funkybuddah · 17/01/2013 17:08

light snow in north hampshire, the snowflakes that landed looked like little stars, so cool.

StairsInTheNight · 17/01/2013 17:16

got my sledge, fainted on way home and now booked into poxy hospital until at least midday tomorrow. How is this fair?! I jinxed myself!

BigStickBIWI · 17/01/2013 17:21

Sorry, OYSSK, I realise you're snowed under (Grin) with requests, but can I repeat mine from this morning? I'm really worried about DS2 making his exam:

DS2 has an AS re-sit on Friday morning. His college is in Esher, a good 20-30 minute drive from here, SW19 - which would be a nightmare of a drive if it's snowed. He normally goes by train, which is on the mainline out of Wimbledon to Thames Ditton - I think it's probably originally from Waterloo.

His exam will be starting at 9 which means he would have to leave home at 8. Obviously if there's a chance of snow, he will probably need to leave earlier.

What do you reckon for us on Friday morning? I'm really worried he's not going to make it in in time for the exam!

DamnDeDoubtance · 17/01/2013 17:22

You alright Stars? What made you faint? Have some Thanks

TobyLerone · 17/01/2013 17:23

Shock stairs! Are you ok?

Hassled · 17/01/2013 17:24

I've had my fill of bloody snow - the snow which fell here on Monday and Tuesday is still very much around, and has now frozen solid. Walking to work is treacherous. They only seem to be expecting us to get "light snow" from now on, at least.

mumat39 · 17/01/2013 17:24

Stairs, hope you're ok. Take care. xxx

Hassled · 17/01/2013 17:24

Oh Stairs - blimey - are you OK?

snowflakehellokitty · 17/01/2013 17:24

Snow day tomorrow Grin

ArkadyRose · 17/01/2013 17:26

Hmm, ForecastFox (which gets its feed from AccuWeather) is saying snow tonight for London. We certainly seem to have enough cloud cover, and it feels like snow. Radar images look favourable too. I think we may see some early snow showers tonight ahead of the main snow band tomorrow; what think you, OYSSK? (Nice NC BTW. Grin)

Flojobunny · 17/01/2013 17:27

Well its cold enough. Can't wait!

droitwichmummy · 17/01/2013 17:28

Snowing in central Birmingham for a couple of hours but not settling (too many feet!) Trains in/out of New Street station seem to be ok.

TheSkiingGardener · 17/01/2013 17:33

I keep watching the forecasts change on the BBC. We are meant to be driving from Southampton to SE London tomorrow at about 4 p.m. but all plans are changeable depending on what actually happens. I'm hoping that the cold weather already being here means the grit will stay on the roads and the traffic moving will keep them clear.

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and will have my 2 year old with me. We're collecting DH on the way. I'm quite calm about the whole thing but MIL is getting a bit worried. Am I nuts?

WhispersOfWickedness · 17/01/2013 17:34

Can I ask about the Lincolnshire Wolds please, OYSSK? We already have a bit still lying from Monday, I don't really want any more!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 17/01/2013 17:34

Hope you are ok stairs!

Is my name still coming up highlighted as the op? I'll name change back if its not as I dont want to make it tricky for people to find answers to questions.

arcady, I wouldnt be surprised if london got a few nsow showers tonight. We seem to be here already. Its settling, but just a dusting.

BIWI, he should get there ok, but I would allow extra time. Coming home will be more fun for him!

Molepom · 17/01/2013 17:35

No it's not OYSSK, sorry.

BionicEmu · 17/01/2013 17:35

Well it's been snowing lightly here in north-east Derbyshire for a couple of hours now, all settling as the ground is still frozen. It's stepped it up in the last 15 minutes, bigger flakes & more of them. I would say it is now snowing steadily.

I thought this wasn't due until tomorrow?!

ArkadyRose · 17/01/2013 17:36

BigSTick, my DD2 is a student at the BRIT school in Croydon and I've warned her she'll have to set off extra early tomorrow to get there for 9 - most of the services out of Victoria, Waterloo & London Bridge are running revised timetables tomorrow and I have the feeling that south of the river is likely to get snow in advance of us up here in E17. So probably best to allow extra time. To be honest, for an exam I'd allow an extra hour. The train services down that way get very disrupted in snow - I remember what a nightmare it was back when I used to be a Line Controller for the District Line, and how the District service to Wimbledon & Richmond used to get badly affected by the knock-on effect from the mainline services.

The SSL lines on London Underground (Met, Circle, District, H&C & ELL) will be running sleet trains through the night so the first trains out of the depots shouldn't be too badly affected, assuming the de-icing units don't run out of Glycol. The Piccadilly & Jubilee lines usually go up the spout quite quickly in snow though. Bakerloo line usually starts out OK but could deteriorate fairly quickly. Victoria line should be fine unless staffing levels begin to be affected (staff unable to get in for later shifts for example). Northern line usually keeps going, though there could be delays in the overground sections; ditto Central line. The worst effects likely won't be felt until the evening peak from 5-6pm onwards though.

BigStickBIWI · 17/01/2013 17:36

Thanks, OYBBK. I'm not worried about him getting home Grin

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 17/01/2013 17:36

TSG - a little nuts I'd say.

We saw a snow plough going past a bit ago down the main rd, so they seem to be preparing round here.

WoW - probably around mid to late afternoon before it gets to you.

mankyscotslass · 17/01/2013 17:38

Still nothing!
