Oh that poor boy. And his poor family Sad

BIWI · 27/10/2013 18:59

The reason that trains are being cancelled is that:

  • the rail networks know that the storm is coming
  • the severity/extent of it is highly likely to mean that a lot of debris will end up on the tracks, therefore running trains could be very dangerous

starfish that sounds mad. You will be fine, I've just made OH find the torch and put it somewhere sensible. He refuses to light the fire though because 'its not cold enough' but at least we know we can make fire if we need to.

kaleysmiley · 27/10/2013 19:04

lol anyone notice itvs movie of the night - the perfect storm looool

Trills · 27/10/2013 19:04

BIWI - exactly - it's very sensible to say ahead of time "we will need to check the tracks" rather than have everyone turn up early in the morning and wonder why the trains are not running yet.

Sleepingbunnies · 27/10/2013 19:04

I noticed smiley! :)

ChubbyKitty · 27/10/2013 19:05

DP should have just finished. I really hope they don't keep him late. I'll hit the roof and we won't have to worry about it being blown awayHmm

ScaryHalloweenName · 27/10/2013 19:06

Still virtually no wind here. It seems I live in the non windy part of Cornwall

ScreamsInTheNight · 27/10/2013 19:08

My DP is working tonight too- he is hoping the storm is later rather than earlier! Is your DP a firefighter too Chubbykitty?

kaleysmiley · 27/10/2013 19:12

CatAmongThePigeons · 27/10/2013 19:12

Screams Hope all goes well for your DP. Mine is on leave today, thankfully.

Am hoping for the best for the emergency services tonight.

OddBoots · 27/10/2013 19:12

tugamommy I can see the Luton Airport control tower from here and the weather is calm at the moment so hopefully it'll stay that way for the next half an hour or so (and longer). I'm sure the coach will be fine as it'll be travelling ahead of the storm.

AtticusMcPlatypus · 27/10/2013 19:15

ScaryHalloween and fellow Cornwall peeps

No wind in the north of the county either. Is this the interlude before the main event? Wish it would hurry up and get started now although I shall be seriously pissed off if the power goes off (its always a bit temperamental here in bad weather) before Downton finishes!

Screams he works in a supermarket!

Hope yours is okay though that's much more dangerous!! Worst thing for mine is getting stuck on checkouts..

youarewinning · 27/10/2013 19:18

Wind in Hampshire is calmer than its been all day atm!

BelleOfTheBorstal · 27/10/2013 19:19

Five am? But that's when I leave to go to work. Can't it hit a bit earlier please?

cathers · 27/10/2013 19:22

South East Cornwall here! Remarkably calm- not much wind at all but bucketing it down!
Garden bits are secured though and bits strapped down.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2013 19:22

screams - thats the thinking at the moment - I'm currently watching people compare buoy data with what was expected. If I start to see any deviation in what was modelled I'll update.

though its pudding time first!

Its a bit gusty here in the SE but nothing exceptional (yet). Was miffed today when Eltham palace closed their gardens due to the weather warnings and there wasn't even a gentle breeze Grin

greenapples · 27/10/2013 19:27

We've had a bit of a lull this evening, but to quote Guernsey Weather "Winds starting to turn southwest. Here we go ..."
