I'm new at veganing and I'd like ideas and somewhere to record my meals... please let me know what vegan food is on the menu in your house tonight (or eating out too actually) I am really interested 😊

So tonight I am making veggie chilli out of sweet potato/courgette/peppers/carrot/baby corn/kidney beans etc served with guacamole and tortilla chips. I have homemade vegan brownies for dessert.

Don't think I will miss meat/dairy at all Grin

The Linda McCartney 'shredded duck' is vegan and delicious with pancakes / udon noodles and cucumber and hoi sin sauce.
Best of all - 7 mins prep time.

Rockaby · 25/04/2017 11:59

Totally agree whatslove! I love that stuff, but only ever seem to be able to find it when I do a grocery shop online. It's never in store where I live (boo). Might put in an online order just so I can have that next week Grin!

FauxFox · 25/04/2017 13:58

Sorry you are feeling anxious twenty - well done for realising and seeking help quickly - I hope you feel better soon Flowers

DH is all into being vegan/healthy diet etc at the moment and whilst i am really pleased he has lost some weight and his blood pressure has come down I have had to tell him about four times to stop talking about weight/diets etc in front of the kids because I really feel they don't need to hear it Confused My mum never went on a 'diet' or mentioned weight when I was a child and I feel it went a long way towards me having a healthy attitude to food (though funnily enough now she is Granny I have had to tell her to stop talking about diets/being fat/slim etc in front of DD too Hmm)

Welcome ppeatfruit it's great isn't it! So glad it took off and there are loads of recipes and meal ideas in here to try Smile

I will give that LM Duck a try - i've seen it in the shops before so if it's nice it's worth a go!

I am doing tacos for dinner (Taco Tuesday Grin) going to use soya mince and hope the kids like it!

www.onegreenplanet.org/vegan-recipe/cheesy-whole-roasted-cauliflower/

DH and I are having this^^ whole roast cauliflower with patatas bravas tonight. DD said "yuk" when I said that's what I was making, (she's two). She is having something else!

That's hard faux. I have to make a real effort not to mention weight, diets etc in front of DD when I'm with my adult, (mainly women), friends, as it is such a talked about subject. It's just become ingrained I think. Luckily my DH never diets as he has never needed to, so obviously never talks about it.

MsJuniper · 25/04/2017 19:12

Does anyone else follow Bosh on Facebook? I am always transfixed by their recipe videos and there are some great ideas.

Rockaby · 25/04/2017 19:47

I'm not on FB juniper. Do they have a blog? I could obviously just google myself Grin!

Nobody wanted my poor cauliflower Sad. I am on my second helping, (the first was half the cauliflower, now finishing it off). Not my greatest triumph in the kitchen and I'll probably feel ill after an entire head cauliflower Blush!

Rockaby · 25/04/2017 19:51

www.peta.org/living/food/vegan-bosh-recipe-videos-we-cant-stop-watching/

I've just googled Bosh vegan and found this^^. I haven't even watched the videos, just looked at the stills on the website and I'm now a bit hungry and very grumpy with my cauliflower fail Wink.

FauxFox · 25/04/2017 19:56

Do not eat the whole cauliflower rockaby - you will surely be so farty Shock

OP posts:
Rockaby · 25/04/2017 20:26

Grin faux I've told DH that if I am farty later, it will be payback time for all his horrible farts over the years. He isn't scared and says he can match me blow for blow - dammit!

Goldfishjane · 25/04/2017 20:44

Ew cauliflower Sad

MsJuniper · 25/04/2017 21:10

I think Bosh is just on Facebook at the moment, but as you said the videos are being shared online.

We are having veg stir fry tonight. Have been staying with pils for a fortnight who are keen cooks and haven't let us lift a saucepan so I need to get back into the rhythm of cooking!

We tried the Tesco vegan onion bhaji burgers the night we came back with some rice and veg. Nothing to write home about but nice enough so will keep some in the freezer for similar evenings when we cba to cook!

Following this

Rockaby · 25/04/2017 21:55

It was pretty poor goldfish. Not my finest hour in the kitchen for sure!

Goldfishjane · 25/04/2017 22:05

Rock, is no way to cook cauliflower to make it nice!

Goldfishjane · 25/04/2017 22:06

*there

DeliveredByKiki · 26/04/2017 06:16

Can someone post the link to the bosh Facebook group? I can't find it

Sorry to hear it's triggering you twenty, hope you find a way through it

economy compared to my 5yo DD yours eats loads!! I've recently given up stressing about it but there's no way she could be vegan when she eats no Veg whatsoever!

I used to be a cauliflower hater then had it roasted in a pub and it changed my life I fucking love the stuff now - JO does a great whole roasted cauliflower recipe

We've been invited to a lot of BBQ's recently so I've had the Beyond Burger a lot- not sure if it's available inthe U.K. yet though. Also discovered an amazing local vegan cheese company that does cultured cheeses fit for a cheese board and they sell at my farmers market

Rockaby · 26/04/2017 07:14

Thanks goldfish. That's made me feel better. Think I'll steer clear of cauliflower for a while, although my tummy has felt surprisingly fine. Steel stomach!

ppeatfruit · 26/04/2017 08:38

Thanks Faux Ref. ED's I think it's almost impossible to stop talking about food, after all it's what keeps us alive Grin. Though so many people ignore the fact!

I know that being a demi vegan (I eat some carefully caught fish) is what keeps me very healthy indeed, Im 66 ( I know lots of people younger than me who have chronic ill health).

I made some lovely spiced ginger bread yesterday , totally vegan but you would never know it! I believe in having tasty food ! So many think that I'm a 'hair shirt' type which I'm not.

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/04/2017 14:09

Can you post recipe for the ginger dreadppeatfruit please?

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/04/2017 14:09

Dread?breadBlush

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/04/2017 14:13

Not sure you guys want to move over but vegan threads now up and running!

LaContessaDiPlump · 26/04/2017 14:22

If faux doesn't want to move this one then we could always start a 'Go-to' recipes thread in the vegan topic - rule is that you should contribute one recipe that you know is yummy, ideally with a web link.....

DeliveredByKiki · 26/04/2017 15:23

I like that idea Contessa

I made a carrot cake on the weekend using aquafaba as the binder - DD gobbledit all up which means a vegetable WIN!!

FauxFox · 26/04/2017 17:01

Ooh new vegan topic is open? I will take a look! Roast Cherry tomato spaghetti for dinner here - they are coming out of my ears as DH and I both bought a big punnet yesterday!

Rockaby · 26/04/2017 17:30

Roast veg and maybe some rice here tonight.

I really like the new vegan board!
