\link{http://travel.aol.co.uk/2012/04/24/may-might-be-miserable-but-junes-going-to-be-hot/\YAY, I found it} (in AOL travel, not Huff post news

'This summer from June to August is reportedly set to be a perfect time to take a staycation - thanks to a weather pattern called the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), which is seeing a shift in its four-year negative phase that will allow warm air to push through.
Dr Todd Crawford of Weather Services International told the Express: "As we head into the summer period, we expect a distinctly different pattern to what we have observed over the last four years.
"Since the factor that drove the negative NAO for the last four years are no longer in place, we expect a much warmer, drier summer in the UK this year, more similar to the summers observed during the 2002 to 2006 period."
Back in 2006, Britain enjoyed its hottest summer for 500 years, with the mercury hitting 101.3F (38.5C).'

I knew there was an O in it Grin

& I remember 2006 now - we were on holiday in Norfolk & it was so hot I nearly passed out at the zoo Shock

Remember everyone:

Whan that aprill with his shoures soote
The droghte of march hath perced to the roote

April is supposed to be shit. Chaucer said so.

Chubfuddler · 25/04/2012 15:25

March winds
April showers
Bring forth May flowers

That's what I was told as a child.

Smellslikecatspee · 25/04/2012 15:37

I know we need the rain, but me & boy cat are going to seriously fall out at this rate.

He does actually mind a bit of rain, but as this is so heavy hes nearly getting knocked over.

So hes spending his time either loudly complaining, jumping on me, or looking for mischief.

AngryFeet · 25/04/2012 15:43

Oh bloody hell. I have a 3 day camping trip booked with 10 other people booked for May bank holiday weekend in SE. It will not be fun with torrential rain. Can't get money back now so will just have to suck it up and hope for the best.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 25/04/2012 15:48

The noa can't really be forecast so far in advance ( though some organisations will try!) but it is true that a strongly positive noa is in general associated with above average summer temps for northern Europe and it has on the whole been positive so far this year. Fingers crossed!

It will be boiling this summer

As the saying goes:
Crap spring = good summer has in no way made this up.

youarekidding · 25/04/2012 16:25

I remember 2006 being lovely. I moved back from Tenerife in the July to live and thought at least the summers would still be good. Then 2007 came and I was reminded that isn't always the case Grin

I am soaked. And cold. I had to strap the kids in the car in stages as it pelted it down. Did DS1. DD had left her door open so her seat was wet. Went to strap DS2 in. Had to wait for the hail stones to pass. Decided I might as will just man up and get DD straped in too. ALl ready to go, kids snack in boot.Back out in the wet stuff. All home. 2 out of 3 have had a shower and are in dry clothes. Not sure 3 has had a chower but he is in dry stuff. Poor cat came out for 1 minute and I had to towel dry her Shock.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 25/04/2012 18:14

I like that saying Ariel!

How revolting justfab.

Another day, another set of warnings
Was aware of the rain through much of the night.

OP posts:
youarekidding · 26/04/2012 07:37

I woke up to it here. Sun is trying to break through now though Smile

Ponders · 26/04/2012 10:10

Blue sky & sun in E Lancs at the moment.

Must be a mistake

TheHumancatapult · 26/04/2012 13:19

Stansted airport way is sun for a few followed y horrendus rain showers and then repeat and sometimes just for varation both at same time

abitcoldupnorth · 26/04/2012 13:46

I am vair fed up of this. That week in March, with 22 degrees up here, tempted all the lovely spring blossom out and now it's all wrecked.

But I have got my garden fork into the ground.

But now it's like digging chocolate pudding.

And it's an easterly, with hail today Sad

youarekidding · 26/04/2012 14:09

Sun here, fairly pleasant............... then we're pitched into darkness, rain literally falls out the sky like someones tipped a bucket over, then sun comes out again.

Got the windows open in the flat, very windy and trying to air it, doors are banging but it is not cold iyswim?

It's not as windy as yesterday though - I'd had a shower and left the bathroom window open to dry it out air it. I heard DS(7) calling me in a panic - it was so windy he couldn't push the bathroom room shut even with his whole body. Grin

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 26/04/2012 15:54

It's the same here YAK. Walked home from town, as I set off it was tipping down, so I put my waterproof trousers on. 3 minutes later the sun came out and I've ended up half boiled.

Still blowing a Billy bastard - but not a cloud in the sky now Smile

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 27/04/2012 07:39

more warnings today and Sunday looks lively for some with a Storm passing over southern counties.

Today there's a reasonable risk that funnel clouds may develop over parts of the south.

OP posts:
youarekidding · 27/04/2012 08:01

Funnel clouds? as in mini tornados?

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 27/04/2012 08:13

As in the early stages of a tornadoes development - yes :)
There were 3 potential actual tornadoes on Wednesday (in the interesting weather thread)

OP posts:
youarekidding · 27/04/2012 08:33

Is it wrong that I'm actually looking out the window sporadically watching the clouds?! We had one in 2002 - the one I linked to in the other thread.

abitcoldupnorth · 27/04/2012 09:15

Sun! Grin first time we've seen the bastard for about a week.

And wind has moved round. But it's still only 4C - I think about the same as Christmas Day Hmm

GloriaSmud · 27/04/2012 09:49

Another day and yet more rain here (Leicester.) The car's temp guage said it was 7C earlier and when I look out, all that can be seen are dark grey clouds, it's like a sheet of grey!

I was thinking, as I was sitting in the car during the school run watching the rain fall yet again, that this is the sort of thing they'll have a good laugh about mention on those 'Review of the Year' TV programmes at the end of the year. I can hear the narration now, 'in April, the water companies declared half the country was under drought conditions and then it did nothing but rain for the next 6 months.' Or something like that!
