I just got bored of walking my Wailmer and used some rare candy to evolve it, so of course there's now going to be a water pokémon event 🙄.

Wailord is an okay Pokémon; definitely not worth rare candies!

Not too excited about the water festival as water Pokemon are exceptionally common here anyway, but the new shinies will be good.

I raised 3 times today and failed to get shiny Ho-oh. Last time I found Kyogre really hard to catch so fingers crossed that I've improved since then.

They are. Sealeo is Ice/Water and Horsea is pure Water.

Caught my second ever Totodile today, I wasn’t playing when gen 2 was released so don’t have all the starters. Also caught a Quillfish which I didn’t have and an Absol from the excellent curve ball quest.

Looking through my Pokemon, I realised I have a second 100% Kabuto from the rock event

Last time Kyogre was out my highest IV catch was 89%, so hoping for 90% + this time, and I also have my fingers crossed for a shiny 🤞

A very happy bettytaghetti here! Not only got this purple one this morning, but have come up to our weekend place and our nearest stop has been converted to a gym (which we didn't have before) and the pub across the road is now a new pokestop. Well chuffed!

Hello everyone! I’ve been playing Pokemon Go on and off for a while and have just noticed how rubbish I am and how little I know! Only level 23, is that why I’ve not encountered a lot of the Pokemon you are talking about? I keep running out of pokeballs!

DS (nearly 7) is crying because a Wailmer I was going to let him catch disappeared. Is this normal?

No. Your level doesn’t determine what Pokémon you encounter; lower levels just mean the Pokémon you do encounter are likely to be much lower CPs and IVs.

If you’ve only been playing on and off then you will have missed several events, where they make certain Pokémon types more common to help you fill your Dex.

Your biome (the area in which you live) plays a major part. I personally get a lot of water Pokemon due to living near a lot of rivers, but other plays who live away from water won’t. And of course, now we have weather that affects spawns too.

Also, as new Gens arrive, older Gen Pokemon become rarer as their spawns have decreased. So Gen I Pokemon don’t appear anywhere near as frequently as they used to (hence the recent Kanto event), similarly with Gen II but not as much. When Gen IV is released, Gen III spawns will decrease.

This is why I’m really glad I’ve managed to complete Gen I, Gen II and Gen III Pokedexes (bar regionals not yet released in the UK and so far unreleased Pokémon) well in advance of them releasing Gen IV, as the longer it takes you to complete your Dex, the harder it will be.

Yes. Pokemon only spawn for a certain amount of time, usually half an hour to forty five minutes, so if their time runs out before you manage to click on them, they will disappear.

You’re welcome For me, I only keep anything over 90% IV, but YMMV.

When I catch a Pokémon, if it doesn’t say ‘It’s A Wonder’ then I transfer it straight away (obvious exceptions are shiny Pokemon!), as I know it’s not high enough for what I want, especially if I’m wanting to battle with it in its final evolution eg. Tyrannitar, Gyarados, Dragonite etc.

I'm sure it's been covered a million times so I'm sorry but how do I work out IVs? I'm off for a Pokemon hunt in Hyde Park to cheer DS up while he's in the hospital. Hopefully there will be something cool.

Take a screenshot of the Pokemon you want the IVs for, then (at least on iPhone, Android might be slightly different) load the app and add the image.

You’ll see a rough idea of an IV straight away, but you need to narrow it down to be accurate, so once it’s added, scroll down to the bottom to where it says “Add Appraisal”. This is where you put in what Pokémon Go tells you when you click a Pokemon’s in game Appraisal screen.

You will now have an accurate IV I don’t bother PokeGenie-ing anything that isn’t a wonder (Mystic), and even then I only keep wonders over 90% (wonders can range from 82% to 100%).

I added a wailmer to my collection of cp1000 Pokémon, this morning :)
