Going to Robin Hoods Bay again. Am so excited. I love it there.

Plus the cottage we're staying in is next to the sea/cliffs and has a little sun house at the top you can sit in and watch the waves. Nice open fire. Terrace with sea view, as have most rooms.

Dcs love it there too and Dp is beside himself. We don't live that far away tbh as are in the north but the thought of a whole week there, away from it all is blissful. It's like stepping back in time. I prefer it to going abroad. Ok so the weather isn't guaranteed but it's so steeped in history and just great Smile

I think the owners of the cottage may have to eject me it looks so cosy.

RHB for anyone who doesn't know it.

We'll travel outside of RHB too, go off to Whitby and places. Definitely visit Staithes.

RHB is so hilly that I get a work out as well as a holiday. I don't feel as guilty drinking ale as I burn off the calories Wink

Well jel OP, I went to Filey, just up the road, twice as a child and we were OBSESSED with Robin Hood's Bay.

Yes I think I'm a bit obsessed too. There's quite a lot to do round there tbh. Dcs just like pottering around so that's good. They're 12 and 15 so can wander safely. Gives me and dp a bit of free time Wink

I quite like Filey too Just. The beach is nice from what I remember? Been 3 years since I've been.

Dp's beyond excited bless him. He's so lovely Smile He works hard though so this break will do him the power of good. Being able to park up and go to the pubs.

We're off to Durham for a night next week, just dp and I. His favourite city so he's doubly excited.

What do your dcs like to potter with when you're there? We love Whitby and the cliff walk to RHB but what else is good there? Would need to be by public transport.

They like messing around on the beach, walking, reading, playing board games. We went on the ghost walk last time. There's a museum and the bus runs from RHB and there are buses to connect to other places in Whitby or the trains.They like going in http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/old-coastguard-station/ here.
It depends on your dcs tbh. Mine love their xbox and PC etc... but also love a nice quiet chilled out holiday. They'd rather go here than to a theme park. We've gone here in winter the last 2 years this time we're going Easter time.

Last time DS1 made some girlfriends and kept in touch via FB. Smile
DS2 played football on the beach with a huge group (family).

I went to Robin Hoods Bay on New Year's Day. There were loads of people there :) Was the first time I've been there and I loved it.

Routes from Whitby. As you can see that route goes to Grosmont wich links to Goathland and Pickering. They have steam trains there Smile http://www.nymr.co.uk/ Trains from there.
Apparently you can get a bus to here?

We go there regularly (DH brought up in Whitby). You must visit Falling Foss, amazing waterfall in the woods with a lovely cafe with gardens right by the top of the waterfall. Also the Magpie Cafe on Whitby West Cliff - don't be put off by the queue to the door - it moves very quickly.

You're welcome Remus, are you local? I'm on the durham coast.

Fossley yes I fancy going to Falling Foss as haven't been before. The Magpie and its long queues I know them well. Have you been to Green's? It's lush and surprisingly family friendly for a posh place. I've taken dss from a very young age. They do small portions for dcs.

I know it's awful Sad Houses have been destroyed too. You see corrosion everywhere now. Very scary.

Curious, haven't been to Green's. Am I right in thinking it's just on the East side of the bridge, opposite the toy shop? We'll give it a whirl on the strength of your recommendation.

In fact, am going to slope off and book a few days up there...

I'm booking in for an art class in RHB. I paint anyway and will love it. It's £12 for a class but materials are included.

Ooooh I'm on another thread about this area - can you post a link to where you're staying as I'm looking for somewhere by the sea or a week in August - have found a possibility in Crasters but am not 100% sure. Or pm me?!

We went to Whitby for the first time last year and loved it but didn't get to go to robin hood's bay - it's on the list for this one round.
