Hotel expecting me to share a bed with one of my sons

MollyBunny154 · 08/02/2023 00:53

I have had to travel nearly 3 hours away from home to a specialist Childrens hospital as my youngest son is 11 and is being admitted very early in morning for day for tests.
My oldest son is 19 and has come with us as I don't like traveling on my own.

I booked to stay at premier Inn for 2 nights , paid for a family room, was assured it would have a double bed sofa bed and pull out bed so 3 beds.

Turned up and checked in tonight went to room and found they had given me a twin room with just 2 beds.

Went back to reception as thought they had perhaps given me wrong key. They said that was correct key and room and there was nothing they could do as hotel is fully booked. I was told I would have to share a bed with one of my son's

It was too late to find another hotel so reluctantly went back to room.

There is no way any one could share a bed with my youngest son, he moves around in his bed constantly all night.

I don't think it would be appropriate to share a bed with my oldest son.

I've had to give my sons the beds and I'm having to sleep on floor, using a coat as a blanket as don't even have any spare bedding.

Am I wrong think it's not right to have to share a bed with one of my son's.

What would you have done in this situation.
Am I right to be annoyed.

Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance

Sounds like a mistake was made but you also blew it up out of all proportions. He is your son for gods sake. Were you worried he would touch you up? I wouldnt give it a seconds thought to share a bed in an 'emergency' with any of my family. No way would i let one of them sleep on the floor.

I would have had a good laugh, a nice nights sleep and next morning double checked my booking and then complained and asked for a refund if they hadnt provided what i booked.

Idiot.

Maverickess · 08/02/2023 09:49

This thread is an absolute disgrace, I work in a hotel and I'm the first to defend things and am often faced with similar situations, but where the person has booked online and hasn't entered the correct number of people (and this is confirmed by the well, confirmation they received!!!) And are allocated a room based on what they've booked but still complain.
And even I can't see and bloody well-read that the OP -

  • Booked and was confirmed once with a confirmation and once over the phone, a family room for three people.
  • On arrival was allocated a twin room with two single beds and no space for a z bed or similar to add to the room.
  • Was told the hotel was full and no alternative room was available.
  • Was told there was no extra bedding available for her to use to sleep on the floor.

Why the OP travelled with her eldest son, why none of them want to share a bed (of any size) , what other people's experience is, or photos on a website are irrelevant because as someone has posted already, the website does state that twin rooms may contain two single beds - they state that for a reason, because well, a twin room might have two single beds and not the picture on the website.
But the configuration of a twin room is also irrelevant because the OP booked and paid for a family room with enough space for 3 people to sleep - and has had this confirmed, twice.

So many threads you read or hear about customer service etc is over emotional reactions to non events, and full of people moaning about 'shit customer service' - yet here is a case of actual shit customer service and the OP is having their arse handed to them because people aren't bothering to read even the OP properly, never mind any of the updates, which are actually for the most part OP clarifying what they have already said in the OP.

I always book for 3 adults when I book a family room as its me, my mum and my daughter, although I can share with my daughter.

However if you only have twin beds, then they have not given you a family room or one that will sleep 3 people.

I would definitely complain about that, as long as your booking clearly shows 3 and family room. If you didn't specify 3 beds though I think they assume it is a couple and 1 child.

What reason could OP have for saying there were only two single beds if this wasn’t infact the truth? How would it help her in any way? I appreciate there are trolls on MN, but this would be a remarkably dull thing to troll about.

It’s already been shown on this thread that they do have twin rooms.

saraclara · 08/02/2023 10:02

@Rainbowsparkles29 someone has already posted a screenshot of the small print from PI that says that some of their rooms will only have two single beds.

steppemum · 08/02/2023 10:03

Rainbowsparkles29

you obviously are troll hunting, either that or you can't read.
The op has stated clearly that she had 2 single beds and multiple people have pointed out that PI on their website say that single rooms CAN have single beds not doubles.

So given that all that information has been given, the only reason for your post is that you think it is all a lie and she is a troll.

Nice.

They didn’t give her a family room. They just gave her the last room in an overbooked hotel which happened to be an unusual one with 2 twin beds. (Hence why it was the last one). And it is unusual for PI staff to not be accommodating as we have always found them great but alway the odd one.

Problem is, the 19 year old is too old for "family room". A friend had a similar problem as room was for 2 adults and a child, but they were able to get a pop up zbed type thing out for the youngest. I hadn't realised any premier inn had rooms with single beds in!! They claim to only have doubles / sofa bed so that's a definite area for complaint too.

Ffs she wasn’t given a family room. She was given a twin room.

Theunamedcat · 08/02/2023 10:10

MollyBunny154 · 08/02/2023 07:05

Didn't get much sleep. I will say it once more I booked a Family room not a twin. My booking confirmation clearly states Family room in writing. Room has 2 single beds. I think it's one of them where it can be 2 single beds or you can push them together to make a double.

I booked for 3 people 2 Adults and 1 Child. Again booking confirmation clearly shows this. I rang up and spoke to someone at time of booking to explain the situation. They told me to book it as 2 adults and 1 child. They said they would put a note on booking and that we would definitely get 3 beds.

I'm not stupid I booked room how premier Inn told me to book it.

Any way heading to hospital now. Need to concentrate on my son.

Hope it goes well for you today 🌻

SoupDragon · 08/02/2023 10:11

And come to think of it I've never been in a PI room with 2 single beds.

Read the small print that someone posted earlier.

just because you haven't seen one doesn't mean they don't exist.

Tessasanderson · 08/02/2023 10:13

saraclara · 08/02/2023 09:27

You'd share a single width bed with your adult son (or even daughter)? I'm not sure that's even physically possible. I certainly wouldn't put my adult son in that uncomfortable situation.

I guess you made the same mistake as me and didnt read all the comments. If you read my follow up comment your post is irrelevant

Hotel expecting me to share a bed with one of my sons
BadNomad · 08/02/2023 10:16

Quite a number of their hotels have that arrangement.

Omg- read the f-ing OPs posts will you.
Bloody hell people on here are driving me mad typing idiotic replies when they haven’t read what the OP is saying 😡 Happens on most l threads but this is a particularly bad one.

watcherintherye · 08/02/2023 10:22

PI twin rooms are never two single beds. I’ve never come across one in many years of Premier Inn stays across the UK
From their website:

Our twin rooms are designed to be as flexible as possible – so they come in different formats.
Most feature a super-comfy double or kingsize bed plus a single sofa bed.
The rest have two double or kingsize beds.
To find out more, speak to your hotel.

soupmaker · 08/02/2023 10:25

Hi @MollyBunny154 Just coming back on to wish you all the best today and hope things go well with your boy at the hospital. You'll be absolutely exhausted so I hope you manage to ignore all the nonsense on here and that a PI member of staff sorts you out with a refund and proper apology.

We only ever had one not so good experience with a PI on return from a flight in the middle of the night. Was given a room for 3 when we'd clearly booked a room for 4 and I'd called ahead the week before to tell them we'd be arriving at 3am. Was sorted as they moved us straight away and night staff were absolutely fine. So sorry you didn't have a similar outcome.

FFS!

The Premier inn website actually states that some twin rooms might have single beds only. It is in the small print which someone has already cut and pasted above.

Read the thread or read the PI website and you would know. Might be better to check your facts before accusing the OP of lying.

WTF is wrong with all of these armchair detectives so determined to find a hole in the OP's post. Maybe, just maybe, she is telling the truth and the hotel has fucked up.

If you scroll down the page you read that on you will see a grey box hitch explains the asterisk after king size in your quote.

Clearly states *A small number of rooms have twin, double or single beds.
