Pokemon Go Thread #28: Careless Whismur.

Shiny new thread.

Our local group had our first socially distant raid t'other day, there were 11 in the lobby and only 3 of us were physically at the gym. The bantz on the message group afterwards was funny though after I introduced them to a new word.

That's the negative side of lockdown, many players are too worried to get within 10m of another. There are some friends I haven't seen in months, and just a few I have seen to have a socially distant chat. Still, mustn't grumble.

Has anyone used these new 'stickers' with gifts? I'm not clear what they do? They just seem to be a pair of rabbit ears? I dont see the point of them?

BaronessBomburst · 12/06/2020 08:20

I don't know, there's some hardcore chauvinists I'm going to enjoy stickering. Behave like a six year old, get treated like a six year old...... Grin

BaronessBomburst · 12/06/2020 08:42

A lot of Pokéstops date back to Ingress when the rules didn't apply. We've got lots that are people's houses, and quite a few locally that don't even exist anymore; playgrounds that have been rebuilt, a statue disappeared from a roundabout, and an attraction that long since went bankrupt.
We also have lots that aren't where they say they are. One of the players is an absolute pro at deceptive photography. A Henry Moore-esque statue in someone's front garden has been moved to a nearby carpark and they managed to shoot the pavement and garden at such an angle that it looks like the carpark and you can't see the house. Other statues and sculptures genuinely in parks and public spaces have been moved too so that the Got-cha can spin them if you drive past.
Speaking off which, anyone's local Pokéstop been toppled into a canal yet?

Olinguito · 13/06/2020 12:39

Thanks @TeamRocket and @JingleCatJingle - 11.00am tomorrow (Sunday) it is! (Jinglecat - I'm assuming your name has changed a bit but your pogo name is something catty?)

@Bootsuit I'll wait until Community Day for yours, unless I hear otherwise from you. @JuniLoolaPalooza if you get a chance to open my gift or send one to me it would be great to coordinegg with you too.

JingleCatJingle · 13/06/2020 12:43

Yes, sorry! I am SnorlaxCatty.

NoMoreDickheads · 13/06/2020 12:46

We have two pokestops in our community which don’t meet the criteria (you need an access guard to gain entry so they’re not available to the public), and they’re not exactly interesting places (one is the kids’ play park and the other is a decorative fountain that hasn’t worked for about 3 years!). I’m not complaining though! It shows the weaknesses in the process though.

@Feesh Parks often have stops- being boring doesn't apply to them.
There's a park I know of where people have to be paid members to gain entry. I think it has a stop/gym.

The access thing is about whether it's safe to play there i.e. a stop's not on a busy road with no pedestrian paths etc. pokemongohub.net/post/guide/pokestop-submission-guide/#Can_it_be_safely_accessed

Reviewers wouldn't know the place isn't open to anyone anyway, as it's very rare we get to review a stop for the local area.

I have hundreds I want to do.

@JacobReesMogadishu Oooh, what sort of thing? I can't think of many by where I tend to hang out. There is one stretch of road on a slightly more rural walk I take sometimes, and I'd like to see if there are any footpath entrances etc where I can put any stops.

@BaronessBomburst Yes, I know of some where it's murals that have been painted over etc. The more stops the better for playing purposes etc.

Ooh, cunning and cheeky. :) If you're bothered about any of them, you can apply to edit the location. The more stops the better, and ones you can get from the roads are helpful for people with mobility problems who mainly play from the car etc. But putting ones in their front garden is cheeky.

NoMoreDickheads · 13/06/2020 12:54

@tumpymummy I think the stickers are just to be friendly and alleged 'fun.' I can't see the ears one. They're things like a Pokemon with 'hi' next to it and stuff.

JuniLoolaPalooza · 13/06/2020 13:00

Speaking off which, anyone's local Pokéstop been toppled into a canal yet?
Haha, not especially local but certainly was on my bus route to work!

@Olinguito do I need to open the gift now or tomo at 11? I'm terrible for forgetting so if I cna do something that means you're in charge then let me know. Otherwise I will set an alarm and endeavour to keep my phone handy.

