What normal question do you hate being asked?

Maybe not a normal question but to me it's anything to do with my first relationship. It's come up many times in different ways.

I was on a Hen do and we were playing games and it was 'whoever lost their virginity the latest has to take a shot'

It was me, I was 19 and it wasn't consensual. It was an abusive relationship. So I don't know whether to count that or the sleazy boyfriend I had right after aged 20.

It comes up very occasionally 'have you ever dated a scotsman?" Yes, my abuser but I can't say that so I just lied and said no.

"How old were you when you had your first relationship?" again the dreaded question.

I asked a lady who was telling me about her son the other day how many kids she had. She told me that just one as her other had died.

My children have light-olive skin and tan easily, and I’m very pale. People frequently ask if they take after my husband?
I’m never sure how to answer, since I conceived my kids via donor and I don’t have a husband.

DorsetMermaid · Yesterday 20:06

Don't you get bored?

I retired because I had so many other things I wanted to do other than work.
My days are packed with a million things to the extent that I get up earlier now then when I went to work in order to fit it all in.

I hate being asked 10 times a day ‘what part of America are you from’.

So ignorant. So I say Toronto and watch them figure it out and look uncomfortable.

Just say ‘I detect an accent where is it from’.

I hate being asked anything about myself. If any one asks me something I usually don't answer and deflect by asking the other person something about themselves and the vast majority of people are only too happy to take the opportunity to talk about themselves. Unlike me!

Boodahh · Yesterday 20:13

Like a previous poster, What did you do at the weekend.?

People ask that and my mind goes blank. I often cannot remember what I did. And then I feel I should have 'sold' my weekend more, as others have not done much but managed to make a story of it.

My job, . I don't care if ask that nowadays. I find people, even those I know well don't seem to take on board my job, so I could say anything really.

EmiliaRuusuvuori · Yesterday 20:13

Wouldn't you have liked a daughter ?
I only have sons and actually did have a stillborn daughter.
It feels an incredibly personal question to ask someone you don't really know.

JacknDiane · Yesterday 20:35

Are you doing anything tonight?

No i never go out

timple · Yesterday 20:37

I also hate what are your hobbies? I feel reading is really boring

Where you going on holiday this year?
Oh not this year, where did you go last year?
Oh, why not? Do you never go away?
(lots of reasons that are none of your business)

TheyGrewUp · Yesterday 20:44

Ooh what an unusual name, where's that from. My maiden name was forrin. I perfected a confused look "my father of course"

Really pissed people off.

Why on earth? Are you in witness protection? I mean, I assume they’re not asking for your PIN or your favourite sexual position?

SpottyAlpaca · Yesterday 20:52

I dislike being asked about my holiday plans, because I go away a lot. My mortgage is paid off & i have no dependents so I hsve a fair bit of disposable income. So going away is my hobby.

There’s no way of answering truthfully without getting a lot of ‘what, again! You’ve only just got back’ Or ‘where to this time? responses. And the last thing I would ever want to do is to come across as boastful or rubbing the noses of others who can’t afford 5 or more holidays a year. So I try be as non-committal as possible without technicallly lying.

How are you?

Yes, this or any version of it, when you're not. Seems like a point blank lie to say yes if the person knows you're ill, but in most cases, you don't want to talk about it-and nor do they!
My friend's an English teacher and says to reply "I'm good" when asked how you are, as it's not the same as "I'm well", because it just means you're a good person, but most people won't challenge it.

Parker231 · Yesterday 21:02

“You’re not English are you?”

You’ve heard my accent, it’s pretty obvious I’m not from the UK!

Because they don't want to talk about themselves. The clue is often in what posters write.

My maiden name is forrin but my first name is pretty international. I love the not so subtle confusion when someone calls my married name and I stand up!

It is also just small talk. The vast majority of people asking things like that are not interested at all in the answer. It is just filler.
I don't ask people like what they do as a job or what they got up to on the weekend if I don't know them that well.. because I do not actually give a shit, and it seems insincere to get that info out of them.

I hate being asked "why did you not have children?"
And
"What do you do for a living?"
I'm a cleaner and always feel "less than" when telling people.

No ,no,no..nothing wrong with being a cleaner.
My DW has been a cleaner for 42yrs.
It's a bloody hard job

gamerchick · Yesterday 21:23

Yeah it's how many kids do you have for me. Especially by a new hairdresser. The last time I said I had 3 but 1 died, it bummed her out and she lost focus on what she was doing. I felt fear for my locks.

Now I just lie.
