I do not feel bad for people who miss their flights or trains.

In general it is not hard at all to be on time. People miss flights or trains because of their own poor plannings, time management and irresponsibility.

when I travel by train from one city to another city far away, I see other travellers running to catch their trains. Sometimes they manage to make it onto their trains before they leave, a lot of time they miss them and they complain and throw a fit and sometimes even cry.

i always chuckle when I witness that because I know for sure that it is their fault. When I travel and I have a train or flight to catch I make sure to leave my house early to I can arrive early. At least 3 hours early. If I have a flight at 9 AM for example and the airline recommends me to be at the airport at 7 AM I am there at 6 AM. Of course I take myself to the airport so that nobody can dictate what I can and can’t do. I don’t let relatives take me to the airport anymore. I use uber or public transport.

the only time I’ve ever missed my flights or trains was when I travelled with older relatives. But ever since I started travelling solo, I never missed my flights or trains.

so when I am at the train stations or airport and I see people running, I feel 0 sympathy for them. They most likely loiter at home and decide to leave their homes close to the time of their departures.

That’s why I pick long layovers

So we had to run for a flight because even though the layover was four hours (which should be plenty of time) we missed the connection due to delays from poor weather and airport losing power. Sometimes despite taking all precautions and being super early things are out of your control.

Your schadenfreude is petty, immature and bitter.

Here is a simple solution. Leave your house extra early instead of loitering.

Lots of us aren't leaving our house.

We are dashing from a work meeting or similar that we were needed at and which ran over through no fault of our own.

Its patently clear you sit round all day with nothing more to do than plan long layovers and "chuckle" at people who miss their train because you are "sure" its their fault.

Have you really no other responsibilities that sometimes don't sit neatly in the box you put them in? People are often juggling a lot - so much they would not have time for something as unproductive as chuckling at others missing their train.🙄

I very nearly missed my flight from Belfast to Newcastle few months ago. It said to arrive 2 hours before my flight and I did. I would arrived at least 2.30 hours before but you can't drop your bag off until the bag drop is open. I arrived at 4.55 for my 7.15 flight, but spent over an hour in the queue to drop off my suitcase and carseat. I already checked in online. Then I waited nearly 40 minutes at security. I just got through when it was my last call so I had to grab my 3 year old and run with my 1 year old in my arms. I just made it.

I've also missed a connection flight before as my plane was delayed and it arrived late at Dubai. It literally arrived just as my other flight was taking off.

well no. I’d rather have these long layovers so I don’t have to run and be in a rush.

you keep doing your tight connections if you enjoy stress.

oh I certainly will. We can share the prestige award of “never having missed a connecting flight” 🥇 😉

& You keep on doing with your god awful unpleasant attitude if you enjoy looking down on others.

Do not care. Solo travel is much more enjoyable then travelling with other people who are poor
planners and who loiter around.

Poor love. Are you trying to make yourself feel better because no one will travel with you and your superiority complex.

Maybe use all that alone time at the airport to brush up on your written English?

blueclip · 29/08/2025 18:44

OP you sound a bit naive as to what people have to deal with in life. It’s unlikely that they are sitting around at home without a care in the world thinking, “oh I’ll leave when I feel like it”. They are likely organising kids/pets/other responsibilities. The most recent time DH drove to Gatwick, his windscreen got cracked by some flying stone. Would you laugh seeing him running for the flight after encountering this problem? As that’s pretty cunty.

MrPickles73 · 29/08/2025 18:45

You sound smug

Calliopespa · 29/08/2025 18:46

This is just a deeply weird thread op.
The fact that you'd laugh.
The fact that you'd bother to start a thread about it.
All just very, very weird.

ETA or are you stuck at the airport and bored out of your mind by a 10 day layover?

FeetLikeFlippers · 29/08/2025 18:46

“Loitering” lol. You sound like a 70-something gammon writing a stern letter to the Daily Mail!

