to people who have a real passion for something, its what makes the world go round!

Perihelion · 27/10/2013 21:21

Have also noticed on the Met Office latest observations page, some of the sites are missing the wind gust data. Not sure I've seen that before when I'm certain some are experiencing gusts.

4yoniD · 27/10/2013 21:21

starfish - that will be your contention ratio, too many people on mumsnet!

musicposy · 27/10/2013 21:23

QuintsHollow I will ask DH what is planned.

cloudskitchen · 27/10/2013 21:23

OYBBK glad I'm not the only one that's excited. Might not be saying that when all my fences are missing in the morning Grin

LittleNoona · 27/10/2013 21:25

West London - raining now, but no heavier than normal, a bit gusty at times

Dawndonnaagain · 27/10/2013 21:25

All quiet on the Norfolk/Suffolk borders at the moment.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 21:25

:) Geckos -I always get worried about people relying to much on what I say! thank you!

perihelion, its causing a few issues that. Either they are in complete slack areas of pressure or something a bit strange is happening.

also.. raining in north surrey. Just your average Sunday night Smile Grin Wink

mignonnette · 27/10/2013 21:26

Not too bad here in West Suffolk. A bit breezy, a bit fresh. Definitely something in the air but what is yet to be revealed.

ChubbyKitty · 27/10/2013 21:27

In a way I'm a little bit excited. I love when it snows and I don't have to work and I get to pj it up all day. And we had some flash flooding a couple of months ago and some friends were here and we played a new version of D&D and managed to hotbox* one friends car when we went out to smoke so we didn't get wet. Good memories really.

*it was normal tobacco. Nothing illegal.

However, i also don't want tree in my house. I don't need it any closer, I already hate the damn thing. And I bet it's covered in spiders Sad

www.bramblemet.co.uk/(S(jqlxqi45ovlvydj3oqkxkd3v))/wind.aspx

I've been watching this with interest. Can hear it getting windier now. (about 5 miles from actual bramblenet on mainland)

Geckos48 · 27/10/2013 21:29

The coolest things I have found out about the weather have come from little old men who have told me about things like 'the blackthorn winter' and how to tell when its going to rain (low pressure signs etc)

I really respect that scientists dedicate their lives to this stuff, but a little bit of love can teach so much.

musicposy · 27/10/2013 21:29

QuintsHollow all normal up until when he left early evening.

However he says to warn you they can't use the jettys to get people on and off the planes in high winds as it is too unsafe. So in winds of above about 60 miles an hour they won't let people on or off planes. The most likely scenario is that the flight would be delayed but you would get to go eventually, particularly if the winds die down later on.

He would book only if you are willing to be patient, don't mind possible delays, can get to Gatwick safely (yes DH, not sure you're going to manage that one!) and don't have an urgent time limit.

blankslate · 27/10/2013 21:32

Wind has all but gone here now with just some light rain- I'm assuming it will get worse again later right?

Although the worst news possible has already hit our town today :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 21:33

Latest NAE is a little weaker, downgrading max gusts for us - then deepening rapidly after it leaves the UK.

JKSLtd · 27/10/2013 21:33

Chubby - I hadn't even considered the spiders...eek!

Rain has started in essex, pretty calm still, so far.

And no word yet on travellers in Devon...

HissyFucker · 27/10/2013 21:34

Torrential, steady rain in North Hampshire. Wind seems quieter though than earlier.

RustyBear · 27/10/2013 21:34

I've been looking at the Living Earth app too, also MeteoEarth which has a very pretty wind speed animated forecast. I'm hoping it's accurate, as it shows the worst of the wind coming up from the south west and then doing a sharp turn just before it gets to where I am and just missing us!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 21:35

blankslate - are you down where that lad has gone out to sea? :(
the weather will worsen later.

LadyStark · 27/10/2013 21:35

It's very loud wind and lots of rain here on the south coast, struggling to hear Homeland. It's nice having a house on the beach and all but it does have its drawbacks!
