flood warnings from the environment agency. Those close to rivers in the SW should pay particular heed as sveral are likely to break their banks.

Well personally i am glad for the rain as it means my back will get a break from digging up the garden. However, the start of the mud patch were I am part way into the work is definitely going to upset a few of the most sensitive anally retentive neighbours. It looks really bad out there but I can do anything with it with this rain and tbh i don't like looking at it either.

youarekidding · 25/04/2012 13:18

Our area has not got flood warnings yet!. Its tidal so sometimes if the weathers against us but the tides aren't we're just about safe. Grin

Ponders · 25/04/2012 13:19

what about June then, kitten?

I saw something online yesterday (can't find it now, grrr) from some weather professional who mentioned that a particular bit of weathery stuff - not the jet stream - is in the same position now that it was in 2006? & that was a hot June so this should be too?

I don't remember anything about June 2006, & I can't remember what the weathery stuff was called (I think it had an O in it Grin) - any ideas?

Chubfuddler · 25/04/2012 13:20

Haven't we got some fabulously named rivers in this country though? Otter, Axe, Wriggle Grin

Sorry as you were.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 25/04/2012 13:23

Ponders, I've no idea I'm afraid, beyond my knowledge! Though this is what June 06 was like.

Which year was it when it rained all summer? 2009?

Ponders · 25/04/2012 13:42

thanks, kitten Smile

I'll have to keep looking then. I think it was in the Huffington Post but I can't find it now

Marne · 25/04/2012 13:45

It has been horrid here today (SW), our road is flooded (luckily it doesn't reach our front door), i went out this morning and the roads were like rivers (back roads were flooded), sun came out for 5 minutes and then it returned to rain and wind. Have had enough of this rain now, i want to get out in the garden and enjoy some sun Sad.

pepperrabbit · 25/04/2012 14:03

I've just ordered some waterproof trousers for the school run, so it should be bikini weather as soon as they're delivered.....

Fimbo · 25/04/2012 14:06

Some drivers I think take pleasure in soaking us pedestrians. If the road is clear on either side then does it really take much to not hit the puddles at speed, it's not like they are not obvious. [cross]

WhispersOfWickedness · 25/04/2012 14:14

This weather is crazy! We installed a 1000 litre waterbutt 10 days ago and it is now full Shock

Have my fingers crossed for a better summer, I sorted out all the dc's summer clothes just as the good weather stopped Hmm Angry

Chubfuddler · 25/04/2012 14:16

2007 was the summer it rained. I blamed Gordon Brown.

Marne · 25/04/2012 14:16

My green house has just blown over (just a small plasic one) and all my seedlings are ruined Sad, i'm not happy, this weather is nasty, when will it end?

youarekidding · 25/04/2012 14:18

Thanks for the heads up re lidl and waterproofs. My DS needs some trousers - I have some and feel quite guilty he doesn't Blush (in my defense he has an all-in-one snow suit thing but he won't wear it cos it's not cool! (he's 7!)

youarekidding · 25/04/2012 14:20

chub you're making me laugh today thanks. And yes it was 2007. I had planned and so decided to still have a gathering of friends in the woods for DS 3rd birthday. We managed to pick a day when it wasn't actually pissing it down. But we did get lost and ended up knee deep in mud - with pushchairs aswell. Grin

We remember it as one of the funniest birthdays any of our children have had.

Fortunately this April is nothing like April 2007 which was Very dry and warm. It was however followed by a very wet May (and June/July)

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 25/04/2012 15:15

Are you a good swimmer mooncup?

OP posts:
ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 25/04/2012 15:21

Wrong kind of rain apparently. It's so hard that it's just pouring into rivers and down to the sea and is doing very little to alleviate drought.

No consolation for anything.

PimpMyTunnel · 25/04/2012 15:21

I knew where the term April showers came from but it is really living up to its name this year! I would get dd some waterproofs but it will just be my luck that the rain will stop and the sun will come out. In fact im pissed off that we had such nice weather last month because I bought dd a whole new wardrobe of summer clothes but atm she's living in her winter clothes still.
