Before I started weaning my twins, I read about BLW and thought it looked like an amazing idea.

When I tried it I found my darling LOs didn't pick up a single thing never mind get it into the mouths.

So now I puree food and spoonfeed them and they are eating massive amounts and loving it - and sleeping all night!

So I thought I'd start a thread for others who are doing the same as me - we can swap ideas for meals and say what works for us (ie what makes them sleep ).

I gave my twins four plums plus ebm and baby rice for breakfast and they have had a big bowl of sweet potato, haricot beans and brocolli for lunch. More of the same for tea (plus maybe some swede and parsnip). They are 6.5mths old.

What did yours eat today?

Thanks for the calculation neenz. Honestly, I wanted to use cloth nappies from the beginning but didn't get my act together, and then thought I'd wait until things got easier. Ha! And well done to your big eaters! That's fab.

Anyway, dd is 8.5 months, and is generally ok on two naps if her post-lunch nap lasts until 2:30pm. That wasn't the case today, but we didn't get home until 5pm. I reckoned she would have slept in her buggy if she was tired. Well I was wrong! I'm expecting to hear from her tonight as she ate so little at tea. Then again, she's exhausted. Hmmm...

bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2009 09:21

I think nursery really knackers them out sometimes mookickkick. DS hardly ate anything at teatime yesterday.

I'm not sure if I give DS enough for his tea when he's been to nursery, but he has a decent lunch when he's there as well as morning and afternoon snacks. REally must get him weighed again because he wasn't putting on much weight before. If he's on a steady curve then I guess he's getting enough.

whinegums · 21/03/2009 11:00

DQ - what do they give as snacks at nursery - looking for ideas, all suggestions welcome of course!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2009 11:24

Raisins, chunks of bread/butter, grapes, segments/slices of fruit, rice cakes etc. All the usual suspects. It always seems to be finger type stuff though and I've noticed that his pincer grip thingy is really coming along. I've started giving him raisins at home and seem to be going well.

I bought some mini-oatcakes at home and they've been going down ok. Can put philadelphia or spread with other mushy type foods. Quite hand ATM if we're all trying to eat together after work/nursery as I can give him some to eat while I eat!

giantkatestacks · 21/03/2009 12:59

30 nappies neenz? blimey - as I say I've only got 12 and did you really get away with 5 disposables a day on a purely bf baby? I must be particularly unlucky in that dept then oh and with the motherease you can calculate on getting half the cost back on ebay once you're done as they keep their value so well...the washing thing I dont really understand as well cos ours would on everyday as it is what with uniforms and baby clothes and whatnot and it all goes in together.

mookickkick - I found with my ds that we had to change our routine completely on nursery days because of the big tea they used to give him at 4.30/5pm - I like to do dinner altogether about 6pm then I didnt/wont give any milk to go to bed with - strange I know but it worked with my ds and I didnt want him being a real cows milk monster. Anyway on nursery days that all went out the window cos he had eaten too early to go to bed without anything and yet was too full for a proper dinner arrgh.

whinegums · 21/03/2009 13:46

Cheers DQ, so nothing out of the ordinary, don't know why I thought there might be special nursery snacks!!!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2009 13:56

Did you think that AK did a secret nursery snacks book?

I've got 15 cloth nappies. I usually wash every 2 days when I have a full load and that works out just nicely. DS is in disposables at night though ATM as he's a bit inbetween sizes in wraps. I've switched my trusty size 1 ME velcro wraps to the well recommended size 2 ME popper wraps but they're just a wee bit big, and the size 1's are way too small.

mookickkick · 21/03/2009 14:24

bdq - did your ds sleep well last night? as i suspected, dd woke for milk at 11pm and then at 5:30am. got away with shushing at 3am. thank goodness. what do you give for tea on nursery days?

dropped the morning bf today, gave 140 ml formula at 10:30. then wasn't hungry at lunchtime (11:30) but slept well. something tells me the whole routine needs fine-tuning. thanks kate for the warning! i just worry she'll be too knackered and won't eat well after nursery, and will need those dreaded night feeds again.

neenztwinz · 21/03/2009 14:29

Yeah I suppose 30 nappies is a lot for one baby! WRT a BFed baby, at first I think they go through more like 7/8 nappies a day but as they get older it goes down to 4 or even 3 if in disposables so saying 5 a day was a bit of a happy medium. I always wash my nappies separate from everything else - I feel a bit icky to put them in with other things and I always wash them at 60C. Actually, having juyst received my electricity bill, maybe I should be washing at 40C after all. What do you think?

