AIBU to feel gutted after seven weeks of silence from husband?

Justplottinglaong · 17/07/2026 16:52

Long story short.
Had argument with husband now silence and no communication for 7 weeks other than me questioning him ( via text) about female he liked/ ❤️ photo on Facebook.

He said it’s childhood friend’s sister who also was like a sister to him.
Not heard of her in 18 years.

Also, he deleted me off social media.

AIBU to be gutted, disappointed and disheartened?

You need to get legal advice. 7 weeks is ridiculous and there’s really no going back from this. Wishing you luck OP.

faeriesandelves · 18/07/2026 06:58

Sounds exactly like my ex husband. This is emotional abuse. Start divorce proceedings. Take care of yourself.

Pipsquiggle · 18/07/2026 07:13

Even the most huge drip feed would not justify 7 weeks of silence.
He's an adult, he needs to act like it.
It sounds like the marriage is over. You both need to constructively communicate to discuss living arrangements and childcare.

ToThePoint2026 · 18/07/2026 07:31

I smell a this isn't as simple as its made to sound. If you can take umbridge at a like on a picture I suspect there's been accusations etc. not sure why you find it a problem I couldn't care less what my dh likes it's me he loves...I guarantee there's 2 sides here

Blueuggboots · 18/07/2026 07:37

My mum put up with this shit for 46 years and finally left him when she was 70.
what a fucking waste of a life!

do not put up with this psychological abuse any longer.

purplepuffa · 18/07/2026 07:42

How are you doing with your 2 year old? Is your husband engaging with him/ her at all? Or is the toddler just in your part of the house and not seeing your husband?

Do you have two kitchens/ bathrooms/ living rooms and if not aren't you seeing him constantly anyway?

Sorry just trying to understand the set up.

It is abusive for your husband to give you silent treatment for 7 weeks.

Agree with PP that you need to think about leaving.

bettyrubble99 · 18/07/2026 07:48

I am so thankful my mum raised me to take absolutely no shit off anyone who likes to act a fantastic fool - especially entitled men.
My first call would be to get him removed from the home for a day or so on the grounds of mental / psychological abuse and forcing you & a 2yr to live upstairs.
Then bag packed (yours or his whatever works best) and one leaves for a short while to start divorce proceedings. No texting. To calling. No communication like he wants.

The last thing i would do is beg for this over grown baby to talk / converse with me. He would never utter a word again for all i care.
Sending you the strength to do it OP 💐💐💐

Snufkin88 · 18/07/2026 07:52

You said you have a 12 year old ? This is extremely unfair on them at a sensitive period in their life. He’s the abusive one but you need to take action. This can’t go on

You haven’t spoken in weeks and this is what you messaged him about? Seriously?!

What was the original argument about? And has he ever done this before?

Yes I’m wondering what the OP isn’t saying and how often she exhibits controlling behaviour. Strange.

TwilightSkies · 18/07/2026 07:54

He hates you. You need to make plans to leave.

AutumnLover1990 · 18/07/2026 07:56

Surprised you've waited 7 weeks. Throw his stuff out and tell him to come back when he's grown up and not behaving like a sulking toddler 😔

TheYorkshirePudding · 18/07/2026 08:09

LTB. It’s a form of punishment. Best to discuss disagreements and make up to be able to move on. Most people are taught this as children. He appears to think this doesn’t apply to him. Does he think you’ll be there for him and it won’t need discussing when he finally decides to come around? Has he sulked before?

Sounds like he’s no longer your husband, OP. In fact we can probably guess where he’s been for 7 weeks. LTB and 🦆 🦆 🦆

Twobigbabies · 18/07/2026 08:15

You are being unreasonable to feel 'gutted and disappointed'. You should have got angry, kicked him out and started moving towards permanent separation weeks ago! A few hours of this rubbish and I would be telling my DH to leave the house and come back when he'd grown up or not at all. I'm guessing this isn't the first time and he's ground You down to a shadow of yourself through years of abuse? I wouldn't be fixated on who he likes or doesn't like on facebook. His behaviour is unforgiveable. Haven't your children commented?

Frillysweetpea · 18/07/2026 08:19

I don't think @Justplottinglaong is coming back.....

CorvusNoir · 18/07/2026 08:20

I remember my father would pull this shit with my mother. For me as a child it was a pretty miserable house to live in. It would go on for weeks.

This kind of behaviour shows a level of contempt that there's rarely any coming back from. It's designed to punish you.

Time to re-assess your life.

TheRobotsAreComing · 18/07/2026 08:29

He's left the marriage, he just hasn't let you know. Scummy 'man'

TheSquareMile · 18/07/2026 08:46

OP, make an appointment to see a solicitor; you can't continue like this.

Rosiemate · 18/07/2026 08:59

But it sounds as if you haven’t spoken to him, either, except to go on and on about something as petty as him liking a Facebook post by an old friend. Have I misunderstood? Apologies if I’ve got it wrong but if I’ve got it right you’re as bad as he is, aren’t you?

Nofeckingway · 18/07/2026 09:05

How awful for you and the other people in the house . Everyone here has told you to end this relationship. How dare he treat you like this in front of your family . What do they say about it. He is also abusing them in their home .

He needs to take his sulky probably cheating arse out of that house .

Oh this is so sad to read. Life is too short for this.

Depends what’s come before that doesn’t it ? OP may have good reason to suspect, and a seven week silence following on from that seems to suggest something to hide.

Jollyhockeystickss · 18/07/2026 09:14

Happy days then!! Reasons to be single 357, he obviously doesnt want to be with you so leave him to it, just stop doing anything for him, dont do his washing or cook for him and be out the house as much as possible, but in reality you know you need to leave him

ThreadGuardDog · 18/07/2026 09:16

Justplottinglaong · 17/07/2026 17:02

Yes, living together, but the past weeks he lives downstairs and I’m upstairs.
we have two almost adults kids and 1 2yo.

Oh OP you need to end this. Seven weeks without engaging and essentially living separate lives in the same house is a sign you have reached an impasse. If he won’t discuss things rationally then it’s only natural to assume he’s hiding something. I’d be looking for legal advice and serving divorce papers.

My first thought. I expect there is a long history behind this at the very least and this is the final straw, even if it’s all on the husbands side (which I doubt).
