Our local group had our first socially distant raid t'other day, there were 11 in the lobby and only 3 of us were physically at the gym. The bantz on the message group afterwards was funny though after I introduced them to a new word.

That's the negative side of lockdown, many players are too worried to get within 10m of another. There are some friends I haven't seen in months, and just a few I have seen to have a socially distant chat. Still, mustn't grumble.

Oooh esp 'BlueRoses1999,' you are due to go Best with Kathwithcats. If you could let me co-ordinegg and you can open the crucial gift on Sat that'd be great, but if you don't spot this msg before you open it I forgive you of course.

Just got a message about a new incense. What is this?!

No idea but I’ve had that too. There’s nothing in my bag though or any incense showing on my screen.

Hello fellow players! I’m new to Pokemon Go... I just started playing it last week with my kids (we are sharing an account as they’re only little).

Would anyone be kind enough to answer a newbie question, please? How did you make friends with other players? I’ve asked around friends and family but no one plays it. I can see other members of our team in local gyms but haven’t spotted real players out in the wild, and I think I’d be embarrassed to approach them if I did!!

We took over a gym today (my son was thrilled!) and put one of our Pokemon in there. I can see it’s now been joined by another. We also added one to a gym that had lots of others in. Are we supposed to try and make contact with other local players via the gyms?

What is the best way to get Pokemon friends?? Any advice gratefully received.

I’ve also got free incense! Wonder what these Pokémon that appear will be!

@ignatiusjreilly - post your trainer number on here and I'l add you as a friend! I've only been playing for a few weeks but already have over 80 friends - some are from posting my trainer number on here (thank you, mumsnetters!) and also looking at a reddit thread all about pokemon go, where lots of people post their trainer numbers, so I added some of them too.

@ignatiusjreilly - it is helpful to have at least one local friend as some tasks require you to be nearby another trainer (eg, to battle or trade). I made my DH an account which I use for this (he doesn't play but is happy for me to use his phone sometimes for Pokemon fun). If you're on facebook, search on your local town / village and Pokemon Go - I was surprised to find that there's an active group locally and posted my trainer number to make a few local friends.

I can see I am going to get really into this game... the kids will lose interest and I’ll be wandering the streets alone, tapping away furiously at my screen...

@ignatiusjreilly watch out! That's what happened to me. I started playing with my teenage son. He gave up after a few months, nearly 4 years later I have been playing every day. Hate to think how many hours I have wasted on it over the years.

Thanks everyone who added me! My son was unbelievably excited to get the gifts and I loved seeing the postcards from around the country.

Ignatius loads of us are in the same boat, I started with my DCs in 2016 too and am still playing long after they got bored. Although they do dip in and out occasionally (when I beg them to raid or trade with me)

I've added you both but am out of gifts so will send later. I love getting gifts and seeing where they're from. Thanks to adding trainer numbers from the Reddit thread, I have gifts coming from Japan, America, Italy etc. There's a limit to how many you can open each day which is a shame!

@ignatiusjreilly I've just sent you a smile I can't open gifts at the moment as my bag is full but please open mine i live near quite a few stops and gyms.

@EveeEvermore Saturday- 2pm? I want to take advantage of it being Weedle Community Day to get even more XP with my Lucky Egg.

Hate to think how many hours I have wasted on it over the years.

@tumpymummy I don't think it's necessarily more of a waste than a lot of other activities. And it makes us do a few more steps than we otherwise would.

Ignatius- will add. As a PP said, you could search for a Pokemon FB group in your area, I also got quite a few random players from all over the world as friends by asking on www.facebook.com/groups/268903557019033 That's another great group to ask questions BTW.

Friends aren't just for raids etc- as time goes on they become the best way to gain XP and go up levels. Send your friends a gift or open one from them, battle with them, or trade to increase your friend level.

Only one interaction counts per day towards increasing your level. You can tell if you've had an interaction that day by a blue 'halo' around the friend's avatar pic on your friends list. Hope this isn't too much info/ confusing. xx

That’s really useful to know, thanks NoMoreDickheads. I’ve noticed a blue halo around some of my Pokemon too... any idea what that means? I can’t work it out.

And whoever has the trainer name Woongy100... I live not far from you!