Olinguito · 13/06/2020 13:56

@JuniLoolaPalooza you can either open the gift you have from me at 11 tomorrow, or send me a gift any time before then and I'll open it at 11 on Sunday. Just make sure you are playing a lucky egg at 11 tomorrow to get double XP!

jillandhersprite · 13/06/2020 14:45

I would love to nominate a pokestop that I could spin from my home but unfortunately am slap bang in middle of a housing estate with no features or postboxes!
Apparently if you can make a permanent little book exchange on your garden that is accessible to pedestrians on the pavement then those can be accepted but I don't want a pokestop that much to actually do that!!!

JacobReesMogadishu · 13/06/2020 15:15

I wouldn't say yes to a book exchange on someone's drive. I'd decline on basis of it being temporary.

Stuff in paid for access areas is acceptable such as grounds of stately homes.

Stuff where you need authorisation to be there I'd class as private and decline but people lie on the nomination and if you don't know the area its hard to catch people out. I Google as much as I can to try and ensure it's OK.

JuniLoolaPalooza · 13/06/2020 17:14

@Olinguito if you're happy I'll send you a gift later on. Just worried it will trigger it for you. But that's probs the best option as I don't k ow what I'm doing tomo. X

JuniLoolaPalooza · 13/06/2020 17:15

Just got a shiny sneasel in the park, which was nice. It was v out of place in the spawns as not weather boosted etc, and then it was shiny. Crap IVs but will evolve to stick in gyms 😊

Olinguito · 13/06/2020 17:41

@JuniLoolaPalooza sending me a gift in readiness would be great, thank you - it's only opening gifts that triggers anything.

JuniLoolaPalooza · 13/06/2020 18:03

@Olinguito tis done x

TangelaHair · 13/06/2020 18:18

Sorry for lack of gifts and opening for anyone friends with me - Wurz P
I still can't get onto the game and it appears I'll need a new phone as was suggested earlier. They aren't supporting quite a lot anymore and some are only a few years old so it's a bit annoying especially if you don't give your kids a brand new one or don't upgrade regularly. Ah well!

TheGriffle · 13/06/2020 18:26

I’ve finally completed the required 15 raids. Now I’ve just got about 9 more eggs to hatch and no incubators! Going to sit and bounce my phone on my knee tonight to try and get some ‘steps’ in!

dillite · 13/06/2020 22:03

How are you getting stickers? It says I can get them from the shop, but mine has none.

chunkyrun · 13/06/2020 22:04

Hello! I'm new to Pokémon go. Started yesterday. Any words of advice for a newbie? What are raids?

Cupidity · 13/06/2020 22:42

@dillite I'm getting endless stickers from opening gifts (when I don't want stickers, I need more balls!!!)

@chunkyrun I'm very new too, have only been playing a month.

Apparently shiny Pokémon are special and you shouldn't bin them (wish I knew that weeks ago).

Keep all the Pokémon with really good 3* appraisal stats. They are better for fighting with (if they have low CP you can power them up).

Put your Pokémon in gyms - you can earn up to 50 coins a day, so after a few days you can upgrade your Pokémon storage or buy lure modules, etc.

Pokémon hatched from eggs tend to be good.

JuniLoolaPalooza · 14/06/2020 08:24

Morning
If bepna and elliskay see this, I have sent gifts that will trigger best friends (wasn't checking, sorry). If you see this I'd like to coordinegg but apologies also for not arranging beforehand!

JuniLoolaPalooza · 14/06/2020 08:26

Hi chunky welcome. If I was just starting I'd stick a lucky egg on and some incense and go for a walk somewhere with lots of stops to catch and spin, you'll get loads of XP! And remember, you gotta catch 'em all! Wink

chunkyrun · 14/06/2020 10:56

Is there any benefit to catching Pokémon you already have?

JuniLoolaPalooza · 14/06/2020 11:11

Definitely. You accrue candy so that you can evolve and power them up. You csn use them to fight in raids and gyms once they are strong enough. If you have netflix I recommend having a watch of pokemon indigo league, it makes more sense with some background!

JuniLoolaPalooza · 14/06/2020 11:12

Every time you catch pokemon you get 3 candy, 6 if you pinap Berry them. For mins with 3 evolves you'll need approx 125 candies to fully evolve.
