AtSea1979 There's a grass event on this weekend!

PickAChew · 07/05/2017 23:53

I transfered 8 exeggcutes, today, after probably transferring as many as soon as I'd caught them.

Better than the pink Valentines's event. Have 2 pretty fantastic ones ot evolve, plus loads of spare candy. I rather like gym battling with them.

Not as much fun as Donphan, mind, which goes completely berserk, in the truest sense of the word!

Oh no! I'm so, so upset Sad Look who appeared just outside my house right now! I threw 10 ultra balls at it and gave it razz berries every time but it ran away from me SadSadSad

It's my favourite Pokemon ever and I only have 75 chikorita candy Sad

I am in another area where the even hasn't really happened. I went to a different town yesterday and saw a few chicoritas nearby, and yet none would pop up when at pokestop. Loads of rats and hoots and swinubs though. My 5k egg was a voltorb.

KatyBerry · 08/05/2017 10:27

I had an odd gym experience. My local always-level-10 got a space so I wanted on at more or less any cost... I fought 4 times in a row to level it up and just used whatever auto filled. There was absolutely zip difference in the battles whether I was using 2600 gyardos' or 1400 golducks. I'm beginning to think that high cp is only for keeping you on the gym as close to the top and makes little difference to fights (is this something that everyone else figured out last August?!). Anyway I'm on, at number 6 so pleased!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 08/05/2017 10:31

KatyBerry The gym battles are very complex and have links to the original games.

High CP is a factor when battling; it certainly helps. Type is more effective though (ie. a 1600 Jolteon will do great against a 2500 Vaporeon because water is good against electric).

The higher the CP the better really, but make sure you pick the right Pokemon to invest your stardust in when powering up because it's hard to come by and very useful.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 08/05/2017 13:59

It's like rock, paper, scissors where some types are more and less effective than others.

I did well on deciding not to prioritise Ivysaur as a buddy as it was a considerable amount of mileage to cover and I've now got enough to evolve at long last. Smile Got a few new evolutions brewing for my next lucky egg session.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 08/05/2017 14:04

These are the strengths and weaknesses for gyms. Some are quite logical e.g. water over fire.

It can be more complicated as some pokemon have moves that are of different types.

I found this pic useful - especially against Blissey. It's made me take notice of the moves that my evolved mon has.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 08/05/2017 14:24

CrazedZombie Yes, that's a good list. It's important to know what moves your Pokemon has too, in order for them to be most effective in battle.

KatyBerry · 08/05/2017 14:40

yes, it's which moves do what against which other moves that loses my interest I think. An idiot level question though - do the moves always follow through on an evolution? so sometimes you're better off evolving a lower cp with more interesting skills?

LBOCS2 · 08/05/2017 14:52

Is anyone else getting properly random spawns, which seem to have no connection to this event at all? In the past couple of hours I've caught a skarmory, a koffing and a slowpoke in my house - I never usually see anything like this but equally they're not grass types either!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 08/05/2017 16:27

KatyBerry No, definitely don't do that! A Pokémon's moves change when they evolve, so it doesn't matter what they have in their first or second forms.

Always appraise your Pokemon - keep the highest CP 'wonder' or 'caught my attention' Pokémon you can and evolve that one. What moves they end up with are random, and some second/third evolutions gain another type.

TrashPanda · 08/05/2017 18:40

Caught my last 2 Chikorita on the way home, so finally got my Meganium. Walked the last 2 candy for Machop over the weekend, so got my Machamp. Only Dragonite to go for Gen1 but miles away on 75 candy. Also evolved Granbull and Forretress over the weekend. Only 11 to go for Gen2, I can walk most of them except Unown. Never seen Larvitar either.

Starlight2345 · 08/05/2017 19:40

Well Assume the event will be over by the morning..Home with child now..

So I have need about 7 bulbasaur candy, 3 sunkerns , 5 oddish , 4 polly wag 17 chickorrita so lots of near evolves now.

HandbagCrab · 08/05/2017 19:47

Evolved vileplume today and caught a kabuto. 13 candies off venusaur and nearly halfway to meganium. Not bad but the grass Pokémon seemed to disappear over the weekend

TrashPanda · 08/05/2017 20:21

I missed an Ampharos, was showing at the Pokestop down the road but I didn't get to it in time Sad

EatingMyWords · 08/05/2017 21:49

If you're training up your own team's gym you need to use pokemon that are half the CP of the bottom one in the gym or less. You can just fight the bottom one then run away or fight a few then run. That bumps the gym up much faster than using high CP pokemon. I don't know the technical reason for it, but it works!

The event's been OK for me- got my last gen 1 pokemon (except regionals)- a tangela! Got loads of exeggutes and sunkerns too, but the local pokemon hotspot was rubbish- I got most at Asda and locally.

Dillite2 · 08/05/2017 22:40

I am hugely, massively, spectacularly pissed off. I was waiting for my train just next to a pokestop when I saw that a kabuto is at that very stop on my nearby list. So I spent some coins, bought myself a lure, popped it on and was gleefully waiting for that fucker to pop up. Like fuck did it pop up! 20 minutes I was there. 20 minutes it was on my nearby list and yet it did not appear! All those wasted coins. I did get 4 eggceccutes and 1 sunkern though. That's all that I got from this grass type event.

I also hatched an eevee and a psyduck from my 5k eggs.

AtSea1979 · 08/05/2017 23:08

Today I evolved a Pikatu and a Sunkern. Still lots of Gen 1 to evolve yet.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 08/05/2017 23:12

Lures are rubbish. I've had 3 due to the L30 upgrade and used 2 this weekend when hanging around a playground with the DCs for a substantial period. This weekend seemed like a decent time to use them, particularly at the Onix nest, but all they do is attract a few extra vermin. I save coins for incubators and lucky eggs. The lures and incense aren't worth using coins on Sad

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 08/05/2017 23:24

Dillite2 A lure won't attract a Pokemon on the nearby list. If you're at a poke stop and it says X Pokemon is there but it isn't, you need to move around the area a bit or it simply isn't there and hasn't updated your list.

Never waste coins on lures; they're very rarely worth it.

tumpymummy · 09/05/2017 01:21

Lucky you eatingmywords ! Tangela is the only Gen 1 I've needed for months. Was hoping to get one this event, but didn't unfortunately. I have however gone from only 2 sunkern and chikoritas to having enough to evolve inc bayleef to megamanium (or whatever it's called) Also caught loads of exegcutes so have enough for another exeggutor.

PickAChew · 09/05/2017 07:09

Hah! The event is still on!

I did notice not much sign of it in the centre of Gateshead and Newcastle, yesterday, even though the MetroCentre had been fantastic.

Was going to ask, when does the event end? I need eggecutes
