Just that really, I've been playing with my boys since they were 13, 10 and 7 when BOTW came out and we are mega excited :) (eldest is banned until after A Levels though!) It was such a formative experience for them around Gaming and a great bonding experience for us as a family. I have it on pre-order with the Amiibo, that's how sad an ageing nintendo fan girl I am 😄Anyone else?

Me me me!

Tomrrowandtomorrowandtommorrow · 14/04/2023 00:20

My Zelda obsessed 15 Yr old daughter is! She showed me the trailer today with a level of pride normally seen in new parents.

SmartHome · 14/04/2023 00:22

Yes we all gathered for a special screening of the new trailer round my monitor today :)

So nice to hear others are sharing in the excitement.

Botw is still on my to list of games! (delayed until I can figure out how to install cemu emulator so I can play on pc before buying it). I'm a huge fan of family bonding through gaming....currently reading a great book called "Universal Play" by Alexander Kriss in case you're interested!

SmartHome · 14/04/2023 00:35

Thats sounds interesting, I'll check it out. Honestly, the hours we've spent on the BOTW over the years together (and other Wii/Switch games). Initially I had to help them but now we have our areas of specialism - they are (obviously) better at the fighting and boss levels than me and I help more with the puzzle elements. They do their own PS and PC gaming where I dont get a look in but the humble Nintendo Switch (and Wii/WiiU before it) has given us so many hours of play and discussion and, crucially, something in common over the years. I know not all parents were gamers themselves but it is nice that, in one area at least, they respect me and bow to my superior knowledge. 😆

Me! I watched the final trailer last night and actually gasped at some points. Riju! Sidon! It looks incredible. Cannot WAIT! When DS2 came home today it was the first thing we talked about. Then we watched the trailer about 6 times!

(I finished Botw ages ago but am currently trying to 100% the koroks, just so I can still pootle around with some purpose. Love it.)

SanFranBear · 14/04/2023 14:20

I cannot BLOODY wait... so excited! Didn't realise there was a new trailer <dashes off to feverishly YouTube!>

SanFranBear · 14/04/2023 14:26

Oh my god Oh my god Oh my god.... it looks sooooo good!

SanFranBear · 14/04/2023 14:30

I also have a very special place in my heart for Skyward Sword as that's the first Zelda game me and the DC played together... well, they were tiny so I played and they told me what to do and how to do it 😄

They're much older now but we're all very excited for the 12th.

Actually, someone here will know... If I leave my Switch on sleep, will it update overnight so I can just wake up, switch on and play?

ForestRun · 14/04/2023 14:46

I have it on pre-order. So excited!!

For anyone waiting, try the immortals fenyx rising. It's similar to zelda 😁

Yes you can download it whilst it's on sleep mode!

SmartHome · 14/04/2023 15:02

Don't know if you're in the Uk or not SanFranBear but there are much cheaper places at the mo here to order it than the nintendo store - either cartridge or digital. I've pre-ordered the cartridge at the moment for £44.99 and it's £59.99 RRP on Nintendo E Shop.

I loved breath of the Wild, and I can't wait for the new game!

SanFranBear · 14/04/2023 15:30

Too late, SmartHome 😆Spent my £60 and was happy to do so!

I'm so excited about the new runes as they look so much more fun and creative! And all the sky stuff.. the whole thing looks just beautiful!

ExplodingLava · 14/04/2023 15:33

I haven’t really been keeping up to date with it, though actually I haven’t kept up with Zelda much since twilight princess. From what I played of botw it was brilliant, it sort of lacked the Zelda charm or “feeling” that I got from previous Zelda games though, and my top three Zelda games are definitely majora’s mask, wind waker and twilight princess 😆

I’m looking more forward to Starfield atm 😁

shockedballoon · 21/04/2023 15:52

Meee toooo! I have it on preorder and me & DS(13) will be right on it as soon as it touches the doormat!

loganfuckingroy · 21/04/2023 16:04

@SmartHome arghhhhh! Where did you pay £45?!

ponygirlcurtis · 21/04/2023 19:19

@loganfuckingroy Curry's are doing 20% off if you preorder.

loganfuckingroy · 21/04/2023 20:20

@ponygirlcurtis amazing!! Thanks 🙏

Gingerlygreen · 07/05/2023 20:09

I've treated myself to a new Oled Switch to play it on my old one keeps telling me to reattach my controllers.

