Best Cornish Harbours with walls for jumping off into the sea from

I'm obsessing about starting to plan our summer holiday. The highlight of any Cornish break for my DC is jumping off a harbour wall into the sea. We've been to

  • Charlestown
  • Mousehole
  • St Ives
  • Polruan

and through obsessive google maps usage I've always managed to pick a holiday location with harbour walls that are suitable!

I was wondering if anyone else has DC with similar views, and if they'd recommend any other locations?

Sennen Cove.

Mumof1andacat · 11/01/2023 11:11

Such a dangerous thing to allow your dc to do

Julen7 · 11/01/2023 11:12

Don’t do it it’s dangerous

StroppyTop · 11/01/2023 11:15

St Mawes at high tide

Wombats67 · 11/01/2023 11:18

Erm, I grew up with no H & S input at all but this is bonkers. Tombstoning is uber-stupid.

WildFlowerBees · 11/01/2023 11:21

Stupid idea.

Happygone · 11/01/2023 11:21

Surely no one would want their kids doing this? 😂

Whiskeypowers · 11/01/2023 11:22

One with a hospital a& e department very near
absolute madness

RagzRebooted · 11/01/2023 11:23

This is a thing?
I'd do it, I love water and I'm a bit silly but not something I'd encourage my DCs to do and they're teens!

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 11/01/2023 11:23

Pier jumping can be done reasonably safely if you know how to do it, the right tides and the seabed in your chosen location.
Charlestown are cracking down on it now but it's still popular.
Polkerris, near Fowey is a safe place, with a double height wall.
Gorran Haven?
I've seen people jumping a lot at Lamorna but am not that familar with it.

Andanotherone01 · 11/01/2023 11:23

Jesus. It's really dangerous. I was watching kids doing this in St Ives last summer, with my heart in my mouth.

TabithaTittlemouse · 11/01/2023 11:26

Porthleven and Boscastle although Porthleven is closer to treliske.

Jumping off a harbour wall (into deep water with no obstacles on the sea bed in a safe manner well clear of passing boats) is an exhilarating experience.
I let my children do it, I do it.
Like bouldering or tree climbing or other 'extreme' sports, it's a great way to learn how to assess risk and deal with adrenaline and peer pressure.

😂mumsnet oh how I love thee!

thanks for the helpful replies!

Kids do this in our seaside town. They unfortunately don’t survive. It’s so dangerous and irresponsible. Just don’t.

ColinAllOccupantsOfInterplanetaryCraft · 11/01/2023 11:33

They call it tombstoning for a reason, mate.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/01/2023 11:35

The RNLI don’t like dragging bodies out on the sea.

Julen7 · 11/01/2023 11:37

I live in Cornwall (albeit the north) and harbourmasters are testing their hair out every summer trying to stop this. It’s dangerous and irresponsible. Google it.

FrownedUpon · 11/01/2023 11:37

People have died or been paralysed doing this. It’s so stupid to encourage your DC to do it.

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/01/2023 11:38

Madness

sanityisamyth · 11/01/2023 11:38

It's not called Tombstoning for nothing ...

daisyjgrey · 11/01/2023 11:40

Tombstoning and hoofing yourself off a harbour wall that you know the depth and conditions of are wildly different.

What do you think we all do with our time in Devon and Cornwall in the summer as teens...?

OP Clovelly is a good one, although it's not Cornwall, it's just over the border in Devon.