Not to mention the people who could leave home earlier, @Calliopespa, but can’t drop their children off at nursery/preschool care any earlier, so end up having to to dash from the nursery drop off to the station/bus stop.

I suspect @joseline doesn't have any extra responsibilities that impact on her ability to plan, to leave earlier or to plan long layovers. Though that is no excuse for failing to understand that other people do have more complex arrangements, and can run up against circumstances that impact their ability to get to the station nice and early. And it takes a particularly nasty character to laugh at other people’s misfortunes.

rhinosuze · 29/08/2025 18:50

i once spent 10 hours trapped on the motorway whilst going for a flight, obviously I missed it, but more than one person died that day so really I count myself lucky I only missed a flight.

Glad you ‘chuckle’ to yourself with no knowledge whatsoever of why these people might not make their transport.

Not usually horrible like this but I hope you miss an important transport one day so it gives you the opportunity to reset as a human being

Truly embarrassing post

Jillybloop393 · 29/08/2025 18:50

Heck, it must be nice to be as perfect as you, you smug, superior little tw*t. Incidentally, with all the spare time you have sitting at stations/airports, read a book thar teaches you English - you could do with improving yours.

Jillybloop393 · 29/08/2025 18:51

'That', not 'thar'!

LaDamaDeElche · 29/08/2025 18:51

I work in the travel industry and yes, there are many people who miss flights due to poor planning, but there are times when multiple people miss flights because there’s been a massive accident on the motorway, and even though they’ve left in plenty of time they end up missing it. Same as people on trains to an airport, if there’s a breakdown or major delay etc it can result in multiple people missing flights. I’ve seen late/broken down transfer pick-ups abroad result in this too. Sometimes with all the will and planning in the world things outside of your control happen.

Lndnmummy · 29/08/2025 18:52

Well done OP! You want a golden sticker?

AmIHumanOrAmIAYeti · 29/08/2025 18:57

Congratulations on a) not having 27 hours worth of stuff to fit into every 24 and b) having a brain wired to push you to be early for everything.

We have default 20mph limits here, but that’s not enough slowing down for some people. I got stuck behind some twunt this afternoon doing 32mph on a 60mph dual carriageway. Unfortunately I don’t have the luxury of allowing twice as long for every journey so sometimes I might be a bit late.

Dora26 · 29/08/2025 18:57

You need to get out more OP!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 29/08/2025 19:00

I have lateness anxiety and am quite often INCREDIBLY early for trains and flights. But, you know what? This is actually very unpleasant, it disrupts my life and, while I might not miss a flight or train, I envy those who don't end up spending four hours on a freezing train platform with nothing but a Star Bar and an expensive coffee.

mondaytosunday · 29/08/2025 19:01

I missed a flight because our car broke down in a tunnel on the way to the airport.
I missed another flight because I forgot the keys to the house we were staying at and our driver thought we’d have enough time to go back and get it. Obviously not (real nightmare as I was exclusively breastfeeding my youngest and there was absolutely no where to sit, we had to fly to a different airport three times as far away to our destination and lost our booked hire car).
My two teenage kids missed their flight to join me in Spain. Checked in ok and went to grab some breakfast. They just didn’t understand that boarding closed half an hour before the flight time and got to the gate too late.
We almost missed our connecting Singapore to Perth flight as our flight from London left late. They held it up as there were a number of passengers doing the same transfer - amazingly our luggage made it too!
I once misread 20:00 as 10pm missing the train to get to the overnight ferry to France.
Taking the Eurostar by car I believed the signs that said not to queue til they called the train so I did just that and missed two in a row!
So some our fault some things just happen. I get very stressed out by travelling now.

Not much could be worse than seeing your cruise ship leaving. So this one's for you OP.

Well bully for you OP. And no, you do not "know for sure that it is their fault."

DH and I missed our flight home from Malaga once and spent a very uncomfortable night in the airport. Was it tardiness or poor planning on our part? No actually it wasn't. It was because there was a fatal crash right in front of us and we had to wait hours while the emergency services did their jobs and they reopened the motorway.
