AIBU to feel gutted after seven weeks of silence from husband?

Long story short.
Had argument with husband now silence and no communication for 7 weeks other than me questioning him ( via text) about female he liked/ ❤️ photo on Facebook.

He said it’s childhood friend’s sister who also was like a sister to him.
Not heard of her in 18 years.

Also, he deleted me off social media.

AIBU to be gutted, disappointed and disheartened?

But it sounds as if you haven’t spoken to him, either, except to go on and on about something as petty as him liking a Facebook post by an old friend. Have I misunderstood? Apologies if I’ve got it wrong but if I’ve got it right you’re as bad as he is, aren’t you?

OP says she tried and he won’t engage. And she only has his word that this is an ‘old friend’. The ‘friend’ has appeared on FB after 18 years with no contact, and her DH has now deleted OP from his social media. Add to that, no communication and living separately in their home - seemingly at his behest. I’d say it’s pretty clear what’s going on, and OP needs to get her ducks in a row.

He’s creating an atmosphere and this is affecting not just you but your kids as well.

he obviously is up to or wanting more with this woman and he trying to make you feel like you are in the wrong.

My ex dh and father to my 3 dc used to not speak to me for months at a time. I eventually divorced him but I should have done it sooner.

There are lots of examples on this thread of people (including me) who have experienced similar from a spouse or parent.

It doesn't matter what the history is. Weaponised silence - seven weeks of it! - is not acceptable.

Get rid

OP says she tried, but not what she tried talking about. In her original post she said "no communication for 7 weeks other than me questioning him ( via text) about female he liked/ ❤️ photo on Facebook".

As I said, I may have got it completely wrong, and if so I apologise, but it sounded to me like she was just going on and on about this old friend (who may or may not just be an old friend of his sister's, as he said) and he got fed up and was refusing to respond any more.

OP, please can you clarify? Have you been addressing normal everyday remarks to him on other subjects, and he’s just refusing to speak to you at all? If so, of course that is dreadful.

You said you have a 12 year old ? This is extremely unfair on them at a sensitive period in their life. He’s the abusive one but you need to take action. This can’t go on

Edited

Hi Snufkin88! The OP/JustPlottingAlong - says they have 2 nearly grown children & one 2yr old child together. And, yes I agree it will definitely be affecting their children with their father not talking to their mum sadly - the atmosphere would be tense with no harmony. Looks to me that her husband thinks he can do what he likes with no set boundaries (posting a like not a heart emoticon is more appropriate) & so he isn't considering his wife's feelings/understanding that the OP@Justplottinglaong is upset. Take care; Snufkin & JPA & All from, Kiwi Grandma😘

What was the argument about, how did it start.

EstherGreenwood63 · 18/07/2026 10:28

Please take notice of what many pp have said. Stonewalling is abuse. You would probably be MUCH happier leaving this man. He is abusing you. Take care and tell people. 💐

Nothavingagoodvalentinesday · 18/07/2026 14:49

Make preparations for leaving. See a solicitor and divorce him on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour. This is not acceptable OP. Unfortunately the marriage is over.

MissMoneyFairy · 18/07/2026 17:59

You don't need a reason or grounds to divorce now, I'd start looking st a life without him and let the courts decide on the children, house, maintenance, finances. You're living separately anyway so may as well make it formal.

Tried to but there’s no engagement

Send him a divorce letter through a solicitor
