Anybody remember this? No? Just me then. I managed to raid and catch Latios yesterday.

Wailord is only any good for buggering up gyms so no one can feed berries to anything. Also for placing next to a weedle for comedy value.

Is Wailord any use? I have an 87% one but 500 candies to evolve a Wailmer. Tempted to evolve my shiny that’s 86% XP but only level 6...

TakeAChanseyOnMe No, Wailord is pretty useless. It just looks cool in a gym! I have a 100% one and I’ve never, ever used it in battle. I also have a shiny Wailmer but I haven’t and won’t evolve it as I like it small and shiny

I see Wailmer all the time anyway so have hundreds of candies for them, but especially with this event where they’re everywhere, racking up lots of candies shouldn’t be hard, particularly if you use a few pinaps.

It’s also 400 candies to evolve, not 500, so at least you’ve already shaved off a hundred

Smack Down has been confirmed as Larvitar’s special move on community day! This is amazing news as it finally means Tyrannitar will be able to have double rock moves, instantly making it the best rock type attacker in the game!

Also 3x XP for every Pokemon caught during the event.

My Pokémon has been defending this gym for one day 10 hours

I plonked a donphan into a local gym, yesterday, and it's still there. The dynamic has changed since the undergrads finished as we normally get our 8 hours then get booted. I stayed in that gym for 4 days solid over half term. It's even on a main road!

The other gym has my Espeon in it, it's been there four hours - not been attacked and nobody's added a Pokémon to the gym! However, at the gym my Pokémon has spent days at someone's JUST given them all golden razz berries.

When you place a Pokemon in a gym, a badge appears at the top of the screen. The more interaction you have with a gym (placing a Pokemon in there, berrying Pokemon in there, battling and raiding that gym etc.), the more points you earn, and eventually you will get gold.

Being gold on a gym has its advantages. You get more items when you spin that gym, and if you’re gold on an ex-raid gym you are more likely to get a pass there (assuming of course that you have raided there within their time parameters).

Raiding is by far the quickest way to become gold on a gym, but if I want gold I will golden razz my Pokemon and all the ones in the gym with it remotely the second anyone tries to battle it just to increase my defense time.

I am gold in several gyms in my area but I am trying to become gold on them all

I'm good at my 3 closest gyms and the one at the bus stop near ds2's school. That was my first from before I lived near any gyms. I kept possession of it for most of the 3 months I was having to transport him to school, myself. It's a quiet location and 5 minutes waiting for the bus home in the morning was usually sufficient.

The local gyms are a lot more competitive. Probably a couple of dozen regular instinct players alone.

WhatToDo I don't think being gold on a gym makes any difference with regards to getting ex passes. The 2 I've got for this week, I'm silver on one & have only ever raided/visited the other once. It's more about the number of unique accounts hitting that particular gym in a week if it fulfils the other criteria for being an ex gym.

What is the requirement to get an EX Raid Pass?
According to official Niantic post, the following factors influence the chance to get an EX Raid pass:

• Trainers who have recently raided at the Gym where the EX Raid is taking place are eligible for EX Raid invite
• Trainers with a high-level Gym Badge are more likely to be invited to EX Raid Battles taking place at that Gym.
• Trainers who have completed a larger number of Raid Battles in the previous week are more likely to be invited to EX Raid Battles.

You don’t have to be gold on a gym to get an ex-raid pass, but it does increase your chances. Even if you raid an ex-raid gym during the right time, you may not always get an ex-raid invite, so having a gold gym badge on the ex-raid gym does give you an edge.

It’s a lot more complex than number of accounts; there are a lot of hidden parameters and we can only work with what we know, which is the above.

Sneaky you must have missed my Blissey that was lost in Norfolk for 39 days, but even that was surpassed by someone else here who had one in a gym for much longer in Lincs (I think).
I currently have another one sat in the new gym that's over the back of our holiday home. Would be really useful to get that one to gold!

I just got chucked out of a gym I’d taken over in about ten minutes

Every gym near my work has a raid while I’m AT work but come lunchtime, nothing.

I left a Pokemon at a gym at a train station (not a busy one but not dead either) and someone must have lived within reaching distance of it as it was fed over 100 berries. 😧 I can’t remember what Pokemon it was but it wasn’t one you’d want candy on so they must have been looking for gold.

My friend finally took over the gym after I begged him to and I got my Pokémon back

I believe it’s weather changes from rain to sunshine. You can see them when you click on a Pokemon too.

Rainbows have been in the game about 3 weeks now.

It has not been confirmed exactly what they are for but a Special Weather code was added, leading to the theory that Alolan Pokemon may have increased spawns during this special weather period.

I was hoping that there might be a pot of poke coins at the end of it!