Interesting the nursery talk - I think my two will go to nursery (can't seem to find a CM who has space for both - or is brave enough to take both ) but we are going to ask PILs to pick them up at 4.30 and give them tea, then DH can pick them up at 6.30 and bring them home for bathtime.

OP posts:
bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2009 15:19

40C is fine neenz! I do a rinse or pre-wash in my machine (with no powder) then do a 40C wash. Every now and again I run them through at 60C (because its good for your machine).

I thought he slept fine last night but DH says otherwise. Now, he was in our bed this morning so he definitely woke up at some point. Oh, yep, he woke at 3, and I brought him into bed. I was dog tired as was working on something very late last night and needed to be up early to carry on this morning.

Tea after nursery... it varies. A portion of some concoction and some finger food to go along with it. I never really think about food/sleep associations tbh.

giantkatestacks · 21/03/2009 16:30

I just put my nappies in at 40 with the rest of my stuff - if they are dirty then they go on their own on a 60 but we have solids that now all get caught in the liner iyswim.

we tried some cows milk again at the midafternoon feed - dd took half and then I gave her a little bf as well...tsk.

bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2009 20:40

Another idea for nappies is to run them through a rinse or pre wash cycle first, then if you don't have a full load chuck some other clothes in too. Just remember to use half the powder. Actually since using cloth I've really got into the habit of using half the powder all the time and clothes still sparkly clean!

neenztwinz · 22/03/2009 20:14

Yeah non bio is crap anyway so I don't bother with lots of it.

Washed the nappies at 40C and they were fine so will def do that all time now.

Hi all - dd had a lovely roast chicken dinner today - the first time shes eaten loads of meat on its own like that (in normal sized chunks) apart from liver. She really went for it - I dont know if this means that she's lacking protein but it was quite frightening...she looked a bit like Henry VIII though this has less to do with the chicken in her hand and more to do with her

bitofadramaqueen · 22/03/2009 20:55

That's great gks. I've been feeding ds full of food all afternoon and he still ate his tea so thinking I need to feed him more! DH is away overnight so fingers crossed for good nights sleep!

mookickkick · 23/03/2009 09:00

morning all.

how'd it go last night bdq?

kate - henry viii huh? i guess she needs her protein!!!

dd had beetroot last night. initially really liked it but went off after a few spoonfuls. whatever. i did notice some hyperactivity before bed but that could have been anything. then woke up at 11pm and needed a long shushing (no feed though ). woke again at 6am but a quick feed later she sort of sleep some more.

this morning dd became territorial over her tray. if i or dh place a hand on it, she moves it away. anyone else notice this kind of behaviour??

neenztwinz · 23/03/2009 13:48

No not noticed that Mookick, although the DTs do steal food/spoon/beakers off each other's high chair trays.

Am I being thick - I didn't get the Henry VIII comparison..? Sounds like your DD enjoyed her tea though Kate, I always remeber you saying you are stingy with the protein tho so maybe she does need more! I have beem giving my two less on your recommendation and it is working fine.

DS is off his food at the moment, he has a cold, but he is still sleeping well, and that is all that matters to me lol.

OP posts:
giantkatestacks · 23/03/2009 14:28

Its just that stereotypical image of Henry VIII sitting down to dinner with a leg of chicken in one hand and a tankard in the other - my dd does remind me of that image though am not sure it was the chicken that did it - more the shape of dds face ahem...

mookickkick · 23/03/2009 19:13

kate, i hope your dd doesn't have a ginger beard? and then there's what's his name, the steward of gondor in the lord of the rings movie, eating like a savage in front of that hobbit. [why oh why have i forgotten all their names?]

giantkatestacks · 23/03/2009 19:26

I farking hate hobbits...

[realises this is not a statement strictly about weaning/purees]

mookickkick · 24/03/2009 08:28

It wouldn't be the first time we've strayed off topic

neenztwinz · 24/03/2009 13:33

lol - I get it now! You don't give her a tankard of beer too do you?

OP posts:
artifarti · 24/03/2009 14:39

Hello all. Eating not going so well here as DS is teething again and just wants to chomp on the spoon, bowl, bib etc. But sleep seems to be improving, although we are now getting up at silly o'clock (4.45 this morning) and this only adding to the teething grumpiness.

I cannot get him to love yoghurt for the life of me which is a pain. But chicken and fish going down well (but, oh, those coddy poos, they are the pits...)

Have a glut of parsnips at the moment - would they work with cheese do you think?

neenztwinz · 24/03/2009 16:41

My two love parsnips - they are not keen on cheese though, so don't know if they would work together.

Yes the cod nappies are horrid!

My DD just pulled herself up to standing for the first time and I didn;t see it cos I was on here! That will teach me for MNing when I should be playing with the DTs.
