Hotel expecting me to share a bed with one of my sons

MollyBunny154 · 08/02/2023 00:53

I have had to travel nearly 3 hours away from home to a specialist Childrens hospital as my youngest son is 11 and is being admitted very early in morning for day for tests.
My oldest son is 19 and has come with us as I don't like traveling on my own.

I booked to stay at premier Inn for 2 nights , paid for a family room, was assured it would have a double bed sofa bed and pull out bed so 3 beds.

Turned up and checked in tonight went to room and found they had given me a twin room with just 2 beds.

Went back to reception as thought they had perhaps given me wrong key. They said that was correct key and room and there was nothing they could do as hotel is fully booked. I was told I would have to share a bed with one of my son's

It was too late to find another hotel so reluctantly went back to room.

There is no way any one could share a bed with my youngest son, he moves around in his bed constantly all night.

I don't think it would be appropriate to share a bed with my oldest son.

I've had to give my sons the beds and I'm having to sleep on floor, using a coat as a blanket as don't even have any spare bedding.

Am I wrong think it's not right to have to share a bed with one of my son's.

What would you have done in this situation.
Am I right to be annoyed.

Any advice much appreciated
Thanks in advance

It's entirely believable that a Premier Inn in a big city (let's say London) would have more restricted space and more likely to be fully booked. However the staff's attitude towards their mistake and their refusal to provide additional bedding are inexcusable. Anything to do with the family themselves is totally irrelevant, as far as I can see.

The thread itself is a prime example of MN fuckwittery and should be nominated as a Classic.

I came on to say similar. This thread - and a number of the posters therein - perfectly demonstrate why MN is fucking bonkers at times.

FFS. It's just a bed.

A. I have never seen a premier inn with a single bed so I'm sure it was 2 doubles that the OP is complaining about.

B. I have a 17yo and a 14yo. I would share with either of them and they wouldn't find it that weird if needs must. Do you sit next to each other on the sofa? It's only weird if you make it weird.

Did you read the thread at all?

35965a · 08/02/2023 16:45

Some of the replies are nuts. Zero reading comprehension skills from so many people.

He's autistic to the point he'd have a meltdown on the floor.
That doesn't sound like a solution either.

And yet she said she took him because she doesn’t like travelling!

Well, had the premier inn told her when she booked AND confirmed by phone that there would be enough beds, that in fact there would be two singles, I doubt OP would have taken a third person. His autism has nothing to do with the problem.

Clearly not!

It's quite illuminating to see the number of posters claiming that they have never seen something so it simply can't exist. It explains a lot!

Ooh you’ve never seen two single beds in a PI? Oh shit, well that changes everything, it definitely isn’t possible then. Maybe you can email PI and tell them to correct their website and inform them that they don’t actually have any twin rooms with single beds.

Talkingfrog · 08/02/2023 17:38

Haven't read all the comments. Hope you manage to get a family room for tonight.

As far as I am aware premier inn won't refund under the sleep guarantee unless it was raised at the hotel. I would try to get names of those you spoke to about the issue to use on a complaint.

Not sure what the procedure would normally be about them logging complaints raised at the hotel, but there must be one ( otherwise how would they now whether you had complained on the day or not).

Make a note of the room number too- shouldn't be hard for them to check that the room isn't big enough for 3 beds.

I have been looking at a few premier inns lately. Never had an issue in the ones we have been in up to now. Would you sat which one it was. Might be one to avoid.

SheilaFentiman · 08/02/2023 17:52

OP, I wouldn’t say where the hotel is, it may end up in local press. No aspersions at Talkingfrog but it has happened a fair bit of late.

Manthide · 08/02/2023 20:29

I don't think 2 adults can sleep in a single bed unless they are in a relationship and even then they would have to get very close to each other. I'd have no problem top and tailing with my 19 year old son but not in a single bed! I'd move heaven and earth to fit in a fold up bed.

