I caught a red Gary on DS' account. I'm gutted as I still don't have one and he now has 3! He's got 5 shiny bagons too, as well as a shelgon and a salamance but won't trade even though he knows I want a big fat shelgon pistachio nut.

I haven't caught a red Gary in the wild but I already had 2 and I've found another 2 shiny karps this event.

Can Vulpix be shiny? I thought only Alolan could and they don't spawn in the wild.

I think shiny Vulpix was an option for the next Community Day, so they're not available yet.
The battle icon unlocked briefly for DS and I yesterday evening and we had a look. It didn't work properly though.
As we've worked it out (may be wrong) you can win battles against other trainers for rewards. There were two leagues with better rewards in the higher one. Rewards varied from one rare candy for a win in the lower league to things like stardust, and four charge TMs for winning 4 out of 5 battles in the higher league. Before you battle (first one is free) you have to walk 5 km to unlock a battle pass. You have a set period to win your reward and then the battle season resets for everyone. It may be that you have to choose your reward in advance, it wasn't clear and the rewards didn't work.
DS and I fix battles (who doesn't? ) so it looks like we'll have to walk double and take it in turns to get a winning streak.
I need those charge TMs! I've so far used 16 on a groudon who just switches between Solar Beam and Fire Blast. I need Earthquake!!!

Is anyone else having issues with their friends list since the update? I can't swipe onto it from the avatar screen thingy (iyswim) so I cant open/send gifts. Which is a pita as I'm trying to hatch darumakas.

Vulpix doesn’t have a shiny yet, if it wins the votes for community day it will be available for the first time then (kanto form) although I’m leaning towards Ryhorn personally...

A friend in our local group has just encountered a wild SHINY Vulpix. So it's out there, we just have to find it.

Are you sure it wasn't an Alolan Vulpix? They were released into the wild at the end of last year. They're white with lavender and light blue feet.

Has everyone got the new battle option? I've done three so far, lost the first one then won the second one. Just deliberately lost a battle to get a heart with my buddy for battling together.
I don't think I can be bothered with them though I don't want rsi from bashing the screen on my phone all the time.

Last update I saw was Level 35 plus had it. I'm on 4 wins out of 10 and got 2 TMs as rewards so far.
