Going to Robin Hoods Bay again. Am so excited. I love it there.

Plus the cottage we're staying in is next to the sea/cliffs and has a little sun house at the top you can sit in and watch the waves. Nice open fire. Terrace with sea view, as have most rooms.

Dcs love it there too and Dp is beside himself. We don't live that far away tbh as are in the north but the thought of a whole week there, away from it all is blissful. It's like stepping back in time. I prefer it to going abroad. Ok so the weather isn't guaranteed but it's so steeped in history and just great

RHB for anyone who doesn't know it.

We'll travel outside of RHB too, go off to Whitby and places. Definitely visit Staithes.

RHB is so hilly that I get a work out as well as a holiday. I don't feel as guilty drinking ale as I burn off the calories

Have PMed you DD. Northumberland's lovely too, great sand dunes and lots of lovely old places to visit, plus seahouses and Farne Islands. Have you been to Northumberland?

Thanks for the info . No we've never ventured as far North as Northumberland! Whitby's the furthest North we've been so far - will hopefully be booking in Robin Hood's Bay in August so can do day trips - not sure how far North we'll get though in a day - will need to do some more googling..!

Can't wait to get away and be by the sea. We used to go to North Devon fairly regularly but dp and ds1 have decided they don't like travelling too far in the car - we're in Manchester so heading over to Whitby/RHB feels much easier

Oh I'd love to go to Devon or Cornwall. My auntie lives in Cornwall so may go one day? It's so far though.
I live next to the sea and there's some nice beaches here. Ours isn't that great as it's next to the old coal pit. Some strange colours on the rocks I love walking the dog along the clifftops though.

I love North Yorkshire. Holidayed there last year (visited RHB) and probably will again this year.

Usual thing is they get plenty in though, always busy. I bet rates are high for them. We'll have some no doubt as there for a week. Plus dp can't wait for them Nothing like eating fish and chips at the seaside.

If you are in Whitby I heartily recommend Humble Pie n Mash.
THE finest pie and mash I have ever eaten. My brother loves it so much he has been known to drive over (we're near Manchester) just for that!

I just spent Christmas in Robin Hood's Bay with my DDs and some other families.

There's a lovely chip shop (takeaway only) on Church Street. It's quite a long way along the road, past Humble Pie and just before the tiny cottages on the other side of the road. Have forgotten what it's called but it's really good and the portions are huge. Good tartare sauce too.

And the fishcakes at The Magpie are gorgeous.

We live in Cornwall and my grandparents are in Whitby. It is a long way but well worth it. Both fab places. Love RHB, Scarborough, York..... I could go on. We are hoping to come up at Easter

Oh I am jealous - my Godmother had a cottage in RHB that my patents and grandparents used to take me on holiday to. Then me, my brother and our friends used to go. Then dh and I used to go and finally I was able to take my children . Sadly she doesn't have it any more as I loved going there - the cottage was over 4 floors with one room on each floor. We slept in the attic and listened to the seagulls on the roof.

Yes thanks we love the Humble pie and mash, did you know dogs are allowed in there too? Makes a nice change I've been to Whitby lots as don't live that far, around 47 miles.

Love RHB and Whitby. Have you walked through Mulgrave Woods at Sandsend? Very, very lovely.

Have you been to the Whitby Wizard? It's a tiny hands on science experiments place for kids, and if you get the guy talking who owns it he will tell you all about his arctic exploration.

When I say it is tiny, there is only one room but he has a lot of stuff in there. My kids love it, we should go there again thinking about it!

Durham is gorgeous - can't wait to go back there.

People are shocked I prefer it to abroad. I like the sun as much as anyone but prefer history tbh.

We had a week there the summer before last and stayed in the town itself at the bottom of the hill, and had a great time! We loved the beach with the sand and rock pools and fossils (something to keep all of us happy) and the town itself is lovely. Loved trips into Whitby too.

We've not been abroad in about 5 years. While the boys are small we figured all we need is a nice beach and a few ruined castles to run round, plus long journeys are really quite stressful.

We might venture to France or Germany next year but mainly as we have friends out there. Still plenty of bits of the UK we've never visited!