@MerryMarigold
Did you miss the OPs post where she says:
"It's a twin room with 2 single beds"?

SheilaFentiman · 08/02/2023 22:37

What IS top and tailing? How can it be done without someone having chilly toes?

Tangent, but I have always wondered.

Do you genuinely not know? Have you never ever shared a bed w someone sleeping with their head at the head of the bed and the other sleeping with their head at the foot? Put a pair of socks on or I dunno, don’t put your feet out the bottom of the duvet? How tall would you have to be for your feet to touch the bottom of a bed?! Most people also don’t sleep stock straight, their knees are usually bent!

SheilaFentiman · 08/02/2023 22:48

No, I haven’t! I’ve only shared a bed with partners, or a double with a friend at a distance. I’ve slept on floor otherwise.

If you have one duvet, how can you each have your face not covered and your toes covered?

A sheltered life! Who sleeps with the duvet over their face?

Sorry not covered. Quite easily? Do your feet reach anywhere near the bottom of your duvet?

SheilaFentiman · 08/02/2023 22:53

Yeah… but we have a really big duvet that hangs over the end of the bed 😀 I suppose you kind of curl together in the middle?

I feel I would be terrified of kicking my fellow sleeper in the face!

It’s not that complicated! You just lie in a bed normally. I can’t believe you have never topped and tailed

It also doesn’t tie in with the description of twin rooms.

How did your son get on @MollyBunny154? I hope that at least everything went well at the hospital x

I came on to say similar. This thread - and a number of the posters therein - perfectly demonstrate why MN is fucking bonkers at times.

MN is bonkers coz nearly every post on here is either a journalist or someone lying/heavily exaggarating a situation. You invest in a post and take the time to give advice then either the post is deleted or the OP never comes back. The 'no troll hunting' rule is fair enough but if we were to be told something IRL that didn't quite add up then we can and should challenge it but it seems we aren't allowed to do that on here. We have to take as gospel truth something that's totally implausible. I will just read a good book from now on. They've usually got better and more believable drama.

CraneBoysMysteries · 09/02/2023 06:59

@User4891 I think that's quite unfair actually. OP didn't post once and then disappear as some more goady posters do. She posted multiple times to explain the situation and reiterate what she had booked vs what she had.

Multiple posters then came on to say they've stayed in twin rooms in PI before with single beds (including myself). The website itself also says you may get a room with two single beds.

What's so hard to believe? Not sure why so many posters are frothing at the mouth to say this scenario is impossible or improbable.

OP said upfront she was travelling for a hospital appt with her son and then signed off again in the morning to say she was now going to this appt and would be concentrating on her son.

Some posters seem to want her to come back and stir up the drama again. I'm sure she'll return with an outcome from the hotel once her son is settled back home.

SillySausage81 · 09/02/2023 10:09

A. I have never seen a premier inn with a single bed so I'm sure it was 2 doubles that the OP is complaining about.

So just because you've never seen one, OP must be lying? Despite the fact that at least two people now have posted screenshots of Premier Inn's terms and conditions stating that some twin rooms have single beds? Oh, but YOU'RE the expert over and above the company itself.. I presume you've seen every room in every Premier Inn in the country, have you? 😂

SillySausage81 · 09/02/2023 10:09

AIBUYesSometimes · 08/02/2023 09:08

The family room is always a double, with a small sofa type bed alongside. There may be a pull out single bed under the sofa bed.

Children using a family room are supposed to be under 16.

Well that's completely by the by because the whole problem is she wasn't given the family room that she'd booked. SHE WAS GIVEN A ROOM WITH 2 SINGLE BEDS FOR 3 PEOPLE! 🙄

If that’s what you think then you’re definitely better off staying away and reading a book - because if you can’t possibly believe an OP, despite there being clear evidence that they’re telling the truth (in this case about a twin room), and believe nearly everyone is a journalist or a liar then you’re wasting your time on here.
