Plus the cottage we're staying in is next to the sea/cliffs and has a little sun house at the top you can sit in and watch the waves. Nice open fire. Terrace with sea view, as have most rooms.

Dcs love it there too and Dp is beside himself. We don't live that far away tbh as are in the north but the thought of a whole week there, away from it all is blissful. It's like stepping back in time. I prefer it to going abroad. Ok so the weather isn't guaranteed but it's so steeped in history and just great

We'll travel outside of RHB too, go off to Whitby and places. Definitely visit Staithes.

RHB is so hilly that I get a work out as well as a holiday. I don't feel as guilty drinking ale as I burn off the calories

Sounds lovely Jammy. It's great for little ones. Mine are older and love it too. I think it may be because they were weaned on NT and English heritage from babies. DS2 was in a castle at 6 days old (in sling). They both love visiting them still now.

Meant to say I think that's why they like old historic places. They'd shun a theme park in favour of RHB and suchlike.

Am trying to talk dp into going for Christmas this year, too. It'd have to be somewhere that takes dogs though.

There were people the appeared to regularly head there for Christmas, looking through the guest book. I bet it looks fantastic with snow over the rooftops, though getting up that hill would be interesting!

Talking of which it came down heavy here. Dp and I were out shopping and it was tricky driving home.

Yep, we've had it too, enough for a nice bit of snowman building but the pavements are a wee bit slippery now.

Not sure where we're going to go this year for our hols - might venture as far a Scotland, maybe on the coast somewhere as DH is paranoid about the midges.

Oh midges are bad aren't they? We go camping so have to suffer them a lot. The avon spray is about the only thing that seems to work?

I;ve heard about the moisturiser working but didn't know there's a spray. Is that the skin so soft range too?

The distant from Cornwall to Whitby is being tested now my Grandad died in Whitby yesterday and I am not going to be able to make the funeral next week
