Hotel expecting me to share a bed with one of my sons

MollyBunny154 · 08/02/2023 00:53

I have had to travel nearly 3 hours away from home to a specialist Childrens hospital as my youngest son is 11 and is being admitted very early in morning for day for tests.
My oldest son is 19 and has come with us as I don't like traveling on my own.

I booked to stay at premier Inn for 2 nights , paid for a family room, was assured it would have a double bed sofa bed and pull out bed so 3 beds.

Turned up and checked in tonight went to room and found they had given me a twin room with just 2 beds.

Went back to reception as thought they had perhaps given me wrong key. They said that was correct key and room and there was nothing they could do as hotel is fully booked. I was told I would have to share a bed with one of my son's

It was too late to find another hotel so reluctantly went back to room.

There is no way any one could share a bed with my youngest son, he moves around in his bed constantly all night.

I don't think it would be appropriate to share a bed with my oldest son.

I've had to give my sons the beds and I'm having to sleep on floor, using a coat as a blanket as don't even have any spare bedding.

Am I wrong think it's not right to have to share a bed with one of my son's.

What would you have done in this situation.
Am I right to be annoyed.

Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance

Problem is, the 19 year old is too old for "family room". A friend had a similar problem as room was for 2 adults and a child, but they were able to get a pop up zbed type thing out for the youngest. I hadn't realised any premier inn had rooms with single beds in!! They claim to only have doubles / sofa bed so that's a definite area for complaint too.

I would have just got the two boys to sleep in the double bed and I would have slept in the single. Otherwise I would have called for more bedding and slept in the bath! :-)

He was given two single beds as he has stated time and time again

gogohmm · 08/02/2023 08:41

It's happened to me too, travelodge though, also no spare bedding apparently. Yes I had the confirmation 2 adult, 2 children. They claimed the central booking system was to blame whereas central booking claimed the hotel must have given our room to a family checking in with a baby without double checking who else was still to check in (I checked in at 6pm) I did get free breakfast out of them, but they refused to refund locally because they said they couldn't Confused and central booking eventually gave us a voucher for £50 which I gave to my mother

We had this happen at a travel lodge (Birmingham) but luckily they gave us another room. We use travel lodge and premier inn a lot and we know the quality and service isn’t that great so we never know what we are going to get. Both my teens have ASD too and I often have to share with my 16 year old, I rarely get any sleep in these hotels but they are what they are (cheap and not great quality). I would complain and get some of your money back. A tip for the future….we always take an air bed with us now and a sleeping bag, just incase there’s not enough space for the 3 of us. Dd1 has got used to sleeping on one and will sleep anywhere.

They took the train. Carrying an air bed and a sleeping bag on a train just in case PI fuck up, might be a bit much.

It baffles me how parents won't sleep in the same bed as their own flesh and blood.

Yep, my sons also autistic nd fairly regularly gets in with me. I like it, it's the only time he wants to be that near me 🤣

OK, but in a single bed? The bedroom was a twin room, that means two singles. Even if they wanted to share there wouldn't have been the space.

No. The problem is OP booked a room to accommodate 3 people and was given two single beds.

ittakes2 · 08/02/2023 08:43

I hope your son's tests go ok. I think it was a bit of a red herring when you mentioned sharing a bed - the reality is there was not enough beds. ask for a refund.

How are people reading (from OPs very first post)

Turned up and checked in tonight went to room and found they had given me a twin room with just 2 beds.

as a double and a pull out🤦🏻‍♀️

Well I (originally) thought that, because I didn’t think it would be possible that someone working in hospitality would be as unhelpful as to suggest that two adult size people share a single bed, and the OP’s annoyance seemed to be coming more from a place of inappropriateness than from physical impracticality.

Plus, a double and a pull out bed is 2 beds and I’m fairly certain that it says on the premier inn website that some of their ‘twin’ rooms are actually a double bed and a pull out bed. A bit of a short straw for whoever gets the pull out bed, but still separate beds for 2 adults who don’t want to share. So it could have been a double bed and a pull out and still described as a twin room.

There are a lot of morons on the Internet.

