If the children to whom you refer aren't 85 (at least), it's not all that bright a statement.

That's all.

I didn't see it, Tiktok - I was shocked though - the thought that a thread I'd posted had caused you to write something deletable! I went hot and cold!

We were late with most of hers, even after they had adjusted it! I can't remember when they were done though.

Oh it must of been a personal attack tiktok. Something you said about f/f or b/f or weaning made someone feel bad?

Beachcomber · 26/10/2008 23:27

You are quite right HoochieMomma about benefits of BF.

I also did hardcore exclusion diet but unfortunately without the support of GP and allergist (they are French and a bit behind the times, thought I was a total loon to follow diet in order to keep BF).

Will contact you.

Right, really off to bed this time. Good night folks.

mabanana · 26/10/2008 23:27

Hunkermunker, you say, "It's a risk thing. You have a higher risk of x, y and z if you are formula-fed than breastfed." Sorry, but that completely depends on what x,y and z are. If you mean allergies, then that's just not that simple. In some cases (ie when the mother has allergies), breastfeeding actually seems in some studies to increase the risk. And no study can demonstrate any long term risks of allergy or asthma from the use of formula (or protection from breastfeeding, depending on how you want to put it).

I was also interested in the new study on the DOUBLING of risk of asthma when first vaccinations were given at 2months instead of four months. I am sure this will trigger more research -at least I hope so.

mabanana · 26/10/2008 23:32

link to study, which was a big one

ewwwmy2shoesarefullofblood · 26/10/2008 23:33

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/10/2008 23:40

Make sure you dont tell her "it didnt do me/mine any harm"

hunkermunker · 26/10/2008 23:41

I was going to post similarly, Tiktok - how odd!

Mabanana, take x, y and z to mean whatever you want. I didn't say or imply I meant allergies.

Beachcomber · 26/10/2008 23:41

Mabanana I have read stuff that shows BF to actually be a part of the problem. This makes me sick BTW.

NOT BECAUSE BF IN ITSELF CARRIES ANY RISKS.

Rather because vaccination with pertussis (the P in DTP) increases gut permeability. The adjuvants in the vaccine prime the immune system to be on the look out for foreign proteins and to mount an antibody response to those proteins.

Food proteins pass into breast milk in an entirely natural manner but in the susceptible child whose gut has been damaged through vaccination (plus any other baseline triggers such as pre existing intolerance) and whose immune system has been primed to react, the child's immune system mounts an antibody response.

The above = allergy to common food stuffs that mum was eating at the time of vaccination.

This is the simple version, the actual science is very complicated and there are other factors involved and other vaccines have been implicated. I have just read up on DTP because it is the vaccine that my DD reacted to.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/10/2008 23:42

Have you reported it?

Go on...

JodieO · 26/10/2008 23:42

Tiktok I saw that post and I can't for the life of me understand why that was deleted when nearly every thread I open has far worse in it.

I'm still amazed at some of the things people believe regarding bf and weaning and how resistant they appear to be of anything they didn't do, even though it goes against studies and guidelines. I've been on both sides with my 3 dc's and I can see what's better for them, in regards of what research says and not just some mistaken belief of, "Mother knows best", or, "If mum's happy then baby's happy". Bull.

ewwwmy2shoesarefullofblood · 26/10/2008 23:43

VeniVidiVickiQV no I will let her mum say that, I just like to not put my foot in it, but i did do it and ds is fine.........ds has cp but however I weaned or fed her she would still have had that.

Beachcomber · 26/10/2008 23:45

I posted link to article about DTP/asthma link earlier in this thread.

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1079259/A-vaccine-given-babies-increase-risk-childhood-asthma.htm l

I already apologised about it coming from the DM!

mabanana · 26/10/2008 23:47

a commentary on the study with interesting caveats
Hunker, the point is the statement It's a risk thing. You have a higher risk of x, y and z if you are formula-fed than breastfed." simply makes no sense at all unless you say what x, y and z are.
