...what comes out in the poo of a baby you are weaning

Background we have just started baby led weaning my daughter on to limited solids.
Click here for pictures of her first meal

As we EC our daughter, we catch her poo in a potty and I have noticed that whatever food I put in one end of our baby is coming out pretty intact at the other end, except banana which seems to result in a very vile glope. In total her behaviour and wee/poo seems fairly normal apart from this addtional food component.

Tell me this is normal..please.

We use trainer pants as a back to ECing and they are sooo cute.

Been meaning to say, you are absolutely right about the horridness of that carpet...

BabiesEverywhere · 01/03/2007 13:23

my mum effectively did EC in the 70s with us. we wore terry nappies but spent a lot of time out of them. she claims to see a shiver when dd pees but i'm not sufficiently tuned in to see that.
there was a great article in the guardian here that talks about what happens in countries where people can't afford disposables or washing machines... surprise surprise the children are dry from the age of one. it makes me feel like a bit of a wanker for being taken in by nappy companies, tbh.
dd is 14 months and thinks her potty is handy for climbing up and onto the coffee table. not sure how we're going to make the 'you have to poo in it darling' leap, tbh.

morningpaper · 01/03/2007 13:23

Duuuuuuuuuuude she is CUUUUTE

CUTE

CUTE CUTE CUTE

BabiesEverywhere · 01/03/2007 13:24

I know, I seriously debated about buying this house because I hate the carpet THAT much.

On the plus side it will hide anything like play doh later on and as I hate it, I am not fuss about it either.

Thanks MP, I think she is a doll

PCBA,

Thanks for the link I'll read it. Sadly Pampers are trying to break into the ECing countries like Indian/china and they are 'educating' the local mums. Telling them that it is unclean to let their babies wee in a toilet/potty it is cleaner to have a disposal nappy on...FFS. How can it be cleaner, to wear your toilet if it is not needed. !!!

You should see what Floam looks like when it comes out the other end... a suspected threadworm infestation looks far more appealing

BabiesEverywhere · 01/03/2007 13:29

What is Floam ?

Oh yes - and wax crayons make for interesting nappy moments!

I remember reading that article

A lot of people think that you have to be super-tuned-in and hovering with a potty to early train - but that HAS to be wrong. I can't believe that our grandparents/great-grandparents who probably had 14 children to worry about were obsessively hovering with a potty all day. It is a skill we have lost

SoupDragon · 01/03/2007 13:31

Little polystyrene balls in a coloured, er, dough I guess. The coloured bit disappears en route through the digestive system eaving just the balls... Coloured sand is interesting too but my favourite is those stick on googly eyes for craft things.

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 01/03/2007 13:32

please, BE, call me Aitch. changed name on a whim the other day.

in the article they talk about china, apparently all the baby clothes have cute little pee flaps...

and you know, if you think back to old illuatrations of baby clothes (okay, in cartoons...) they do tend to have that big back flap with the buttons. i wonder if that was for easy access so as to save on laundry?

and your dd is a darling, by the way. but i can't see the carpet. or the poo.

I think the EC thing sounds fab, but don't see the signs of when DD is doing the do at the moment.

And given the problems someone had (MP was it you?) with nursery not letting their lo go when she asked, and my LO is about to go to nursery 3 days a week....

I am v impressed though

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 01/03/2007 13:33

LOL morningpaper. you should tell my mum... she's the one who says i'm not tuned in. bloody 70s supermum and all that.

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 01/03/2007 13:34

oh that HAT! i love it littlelapin. dd would claw that off her head in a second.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/03/2007 13:38

oh she is GORGEOUS!!!!!!

Aitch - alot of children (and adults ) do the shiver thing.

But some just dont at all. Its a bit individual.

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 01/03/2007 13:38

it is your own creation?!

BabiesEverywhere · 01/03/2007 13:38

I don't think I hover over the potty too much, do I CF ? Not sure as it is just part of the daily routine, so I don't think about it.
I am simply lazy as I have pottied and NAK my DD whilst writing on this thread, less work than heating bottles and changing dirty nappies ;)

Aitch, Yes, I'm looking at making some of those spilt crotch pants for the house when she is older, so she can take herself to the potty.

LL, Your boy is so handsome, love the photos.

Gilly, You can EC part time, baby gets it.Just like mum will breastfeed me, everyone else bottle feeds me. Baby can learn home means potty, whilst nursery means nappy.

CheesyFeet · 01/03/2007 13:39

I meant my (non-EC'd) dd's shit

not required for BE's dd

unfortunately my carpet is less poo friendly though

littlelapin, your ds is beautiful

CheesyFeet · 01/03/2007 13:40

Not at all BE

You spend less time with a potty than I did with flippin refusenik dd

I was surprised at how easy it was for you

Esp when you get your dh to empty it

BabiesEverywhere · 01/03/2007 13:40

Gilly should of been Jilly

LOL, you'll need that placard for DC2, so look after it ;)
