Anyone else excited about Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Just that really, I've been playing with my boys since they were 13, 10 and 7 when BOTW came out and we are mega excited :) (eldest is banned until after A Levels though!) It was such a formative experience for them around Gaming and a great bonding experience for us as a family. I have it on pre-order with the Amiibo, that's how sad an ageing nintendo fan girl I am 😄Anyone else?

Has anyone played it yet?
I won't post spoilers because I don't want to read them myself.

I've had 3 hours on it and am loving it, it's great to be back at the beginning of a Zelda game with hours ahead.

There's a couple of new abilities that I'm finding a bit tricky at the moment but I'm sure they'll soon be second nature.

bookworm14 · 12/05/2023 12:32

I can’t wait! I adored Breath of the Wild and kept putting off completing it because I was enjoying it so much. Have to wait until I get paid next week to buy TOTK though - I know 60 quid is standard for new games now but it seems so expensive!

Gingerlygreen · 12/05/2023 14:38

It is expensive but think of how many hours of entertainment you'll get for that, you could easily spend £60+ on one evening out with food and drinks.

I sold my BotW after I'd completed it twice and got nearly all of my money back.

cookielove · 12/05/2023 14:42

I have found my people, i love botW, game play is amazing.

I am trying to get all the korok seeds, i think i have 80 left 😅

SquirrelFeed · 12/05/2023 14:44

Not read thread yet. I’m 100% complete on Botw. Totk is due in less than an hour. Can’t wait!

Attictroll · 12/05/2023 14:46

I have just got home with a copy of tears of the kingdom....have gone halves on cost with Ds. I have promised I won't open until he is back from school....it's killing me 😂

I was going to hold back because of cost but decided it was inevitable and ds finishes his SATs today so it's a treat for that too

yogacushions · 12/05/2023 14:52

Please help! I am playing Breath of the wild and I love but I am so bad a firing arrows. Why does Link fire backwards sometimes? And then if I turn frontward he still fired backwards !!!! Arrghhhhh I am on a smaller switch with no pro controller.

Trying to kill a black hinox. I have managed it but used all my arrows and fairy lives so keep re doing.

also is there a good ámbio to get for BOTW ?

ToK1 · 12/05/2023 16:44

Play with ds and we're very excited.

Got ours today and have started it.

So far so similar to botw...

ICanDoIt23 · 12/05/2023 17:06

Ooh I forgot it was today! Do I need to buy a physical copy or can I download from the Nintendo store?

ponygirlcurtis · 12/05/2023 20:56

I am sharing our game with DS2 so I let him have first go and watched him for an hour or so. Forgot how frustrating he was - kept trying to hit the npc in the opening (won't dish spoilers). Now he's in bed and I'm about to start and I feel like I'm cheating on Breath of the Wild! 🤣 I 100%ed it, I just loved it so much. I really hope I like TotK!

@yogacushions I usually use a bomb arrow to the eye for Hinoxes.

ponygirlcurtis · 12/05/2023 20:57

@ICanDoIt23 you should be able to download, although I did read on Twitter they had sold out of digital copies - how does that even work? 😳 Might have been fake news.

Marths · 12/05/2023 21:01

Pre-ordered it but it was only dispatched today so if it doesn't come tomorrow I have to wait until after work on Monday 😭

First World problems I know.

Neverthinkjustdo · 12/05/2023 21:03

Tbh I want it to return to it's old days like majoras mask. All this openworld stuff is fine...when they fill it.

I want a return to npcs. Character quests. Towns. Personality.

ToK1 · 12/05/2023 21:09

@ponygirlcurtis

I've had to make ds take it upstairs lol

But now I'm sat twiddling my thumbs waiting for my turn.

FrazzledHippy · 12/05/2023 22:25

I'm about three hours in, enjoying it so far. The landscape is taking a bit of getting used to though!

shockedballoon · 12/05/2023 23:56

Watched DS play then had a go myself when he was off at Scouts. I love it so far - seems the right amount of familiar from botw but with the new clever game mechanics.Me & DS were positively hyped when we fired it up 😁😁

Gingerlygreen · 13/05/2023 17:41

I'm at the stage where I feel like all I'm doing is getting killed over and over again by bokoblins because my weapons are rubbish and I have so few hearts.

I nearly gave up on BotW because of the same thing early on so I need to focus on shrines for a while to get more hearts.

shockedballoon · 13/05/2023 21:47

@Gingerlygreen use fuse to make your weapons stronger, use rocks and Amber and monster parts etc. It's like there are almost no rules, it's amazing!

Glwysen · 16/05/2023 11:10

I’ve been playing too much ps5 - the buttons all feel like they are round the wrong way!!

ForestRun · 16/05/2023 11:34

If you fuse topaz with a sword, you will get an electric weapon. It's pretty good. Also if you go near the woodland stable and just to the right you will see smoke. Go and speak to the 2 guys there and do the muskas treasure quests. You will get the diety armour and sword which can then be upgraded at the fairy's.

If anyone needs help, just ask me and I'll help!! I've completed all zelda games so I'd like to hope I can help you all!

ForestRun · 16/05/2023 11:36

To add, the Diety armour is one of the best in the game!

If you need help getting the master sword, let me know and I'll help! The master sword is unbreakable and one of the best.

LostaraYil · 16/05/2023 22:25

Yep the abilities are taking a bit of concentration ATM, but I'm loving it! Damn real life for getting in the way, I've only managed a few hours so far. DS 18 is also banned until his AS exams are finished, I'm hoping to get way ahead by then to avoid spoilers but I'll probably need his help eventually with the boss fights.

GardenGnomic · 17/05/2023 22:09

Hmm... I've played about 10 hours now. Am avoiding going to Rito village where I know there's a temple (TotK divine beast) and it feels a bit samey.. so many mechanics/ fighting etc. same as BotW and overwhelming - so many side quests, shrines, collectathons with rubbishy pay-offs 50 rupees, a 20shield. I'm not really getting the satisfaction out of it. I think I'm erring on the side of its a £50 DLC.

Still its Zelda and I've played every one since ocarina of time. I'm not about to stop now!

TheIsleOfTheLost · 22/05/2023 18:37

What sort of age would be ok for a child to play Zelda tears of the kingdom and book of the wild? By themselves with no help or input from me, as I never progressed past my brother's fold out donkey kong game and would be absolutely no help! So age that the themes would be ok and for the complexity. He loves minecraft, pokemon, kirby and animal crossing already. He has finished Link's awakening.

SmartHome · 22/05/2023 18:40

Mine have been playing since 6/7/8 and minecraft days but with my help. They help me now. If he's already comfortable with Minecraft, Animal Crossing, Pokemon etc then I think easily from 9/10. It's a little scary in places but no gore or inappropriate themes.
