Somewhere that is pretty and has something to look at like a cathedral, canal or river and you can spend a couple of hours just exploring?

Thinking mainly England for a day trip but other areas too for weekends.

I love Shrewsbury. Lots of good places to eat and independent shopping

I don't think I have ever been anywhere and failed to find something worthwhile - pretty much everywhere has some interesting features. But my favourite big city is probably Glasgow and small town wise I have a real soft spot for Whitely Bay.

I can't believe some people said Brighton. Please don't come here. It's shit!

I love Brighton on a sunny day. It's fabulous and far more exciting than boring Oxford that I lived in for 20 years!

I apologise to the people of Wales for including Welsh places on my England list!

We went to Durham and Canterbury last year both good.

This year Brighton, Nottingham and Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

As someone who doesn't live in UK, I found the following places delightful over several visits.

Stratford upon Avon
Bath
Oxford
Harrogate (and the Bronte places)
Lichfield
Moreton, Stow and Boreton on the water
Conwy
Lancaster
Kendal
And many more. I love the way a lot of the heritage is so well preserved.
