AIBU to feel gutted after seven weeks of silence from husband?

Long story short.
Had argument with husband now silence and no communication for 7 weeks other than me questioning him ( via text) about female he liked/ ❤️ photo on Facebook.

He said it’s childhood friend’s sister who also was like a sister to him.
Not heard of her in 18 years.

Also, he deleted me off social media.

AIBU to be gutted, disappointed and disheartened?

Surely this counts as a form of torture. How absolutely horrible, I cannot imagine someone doing this to me. I would burst with rage. It sounds like it's having it's intended affect on you, please try not to beg him. It must be bewildering, belittling and make you question your sanity and I very much doubt it is going to make you leave him so just try to do nice things for yourself and seriously, don't worey about the social media stuff. If she is a romance, you are well rid, if she's a friend, no matter.

Issue a divorce petition and he will have to communicate with your lawyer.

PashaMinaMio · 17/07/2026 18:03

Many years ago I was told by a solicitor that this is classed as “unreasonable behavior.”

These days you don’t need a reason to divorce from this dreadful man so it’s time to grasp the nettle.

What you can do is cease doing his washing, cooking for him or doing anything to help him function. If you’re not good enough to speak to you’re not good enough to help his day to day life.

He’s treating you like a door mat. You might as well walk out metaphorically or actually.

istherereallytimeforallthat · 17/07/2026 18:13

Is he completely blanking you in front of the children?

Itiswhysofew · 17/07/2026 18:25

You can't go on like this, you'll become ill. What he's doing is really cruel. Who does he think he is!

Is there a way for you all to leave him or get him out?

THisbackwithavengeance · 17/07/2026 18:29

TFImBackIn · 17/07/2026 17:55

I reckon he's up to no good and can't justify his behaviour, so he's ignoring you in the hope you'll think it's all your fault and will apologise to him.

100% this. The ignoring is his way of getting you to shut up and stay shut up out of fear it’ll happen again.

HereWeGo1234 · 17/07/2026 18:30

He is stonewalling you in the hope that you will feel guilty and sheepishly suggest that you both put this behind you and move on. His exaggerated behaviour is done so that you will feel somehow in the wrong. You are not in the wrong.

I can’t help but wonder if it’s infatuation with this woman on his part or has something happened between them.Have you any way of finding out if they have met up?

There must be a reason why he has completely overreacted - guilt or embarrassment? If it were embarrassment, I think he would be talking to you by now.

I would message him and tell him he has until tomorrow evening to discuss this with you like two adults. If he doesn’t respond or agree, sorry but I think I’d find a solicitor.

LOS2025 · 17/07/2026 18:34

This is abuse. Don’t try to talk to him about it and start getting your Ducks in a row instead.

If he has carried on the ignoring to 7 weeks he is likely to be very hostile on separation you need to ensure you have everything you need before you raise the potential of a divorce.

An important thing to do is go and seek legal advice from a solicitor before and also seek support from your local women’s aid service.

Keep your cards very close to your chest if you have anything important you don’t want to go missing or will need move it to a safe place outside of your home maybe a friends house or parents.

Finally he is a Tw#T. You need to prioritise protecting yourself financially and emotionally for the sake of you and the kids x

HarryBlackberry1 · 17/07/2026 18:39

As someone who used to suffer the silent treatment from ex husband, I advise you to leave him if you can afford to. It's a thoroughly miserable way to live and is abuse. Plain and simple. Please get out if you can. Your kids will be picking up on this and it will be impacting them, even if they are adults. I hate this form of abuse. I still remember the anxiety and unhappiness it caused me, even thoughwe split up 12 years ago.

Pinkissmart · 17/07/2026 18:43

YABU to stay with him

malefields · 17/07/2026 18:54

7 weeks is far too long for a disagreement. That seems permanent.

researchers3 · 17/07/2026 18:56

malloryknox123 · 17/07/2026 16:55

You haven’t spoken to your husband for seven weeks?

No, he hasn't spoken to her!

Op, this extremely cruel and abusive behaviour. I'd say your marriage is over - or should be.

Mischance · 17/07/2026 18:57

Do you do anything for him? - shop? laundry? clean house? drop your knickers? cook?

Just stop.

He won't like it - and then you can leave him be and wave goodbye ...

husbandcallsmepickle · 17/07/2026 18:59

What on earth was the argument about?

arethereanyleftatall · 17/07/2026 19:01

I’m not understanding why you would want to stay in this relationship

spotddog · 17/07/2026 19:16

@LOS2025 100%. Excuse caps but, PLEASE READ THIS ADVICE.

Wishing you a happier and more respected future.

JLou08 · 17/07/2026 19:36

It's over. He's too much of a coward to come out and say it so is playing stupid games instead. Sorry you're going through this. Speak to a solicitor and get the ball rolling. Don't let him keep you in limbo like this any longer.

Walker1178 · 17/07/2026 19:56

Justplottinglaong · 17/07/2026 16:57

Tried to but there’s no engagement

Then you give him two options: either he acts like a respectable adult and starts communicating properly with you or he can speak to your legal representative. The abuse ends now.

Yep.

purplecheesecat · 17/07/2026 20:02

This is abusive behaviour and grounds for a divorce

MelodyMalone · 17/07/2026 20:07

My stepfather was like this. No communication at all for weeks or even months, because something, we didn't necessarily know what, had annoyed him at some point.

It is abusive.

BurntBroccoli · 17/07/2026 20:09

Honestly this is so cruel of him. My EX used to do this too and it’s so childish.

Have you actually seen him? Live in the same house?

Changeusernames · 17/07/2026 20:16

I’m so sorry you are going through this. It is
domestic abuse

Not speaking to someone for 7 weeks is abusive.

You should 100% divorce him.

EvieBB · 17/07/2026 20:24

Mom2K · 17/07/2026 16:58

LTB.

I don't say that flippantly. Stonewalling is emotional abuse. Find your anger and leave, you do not deserve this.

This.
He's showing you he's an abusive cunt. Believe him
