I'm 55 and got a meta quest 3 for Christmas! What do I do with it?

I'm excited to have this but would love some pointers about what I might enjoy and how to use it. The only game I've heard of is gorilla tag and don't think that's for me...

Current hobbies are language learning, Pilates, cinema, travel, books. I also like casual games on my iPad and just started Zelda on switch lite.

Hmmm ok I will have another look at beat sabre, thanks snowdrops. I did look briefly but didn't fancy just drumming to Coldplay. Maybe that bit is just an add on.

Ohhh interpink I hadn't considered Netflix! Haven't got a tv upstairs so watching in bed rather tempting!

It’s so good!

I somehow clicked “record” and so my kids could see a recording of me watching why they call “ladymum crap” and swigging from my wine glass, laughing! 😝

But yes, cinema nights are ace, tons better than watching on the telly!

I love walk the plank for quick family fun! It’s a really good starter initiative and it feels horribly real!

SwankyPants · 31/12/2025 17:56

Is the meta quest 3s just as good and the 3?
Do you need the max storage?

SilverShadowNight · 31/12/2025 22:35

I love Beat Saber too, but following for other suggestions.

So I am loving my meta quest!!

First I downloaded The Room which is fantastic.

Second I started a trial of immerse for learning Spanish but I'm not 100% sure it's for me. Not completed a full lesson yet as got bored.

Third priority was a fitness app. Fit XR looks amazing but I'm really not keen on monthly subscriptions. But I found PowerBeats and have bought that. SO FUN! And only £9.99 at the moment.

Next I'm getting Wander. But biding my time.

Climb 2 also looks good.

Thank you all for helping me get started.

I'm going to look at this - especially if others can join in!

To the PP who recommended THE ROOM - thank you - obsessed!

Get the seventh guest. Lots of puzzle rooms. Very absorbing and beautiful to look at.

I have a couple of quests and me and husbands do espace rooms together. Rooms of reality atm.

gamerchick · 03/01/2026 18:58

And if you haven't already. Get a comfort strap with a battery for extra time. The strap that comes with it, isn't fit for anything.

SwankyPants · 03/01/2026 19:01

Ive been sucked in and bought one. I had been thinking about it for a while but reading this convinced me.
I did Pop and Ride. That made me feel sick though.
Daughter is playing 5 Nights at Freddys

CatsLikeBoxes · 03/01/2026 19:10

Another vote for beat saber - there are different types of music and you can buy music packs - it's not really drumming - it's just surprisingly good fun (and good exercise)
Racket nx I think it's called is fun - similar to playing squash I guess but in a dome, aiming at lit up targets around the walls.
Table tennis is v realistic and fun
I can't do the lift with the plank one - I hate heights and cannot step out of the lift; it makes me feel so weird!
I just use my daughter's now and again but it is very enjoyable.
Even with a better strap I can get a headache though to start with, especially if I haven't used it for a while, so have to build up to using for longer periods.

Omg I think I need one, am 55 too! Need another hobby apart from radio 4 listening..

mismomary · 03/01/2026 21:30

Mmmm ok maybe I will take a leap and get sabre beats thingy. I do need more exercise games.

Frustrated I can't work out how to upload my own music to powerbeatsVR. Loving it otherwise.

@WildUnknown have you done the tutorial?

Go into the office and pull the lever on the slide machine. Then to the desk and open the drawers etc.

Ok I will look into this. Rather like the classics. Wouldn't mind a wander round Pompeii!

Synth Riders is great. One of my favourites.

If you have any friends with one, then doing escape rooms together in Horizons is great fun too (and free).

My mum had a go on Beat Saber on mine, and promptly went out and bought her own headset. She is in her 60s. We play Walkabout Minigolf together.

mismomary · 06/01/2026 22:34

Another vote for beat saber! And mini golf!

Ok my next three apps will be

  • beat saber
  • wander
  • mini golf

I've cancelled the subscription to immerse.

I also downloaded and immediately cancelled Immerse - too expensive

Just started a trial of FitXR - this might actually get me moving - very excited!