There is a link at the bottom of each Original Post that says “See All” and with 1 click, you can quickly read all of the OP’s posts without having to scroll through lots of pages - therefore you can see ALL the information they’ve provided before you post and make yourself look like one of these morons.

Best of luck to the OP!

It baffles me how parents won't sleep in the same bed as their own flesh and blood. It's one bloody night. I went on holiday with my parents abroad and the hotel had messed up the booking, I (26y/o) ended up having to share a room with my parents for 2 nights. Suck it up and be an adult about it and then make sure you get a refund in the morning.

IT'S TWO SINGLE BEDS!!

RTFT ffs

Even if they wanted to share, there wouldn't be space for either two adults, or an adult and an 11 year old who moves about a lot to share a single bed together.

rockpoolingtogether · 08/02/2023 08:47

They are in the wrong. Regardless of bed sharing, there isn't enough sleeping space for three people!

MumMRM · 08/02/2023 08:49

ladyforallseasons · 08/02/2023 08:40

I KNOW, which is why I posted again, saying ignore my earlier post!

MumMRM · 08/02/2023 08:51

ClearMoth · 08/02/2023 07:58

What double?

For fucks sake.

Which is why I immediately posted a second message explaining I had got the bed situation wrong and to ignore my first post! AND WATCH YOU LANGUAGE WITH ME!!!! It is not necessary!

steppemum · 08/02/2023 08:52

This thread explains so much about society.

OP - 2 single beds, 3 people
posters - their own experience cannot imagine PI with 2 single beds so they refuse to believe what OP has written

This really is the sad state that we are in today that people cannot think outside of their own limited experience

Surely anyone can book a family room even if there is just 1 person? You book it and pay the price. I didn’t realise you had to fulfil criteria to get the room.

Lalliella · 08/02/2023 09:02

Fucking hell there’s a lot of stupid people on this thread.

OP HAS BEEN GIVEN A ROOM WITH 2 SINGLE BEDS. THERE ARE 3 PEOPLE. HOW IS THAT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND?

OP, I hope you managed to get some sleep, that PI refund in full, and that DS’s appointment goes well Flowers

onepieceoflollipop · 08/02/2023 09:06

@HappyHealthy23
I read earlier on the thread that someone got a refund via the website - looking back this wasn’t the OP but I thought it was, my mistake
However, from experience she will be able to get a refund, but that’s the least of her problems after the PI mistake.

AIBUYesSometimes · 08/02/2023 09:07

I'm more worried that the OP @MollyBunny154 can't travel for 3 hours without having to drag a 19 yr old autistic son with her.

Why can't you travel with your 11 year old without needing your son there?
Maybe you could think about addressing your issues around travelling and getting help from a counsellor?

Premier Inn expect the single sofa beds to be used by a child. They are not for 19 year olds.

The rooms that are family rooms are for 2 adults and a child. Or possibly 2 small children, one on the sofa bed and another on the pull out bed under it. The beds are double beds, with a sofa bed alongside.

You should have booked 2 rooms. One for you and your 11 year old and one for your 19 year old.

The family room is always a double, with a small sofa type bed alongside. There may be a pull out single bed under the sofa bed.

Children using a family room are supposed to be under 16.

BungleandGeorge · 08/02/2023 09:09

PI have messed up my booking before and given my family room to a couple, I expect that’s what happened. They can’t seriously expect you to share a single bed! If you’re in a city another option would be for them to find a nearby hotel with family rooms and pay for a taxi..

BadNomad · 08/02/2023 09:10

Yes. That's why she booked a family room.

Whenever we have had a family room it is a double with a single bed plus They then add a fold out bed between the 2 so effectively the room becomes one giant bed with 4 of us in a row. I never really thought about the criteria of how old people had to be as they are all full size beds.

BungleandGeorge · 08/02/2023 09:12

@AIBUYesSometimes has it not occurred to you that maybe the autistic 19 year can’t be left on their own at home?

keepcalm11 · 08/02/2023 09:13

Totally unacceptable from Premier Inn adding to an already stressful situation for the OP. I'd be complaining big style. Hope you son is ok

That's really unhelpful. You have no idea what care needs the 19 year old has, it's quite possible she had to take him with her
