VB's dress on Mrs Burnham - horrible

TheBlueKoala · 20/07/2026 19:42

I'm not a fashion expert and I really don't care much for it but this was the most horrible dress I have ever seen. Even on a coathangar bodytype like VB herself it wouldn't look good but on an average body it's just hideous. That's 850 £ unwisely spent. She could and should have gotten a dress from M&S for 50£ and actually looked good.

bafta16 · 21/07/2026 20:54

VB herself has describes her dresses in terms of freedom

What in Gods name does that mean?

Freedom to snack on cod?

It’s fine t9 discuss her clothes, not rip apart her body.

shes a high earning woman, they are multi millionaires, she doesn’t need to dress in markies clothes and pretend she’s one of the masses, she isn’t , they are a very wealthy couple, it would be very trite of her to wear a cheap dress to make people happy

personally I thought she looked lovely. Appropriate to the occasion and weather, I don’t subscribe to the view women have to dress ti flatter their bodies, I subscribe to the view women should do that if they please, and wear what they please and other women shouldn’t see it as an opportunity to attack them.

whats curious is the posters doing it, the dresses posted are universally worse.

Who are multi millionaires?

My next door neighbours, who do you think. Andy burnham and his wife, they are worth 2.5 million.

Quite. House development in Manchester is quite the money spinner.

Oh ok. While it's technically correct I don't really consider that multi. Many people in the SE and London can be classed as that due to property and pensions. No need to be so rude.

Pot meet kettle. You're the rudest poster on this thread.

I’ve just realised which poster you are and don’t fancy playing chess with a pigeon again, so you have fun 🙄

the very definition of multi is more than one, having a different definition of the word is rather unusual,

and he doesn’t live in London. Didn’t you hear, he is from the north,,and is in Manchester, was there yesterday basically setting up a number ten in the north,

Well just make sure you wear your Spanx or WE'LL ALL NOTICE!

Yes, I was thinking this about wives having to take a day off to wave at everyone and made a mental note to never let DH seize the reins so I have to turn up as the appendage.

Margaret Thatcher's and Theresa May's husbands went to the palace and on official events they would have just been in bland suits so camouflaged nobody cared what they wore.

The Times and Elle both now have articles about The Dress etc.

The blue VB dress is paired with Office shoes.

On the previous Friday, when AB was sworn in as Labour leader, she wore a mint green M&S two piece (that looked like a dress but wasn't) and cost £75.

The Times fashion ed says, incidentally, that she thinks PMs and wives should get a clothing allowance. But maybe that is a whole new thread.

Is that a Victoria Beckham dress on Marie-France van Heel? Good for her

If the new PM’s wife has splurged on a designer frock, I’m pleased. The images go round the world

Yes I know that. It's just that so many people as I said fall into that bracket that I tend to not think of it as outlandish wealth.

As I said it's my interpretation of it 🤷‍♀️ . So many multi millionaires. Yeah I hear of the ridiculous claptrap coming out of his mouth.

They've also commented on his super long shirt cuffs!

I actually thought they looked borderline too short.

That's a nice photo of her and makes me think it is just mean to be commenting on the way she looked: it's a perfectly nice dress that was perfectly appropriate in terms of not being too short, too slitty, too low cut - or any of the things a PM's wife shouldn't do on that occasion. It had a hint of formality to say the occasion was more than everyday.

Goodness me woman bought a dress now she is supporting some sort of "child exploitation " cult is what you are really saying @sillsimcard I dont understand how you got from Victoria Beckham has a clothing brand to tyson fury's child!

Blueyblueyblue · 20/07/2026 20:02

I was struck by how unflattering that dress was.

So was I.
I like the colour and think it suits her but the sizing and shape was very unflattering.
Surprising someone didn’t say something to her or she didn’t ask someone their opinion. Or perhaps she did and they said it was fine.

I always check with dh and my girls if I have to dress for an occasion. They’ll tell me straight 😂

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 22/07/2026 13:21

I just saw another (normal, not deliberately unflattering for rage bait) photo of her in that dress and she looks absolutely fine.

It's not catwalk level perfection but there really isn't anything about her appearance that warrants all this negativity.

It's pretty obvious the bitter, nasty little arseholes critiquing the look in this thread just hate Labour and/or Victoria Beckham.

LoyalMintOtter · 22/07/2026 13:26

@Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice it is a depressingly predicatable thread from all the labour/VB/ Andy Burnham haters and people who just hate women.

VoteForCountBinface · 22/07/2026 15:32

@Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice ,she looks fine, it's the dress that looks awful.
It might look ok on a very slender woman with a model's proportions.

Edited

I don’t support Labour and have defended her. Let’s face it very few support Labour any more so it can’t be that.so I don’t think this is about Labour, I think if she’d been a Tory wife or a reform wife she’d get the same,

I think it’s women who attack other women to make themselves feel superior. I mean look at the dress recommendations, hardly stylish posters who are doing it the op being one of the worst, and I doubt many are slender themselves who are slagging off her body.

snd the Victoria Beckham thing is because of cost and she dresses slim women.

Cheeseandolivesplease · 22/07/2026 16:11

@ladygindiva I like Ms van de Heel already; clearly a strong, successful and independent woman in her own right.
And I agree with you - I can't imagine her giving a toss what other women think about her dress sense 💪