I joined a couple of Zelda Facebook groups but a few of them already have a copy of the game and are posting spoilers so I've left, I want to explore it myself.

What is everyone looking forward to the most?
I always loved spotting a tower in the distance and working my way towards it to unlock the next bit of the map, it was great being able to complete the game in any order instead of being led through it by a storyline.
I've heard Hyrule is going to be a lot bigger in this game.

SquirrelSoShiny · 07/05/2023 20:11

What would be a good Zelda game for a total Zelda noob? I only have a Nintendo Switch.

ponygirlcurtis · 07/05/2023 22:15

@SquirrelSoShiny Breath of the Wild was the first one I played. I am hooked.

@Gingerlygreen I love exploring too, and completing the side quests/shrines. I am less about the fighting! (Quite scared of Lynels...) Can't wait to see what new tasks we get and how it's all set out. My son is the total opposite and fights everything that moves and has barely done half of the side quests. I currently have 881 Koroks and am hoping to 100% tonight. Good timing!

FrazzledHippy · 07/05/2023 22:16

I can't wait, it's like five days until release isn't it? I get paid Thursday too so I'll be splurging 😂

autumnboys · 07/05/2023 22:24

DS2&3 have clubbed together to buy this and they are very excited about it. I am excited for them; they’ve played BOTW so I have heard a lot about side quests. DS3 has been watching loads of reviews and was filling me in on what he’s looking forward to earlier this evening when we were walking together. I hope Friday rolls around quickly for everyone!

Gingerlygreen · 08/05/2023 14:47

@ponygirlcurtis I'm terrified of Lynels! I found them harder to kill than the end boss. It's the way they stop and stare at you.
I agree with you about the fighting too, it was much easier once we had bombs, I'd hide behind a rock and launch them down into a camp to kill the bokoblins.

I'm on a diet at the moment and this game is going to be a great distraction in the evenings when I fancy picking, I hope to be killing the final boss in a pair of size 10 skinny jeans 😆

@SquirrelSoShiny Breath of the Wild is the best one so far but the others have been fun, which console do you have?
I've recently redone Skyward Sword which I enjoyed and Twilight Princess was also good.
BotW is the first open world one though where you work through it in any order you like, the others have structured storylines that lead you through.

It's worth doing Breath of the Wild before the new one though.
There's hundreds of hours of game play.
I found I'd be planning to head off in one direction on a specific task and then get sidetracked by something I passed and end up doing a totally different thing for a couple of hours.

If you buy a physical copy of the game you'll easily sell it afterwards, I paid £50 for BotW and sold it for £45 two years later.

Always loved zelda and Nintendo games, we got botw in lockdown and although I'm poop at gaming me, dh and dd8 play it together.

I can't emphasise how bad i am at gaming, i can barely turn around without getting stuck facing a wall, can never remember what all the buttons do, can't react fast enough etc, but for botw we all sut around the tv and Dh does the fighting, dd does the gathering plants, fish, cooking, talking to people in villages etc, I do navigation, spotting things like korok hiding places, suspicious areas on maps and we all help puzzle solving in the shrines, the mazes etc. So for us it was an all round family entertainment.

Even though we've completed it several times in master mode (dd accidentaly wiped the memory) dd still goes on botw regularly to change her horse's outfits and jump around on top of the giant horse head decorating one of the stables while spotting new horses in the distance.

She got really upset, sobbing with tears when she accidentally killed her favourite horse twice by riding it into fire, we had to go to the horse god to resurrect it twice

As pp mentioned Fenyx is a good game that is similar, the soundtrack is awesome.

Looking forward to tears of the kingdom so much!
