I'm 55 and got a meta quest 3 for Christmas! What do I do with it?

I'm excited to have this but would love some pointers about what I might enjoy and how to use it. The only game I've heard of is gorilla tag and don't think that's for me...

Current hobbies are language learning, Pilates, cinema, travel, books. I also like casual games on my iPad and just started Zelda on switch lite.

There is SO much you can do on it!

Lots of exercise programs, a really good national geographic thing that I forget the name of, and of course the games.

Have a Google, maybe search up top 50 games?

Lucky you! I got my 3s for my 62nd birthday in August and am now a Fit XR addict (and a lot fitter for it!) – boxing is my favourite. I tried it for piano lessons but not as successful.

There is a game called ‘ job simulator’ it’s great, you work in a shop serving people or in a cafe cooking up their orders or you can try your hand a being a car mechanic.

mismomary · 27/12/2025 22:25

Oooh I'd love to use it for fitness and learning. National Geographic sounds interesting too. And job simulator sounds my kind of thing too! Thank you!

I thought about looking up top games but just didn't think they would be relevant to me - thought meta quest users are mainly teenagers. Perhaps wrongly.

Definitely exercise! My favourites are tennis and also Fit XR. I’ve actually got the beginnings of biceps as a result.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 28/12/2025 08:56

Get Elite Dangerous. Caution: may cause no-life syndrome.

mismomary · 28/12/2025 10:24

Tennis I've always wanted to play but I'm hopeless so I'm definitely going to have a go at that in VR.

Risking my life in Elite Dangerous .... less convinced!

Get Beat Saber - it's a really fun game and also great exercise.

AlbertCampion · 28/12/2025 18:48

If you like mysteries or puzzles then The Room is fantastic.

mismomary · 29/12/2025 06:05

Thank you. We have been no tech for a couple of days so I'm hoping to unbox today. Best Saber and The Room also now on my list.

Wander is basically Google earth but in 3d, you can go anywhere.
FitXR is great.
Download the game Moss.

JessicaPeach · 29/12/2025 07:57

We bought one for my ds for Christmas, DH was saying there’s something similar to Google Earth but set up for vr where you can walk around almost anywhere on earth!

JessicaPeach · 29/12/2025 07:58

Oh I’ve just realised you just suggested that @SwallowsandAmazonians! Is it good?

BeardOToots · 29/12/2025 09:11

I bought mine for work (I paint murals and it’s great for layouts).
There is a game called Fly, which is basically Google Earth, but you can fly around anywhere in the world. Everyone I’ve shown it to has loved it.

Oops! Seems everyone beat me to this!

Ncforthis2244 · 29/12/2025 09:46

Don't write off Gorilla Tag! It's an excellent workout and very addictive. I always finish up dripping in sweat.

You just have to be handy with the mute button as it's full of sweary squeakys!

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 29/12/2025 10:13

Fit xr is very cool!

mismomary · 29/12/2025 17:09

Well I'm unboxed and have done the tutorials. Looked at lots of the games you suggested - thank you. At a panto tomorrow but New Year's Eve will see me download my first app / game. I've looked at immerse too for language learning- has anyone tried this?

One here this Christmas as well and still trying to get my head around it. So far I like the fitness apps but can’t get Fitness Fables to actually do anything!

mathanxiety · 29/12/2025 17:54

I got one two years ago and it has sat in its box ever since. Need to take a look at it...

mismomary · 31/12/2025 12:19

2nd beat sabre, so much fun and great exercise. I am in my 50's.
I also love exploring the word with Google earth. I went to many far away places in lockdown 😂

Interpink · 31/12/2025 12:22

We have prime and Netflix on ours. When I can wrestle it off my teens, I sit in bed and binge watch dross on it. It’s like being at the cinema.

ThreeSixtyTwo · 31/12/2025 12:24

My mum likes the 360 movies - like Mount Everest walk

And beat saber is all ages.
