Evolve then power up or you lose all the powering up did by evolving anyway

You don't lose any powering up but you do run the risk of getting a crap moveset

No point powering up a Pokemon with shit moves if you don't have any TMs!

Also with Pokemon that are hard to get candies for, you want to make sure you're picking the ones with the best IVs (you can use the PokeGenie app for this)

There are other factors at play, like the CP, the movesets, the types and whether you're using them effectively, but a higher IV for an already beast of a Pokemon does make a difference

I changed its move sets to the best available.

Congrats! Pinap berries are brilliant - they double the candy you get from catching a Pokemon, so you want to be using them on Pokemon you need and are struggling for candies for.

Good examples to use them on are Magikarp (need 400 for Gyarados), Larvitar, Dratini, Mareep, Eevee, Rhydon, Machop, Geodude and Chansey.

I haven't had a Mareep since 25th June! I've still got all the candies I walked 284 km for on standby for a decent one to evolve!
